You would much more likely see something that just keeps your ship from being TL'd in general rather than a direct FCS counter. There are already some limited TL counters in the game (Kagi, Expert Handling)

But I don't see why an FCS "answer" is needed.

I doubt they would create a card to counter one specific upgrade like that. Maybe something that works whenever someone would acquire a target lock against you, but it would have to be pretty steeply costed to counter a core mechanic like that.

Given that it consumes the modifcation slot and only triggers 3/8ths of the time, I think you'd be okay to make it the following:

"At the beginning of the activation phase, roll a single defense die, for the remainder of the turn enemy ships may not acquire target locks on you."

I don't think that's the right way to go, in fact I don't think anyone would drop the one point specifically to disable a two point upgrade the opponent might have.

A better counter may be something like this:

RAM Coating

Modification - 3 points

Whenever an enemy attempts to target lock you, roll a defense die. On an evade or focus, gain that token. On a blank, the enemy successfully acquires a target lock.

That'd actually be a really fun Illicit upgrade.

I don't think a card that counters a specific card is good design.

Something that generically messes with target locks would be better. We have a few, but they are not popular/effective, Expert Handling, Sensor Jammer, Counter Measures etc.

That being said, its unlikely because as of now, ordnance has enough of issues and anything that would nerf target locks would also weaken ordnance even more.

I would love to see an EPT that mimics Canor Jax's and/or Dark Curse's pilot ability. They've borrowed from so many others for EPT cards, why not those two pilots?

I don't think fcs is that strong that it needs a specific card to counter it.

Secondly, using a slot to deter target locks seems like a waste imo.

People will just focus instead. I think for what it takes (a slot) and pts that not many lists are target lock dependant.

So just seems like a waste of time.

No free action to prevent PtL abuse, no defense against Vessery, works multiple times when attacked by Gunner, Luke, Cluster Missiles or Corran.

This won't happen, because it would nullify the entire catalog of munitions reliant on Target Locks.

Perhaps it wouldn't let you re-roll die from a TL, but negating the action altogether would make FCS, Munitions, some native pilot talents and some astromechs utterly worthless. Far too powerful.

Not quite sure why you believe FCS is meta defining... Look through the SC recent wins, not many FCS upgrades out there. I'm going to point out that you suggest a lot of fixes to things you find unfair and relatively often, I would suggest looking more to yourself as to why you believe it is broken then to fix something no one else finds issue with.

Also anything that harms TLs is going the opposite direction the game developers want right now with ordnance, so I highly doubt any such thing will happen. If its a big problem for you, go play some large ships and take countermeasures, there is your one shot TL drop.

Edit: Also there is a card that helps elevate TL happy lists, sensor jammers. Can't reroll that die.

What we really need is a systems upgrade for turreted ships to take FCS [insert troll face here] since Autothrusters has made them completely unviable.

They already made a counter to FCS. It's called R7 Astromech- works best on Tarn.

R7 Astromech

Once per round whe defending, if you have a target lock on the attacker, you may spend the target lock to choose any or all attack dice. The attacker must reroll the chosen dice.

If you do the math, R7 ends up neatly cancelling their target lock. First, you spend your target lock to reroll all the good attack dice. Then he spends his target lock to reroll all the bad ones. All the dice get rerolled once and can't be rerolled again, so the first roll almost doesn't even matter.

Exactly! Right now this game has gone to using almost no un named pilots, Except for a few. We need something to make non named generics able to break target locks too. Let's face it every modern ship can drop chaff or flare to break target locks, most have sometype of ECM jammer too. You cannot tell me that with that much technology they would have something to defend against it. FCS is currently one of the most powerful upgrades, and poor generics really have no way to avoid it. Since it's an auto target lock. And FFG is looking for ways to power down the phantom and Corran, here is the simple way. Sure they can still use their abilities, but they have risk that every Z-95 they face might cancel it, If someone really wants to spend the points.

I almost feel their should be an independent upgrade, called Counter Measures: With all sorts of defense cards, each ship would be allowed to take 1. Each counter measure would have a different cost, It just makes sense.

We all know that in War one country comes up with something, then the other counters with something to stop it.

I love flying generics, but really in today's meta. They're are very scarce.

I fear Star wars X-wing is becoming Hero-Wing, just like warhammer became Hero-Hammer. We know what happened with that. I just hate to see all my generic cards sitting in their bin unused.

We need a mod that disables boosting or barrel rolling perhaps. Something to slow down 3-4 action ships.

FCS doesn't need to be eliminated.

And if the enemy doesn't have FCS, which is a very high probability? Wasted points.

FFG refused to make a card that targeted only turrets (see Autothrusters's range 3 utility), they're not going to make a card that's outright useless if the enemy doesn't take a specific ship, and certainly not one targeting a lone upgrade.

Besides, attacking the Target Lock action is far more harmful than useful.

If you're being target locked too much get Expert Handling.
