Ten and Gunner

Hi all,

I'm looking at a build for the weekend and want to run -

B-Wing

Ten Numb. FCS, Mangler Cannon, VI, B-Wing/E2, Gunner.

Is Gunner 5pts that would be better spent elsewhere, or is he going to be worth his points?

Thoughts appreciated.

With mangler cannon, Ten Numb will always hit, as your opponent can not dodge that first crit, so gunner's effect will not go off

Read Ten Numbs pilot ability again.

With focus and FCS, you won't miss often. Put someone else in the copilot's seat, like Nien Nunb.

I'm happy that if I roll a hit with the Mangler it may be changed to a crit, and if there is only one crit it can't be cancelled, what I'm looking for is some advice on whether the 5 pts I'm looking to spend on Gunner is worth the extra roll in the event (quite a regular thing with my dice) that I roll three blanks.

I was typing when you posted, so I didn't see your replies. I like Nunb and run him a lot, not too sure about Tactician though, I've had very mixed results with him.

Yeah, with a Mangler on Ten the only time that Gunner will trigger is if you end up with all blanks (or eyeballs if you don't have a focus).

That is stupid expensive for a B-Wing that will quickly be burnt down. I'd be wary of putting much more that VI+Mangler on Ten. If I was going to add anything else it would be a Advanced Sensors so that he would be better able to keep Interceptors and Phantoms in his arc.

I love Buzzsaw B-Wings as a rule, but they don't tend to work with Ten, and the mango cannon makes him even less likely to ever trigger gunner.

If you get one uncanceled attack die past the defender, gunner doesn't trigger. Ten doesn't let the defender cancel a single crit. Mango turns one hit into a crit. So: as long as Ten rolls at least one hit or crit (on 3 dice), gunner won't trigger.

There are 3 hit results and 1 crit result on every red die. That means that any given 1 die attack he makes with the Mangler cannon has a 50/50 chance at doing damage. That means that even without any ways to modify dice, there's an 87.5% chance that Ten will do damage, and this cause gunner to not trigger.

If you have a focus token and elect to use it, the odds of getting an uncanceled attack die are 98.4%. So you'll only get to use gunner on 1.6% of all attacks. I'd save the 6 points. ;)

Given all that, I might put C3P0 on Ten, to make him a bit more survivable, or elect to run him with just the Mango, to keep him cheaper. Or maybe add VI + EU to the Mangler, to make him a Phantom's nightmare.

If you want Ten to be a crit monster go for recon specialist in the crew seat and Calculation as your EPT

You could even go nuts and equip the heavy laser cannon then bank on the slightly higher chance of getting eyeballs with 4 dice and a TL

It's not worth 6 points for Ten to have Gunner when he has a Mangler Cannon.

Gonna be honest expensive b-wings are a bad idea, they work well when cheap but at 44 points with only one agility it'll die first and fast.

Survivability is the way to go with Ten Numb's crew slot. C-3P0 or Chewbacca. Or just leave it empty and stick with VI + Mangler +/- Advanced Sensors +/- Engine Upgrade.

Ten I'd give VI, Mangler and maybe Advanced Sensors and I'd stop there. Otherwise he just gets too expensive for one B-wing.
