Pilot Ability Questions

By Squark, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hey, just a few questions about a number of pilot abilities.

1) I know Keyan farlander can remove stress when he attacks even if he rolls no focus results. Can he remove multiple stress tokens during a single attack (Say, because he was the target of multiple ships with tactician)?

2) Marek Stele deals a critical damage to Leebo (Most likely with Advanced Targetting Computer). What on earth happens?

3) The above scenario is resolved several times, and as a result, the rebel player's damage deck is empty. Should discarded cards be shuffled and then be used as a new damage deck?

1. When attacking, you may remove 1 stress token to change all of your focus results to hit results.

So only 1 gets removed

If he had the E1 mod and gunner he could remove a stress on each attack

2. Marek takes 3 cards from the deck and chooses which one to give to Leebo, discards the other 2 - Leebo takes another from the deck and chooses which one to take.

3. Not sure there's been a ruling on that yet - probably reshuffle and carry one would be most practical

2. With Marek vs Leebo you have Marek take three and give one to Leebo. Leebo then picks up another and decides which one to keep.

3. The rules do include instructions for dealing with an empty damage deck. If you're deck gets empty you will take all discarded damage card, including those from ships that have been removed from play, and reshuffle them to create a new damage deck. If there are no cards to reshuffle then you just give out some kind of card representing token which has no 'face-up' applications.

At home we just put used damage cards on the bottom of the deck as we go.

The problem with that is that it "stacks the deck" in a known fashion.

X-Wing may not have the damage deck control of actual card games but in MtG there are mechanics that let you look at a bunch of cards and then put them at the bottom of the deck in any order you choose. There, that order is very important as it sets up how you will eventually be drawing them.

The generalized answer here is that each ability can only be used once per triggering event. Farlander's ability triggers on an attack, so you can use his ability once per attack.

You should be creating a "discard pile", and when the Damage deck runs out, you shuffle the discard pile to create a new Damage deck. As per the Note on page 16.
