Possible E-X-A Rebel Squad?

By Kasuvari, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've mostly found good luck flying a 3 BWing/1 YWing build, but I have been striving to branch out and try new things.

As of late, I have been trying to create a good build that uses Corran without relying on Dash. I'd love some opinions on this build because I haven't seen any posted here like it.

Corran w/ FCS, R2D2 & Predator

Gemmer w/ Chardaan, Autothrusters, AWing Test Pilot & PTL

Biggs w/ Experimental Interface & R2-F3

My concept was that Experimental Interface would allow Biggs to take both focus and the R2-F3 card each turn while creeping green moves. Once he is gone, Corran and Gemmer break free and fly fast. With Gemmer's ability and Autothrusters he is covered at range 1 and 3 and with PTL boost, I could get him in close, or away quick. I'm assuming Corran will be the late-game ship, and at 44 points could win if the game goes to time.

Any thoughts?

Initially I was doubting it due to the 14 hitpoints but the R2 units will well with that a bit. For 3 points I don't think I'd take Predator w/FCS since you can't reroll a reroll.

How about:

Corran w/ VI, FCS & R2D2

Green w/ PtL, proton rockets & autothrusters

Biggs w/ R2-F2 & Exp. interface

Corran becomes scary vs. phantoms @ PS 10 and the Green Squadron pilot packs a nice punch with the proton rockets

I didn't think about how Predator wouldn't work with FCS. While PTL seems obvious, I'm torn between VI or Outmanuever which has done well for me with flanking turreted ships.

Interesting ship composition and tactics. It makes sense because you can focus fire to start and then break out once Biggs goes down.

When I think of A-Wings, I rarely go to Gemmer. I haven't had good experiences with him. His ability is solid, but at the end of the day he is just another A-Wing. Jake on the other hand can put out some punch and has served me well. What about something like this:

99 points
Pilots
------
Biggs Darklighter (25)
Jake Farrell (30)
A-Wing (24), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Proton Rockets (3), Veteran Instincts (1), Autothrusters (2)
Corran Horn (44)
E-Wing (35), R2-D2 (4), Fire-Control System (2), Push the Limit (3)
If you want to shy away from PTL on Corran, you can put VI on him and use the remaining points for Outmaneuver or PTL on Jake. If you don't want any kind of initiative bid, you can fill in the last point with Calculation on Jake.
Jake is 'just an A-Wing', but at PS 9 he can contend and outmaneuver phantoms, has a huge burst of power with Proton Rockets, and is fairly survivable in many situations. He is also costed efficiently I believe for what you get. He works really well with Lone Wolf as a flanker, but that is not your strategy with this particular build.
I know you have to drop R2-F2 and Experimental Interface, but that build does slow you down a little on the approach (unless that's what you want). I believe you gain more with Jake. Maybe with Corran you don't need those two Aces zipping around and causing havoc for your opponent. In that case take Blade's list and get back your R2-F2 and Exp. Interface.
Anyway, try Biggs with R2-F2/Exp Interface and see if it serves you better over something like a stronger A-Wing.

Gemmer is awesome

Predator gemmer is hilarious

Screw ptl. Dudes not Jakes, he's a bigass tie fighter with four agility who loves bumping and shooting knowing your opponent won't EVER want to shoot him while there's some other option.

But if you have biggs, then Biggs becomes the ideal target anyway so his ability is redundant.
