And happy Ostara to all those who celebrate. Light a big fire, and praise the Sun for the return of the light.

Thank you, my friend ~ I have to say, as much as I enjoy the "all-in" games when playing solitaire, the base game remains exceptionally enjoyable, when playing with others or a quick 90-min game in solo mode. Between studying and house chores, I'm playing another one today with Harvey, Jenny, Caroyln, and Darrell vs. Yig .

Update (a/o 3/24): The Investigator team won! Yig's Doom Track stalled at "7" and the Terror Track rose to "4" before we sealed the final Gate .

I've played every day since last Friday night...currently on my third game with all-girl Investigator team ( Gloria , Amanda , Kate , and Mandy ) vs. Hastur . While I've thinned the Monster Cup of approximately 50 monsters (including Mask monsters), the base game remains exciting and challenging . To the base game, I've retained all of the (small) Investigator , Other World , and Arkham Encounter cards. Additionally, I use both the Relationship and Personal Story cards.

It's like falling in love all over again.

The All-Girl Investigator team ( Gloria , Amanda , Kate , and Mandy ) vs. Hastur did remarkably well ~ despite Amanda and Gloria having a Curse during the game, and both Kate ( Heart Damage ) and Amanda ( Concussion ) suffereing Injuries , they closed the final Gate through Mandy's Personal Story !

The Relationship cards proved quite effectively, as well, especially the one shared between Gloria and Mandy which allows one to earn a Clue token if they're in the same location and they both possess 2 Clue tokens. It's great to use as you share a location one turn, and during Upkeep of the next turn before you face the horrors around the city. In the end, the interpid team possessed six Gate trophies and more than a dozen Monster trophies, garnering 20 points for the game!

Nice that you passed Mandy's PS! It's always sweet when it happens!

The current game pitted Bob , Vincent , Mike , and Pete against Nyarlahotep .

Things were going well for the boys, especially since Vincent had both Intervene and Feeding the Mind Spells ...assisting Mike in the streets kept them clear for the entire game, and helped Mike pass his PS . Unfortunately, despite sealing a pair of Gates and stripping one Doom Token from the Doom Track due to an Elder Sign and another one from a Unique Item , the dreaded Mythos , " No One Can Help You Now " appeared followed by the sixth and seventh Gates in quick succession.

In the end, our boys managed to defeat Nyarlahotep in Final Battle , but they mourned the loss of their dear friend, Vincent .

The only thing to mourn in Vincent's departure is that is not a permanent condition: in the next game he'll be available again. Ugh.

ouch...so much 'hatin' on poor Vincent . He was outstanding this game and he'll be missed. I'll remember not to invite you to the funeral. :o Oh wait, he was devoured ...

Wow, what did Vincent do to deserve that?

8 years of constant disappointment, as long as crappy stats, useless special ability and terrible movement.

With Avi, we constantly joke about the strongest Herald ever: "playing a party of 4 Vincent Lee. You can't win any game with those"

I'll agree that he's more of a challenge than most Investigators , but his 5/5 stats allow him a bit more breathing room in the Sanity department than say, Monterey (poor, insanity-prone, Monty )

You know, I'd have something to say about Monterey too... LOL

Ha! No doubt...please don't pick on my Monty . Truthfully, he was the very first Investigator I played, which led to me to my passion, addiction , love for the game . :D

During the most recent game, the newly appointed Deputy of Arkham is a Cursed , " Phony " Magician with Memory Loss ( Injury ) and an Addiction ( Madness ). Good luck, Arkham!

That almost sounds like the protagonist of Memento. The film is very good as it is but it would be interesting to see it in a Lovecraftian setting.

"Okay, where am I? It seems I am chasing a tentacled horror. No, the tentacled horror is apparently chasing me."

If Arkham were a peaceful, quiet city we wouldn't get to keep saving it, right?

jlhorner,

If it were an otherwise "peaceful, quiet" location, it would be C a n d y l a n d .

So basically the difference from a crap game to a marvellous one is masochism. Fascinating :P

Not even close. If you think about it, Candy Land isn't really a game at all. The outcome is predetermined as soon as the cards are shuffled. There is no skill, no decisions. You don't even have the tiniest effect on the luck factor of the game because you aren't rolling any dice or choosing which card you want. At least with those kinds of games, there is an illusion you can affect the outcome. It's probably more correct to say that playing Candy Land is more like acting out a play than playing a game.

LOL, I don't have any experience with CandyLand, Jason, so, I cannot confute your knowledge / experience with the game .p :P

(disclaimer: I wasn't serious in my previous answer)

Well, in Arkham Horror you are trying to prevent an Ancient One from devouring the world. In Candyland, you are eating it (at least I assume you are, I mean it is a land made of candy after all). Perhaps the two should be played together to offer some perspective? Being an Ancient One might not be all that glamorous. Azathoth keeps drawing the juicy morsels to gobble up, Cthulhu gets plump savouries and you, you just keep getting those pesky investigators who feed you lead from their tommy guns. The cosmos can be such a dark and unforgiving place.
