I've liked Spacers with Mangler. I think it's a good use of 20 points in a scum list where not a lot of other things fit neatly.
Scyks w/ Mangler Cannons - your experience?
Has anyone tried TPV's with Mango and Outmaneuver. It's the same cost as a HLC, but has a much better chance of getting the auto crits through. In a way it is effectively a 4 dice attack (except versus Decimators), though the variance is a lot lower (and capped at 3). How often do you actually pull off 4 damage with a HLC anyway.
I understand it requires flying well, but worth it, not sure yet. It should be pretty good up close (where barrel roll and PS5 help outmaneuver), and far away, where you have the dice advantage versus practically every ship type (assuming outmaneuver activates).
Scyk with mangler cannon is like a marriage between tie fighter and tie interceptor. - or more like an alpha interceptor with no boost action, that can target lock
So far, I've had fun running Guri and three Scyks with Manglers. I'd really like to pick up two more M3s so I can try five Cartel Spacers. It doesn't hurt they are a blast to repaint. ![]()
So, my personal preference of S&V ships went like this before today:
1.) Starviper (it's like the B-wings older, cooler, shadier brother)
2.) Z-95 (holy ****, the ways in which feedback make the most boring ship in the game a blast to play...)
3.) HWK (the fun of area denial began with the feedback Z and continued on into muk and palob. After all the arc-dodging non-sense, being able to play around your own positioning instead of your opponent's reactive bull is a massive breath of fresh air)
4.) Y-wing (a mini ion defender and the mega feedback array, respectively)
5.) Firesprays (Super fun but can't fly large ships for ****)
6.) Scyk (the **** is this thing? It's adorable, sure, and it can pack a cannon...but 3 hull with only 3 green dice? this'll never fly!)
0.) Aggressors (2 ship builds are the devil)
After today, move Scyks right up along the Star Viper. I flew Guri with two autoblaster Y-wings and an adorable little mangler cartel (w/hull, because **** tie fighter stats), because I managed to talk myself into it thinking of it as an A-wing and as the only way to get any long range firepower into the squadron. That little guy carried, because neither me nor my opponent expected anything of him.
This doesn't get said enough: Wave 5 was some garbage bull that stifled creativity and dumbed down the game to such a ball-shrinkingly low degree it was hard to imagine we were still playing X-wing...but by God was it worth it for Wave 6!
S&V gets generics right. Ships such as the Y-wing, the feedback Z, and the mangler Scyk are perfect in their ability to pull incredibly decent weight just on their own merits, but also to threaten a wider variety of threats such as the slayer of all generics, the phantom. I would've quit the game in Wave 5 if I hadn't tried out Tactician B-wings and later Delta Defenders, and S&V generics made me glad I stuck around ![]()
Now, the little Scyk isn't very versatile in that I would never run it as anything other than naked or with mangler + hull/shield, but it is an incredibly self-sufficient little package. Perfect action bar, an amazing dial (seriously, it's 2nd only to the A-wing/Tie Interceptor for small ships), and a great cannon that is relevant at all ranges for a very modest sum.
Edited by ficklegreendiceFickle, you clearly need to play more single aggressor builds....
Scyks with manglers are super effective in my experience. I love the scyk and scum A-4 Y-wing combo. The Y-wings joust very effectively, but also control the enemy. The control lets the Scyks stay out of arc against non-turret ships, and then they start dropping crits.
Yup and as mentioned any one hit that is not cancelled becomes a wonderful crit. Five Seekies means five delightful happy little Crits!

Y-Wings are now a stock ship that needs to be in almost any SCUM IMO.

I'll add again, don't underestimate the HLC on that ship! Especially when your list has other high priority targets! Don't get TOO put off by the cost. IMO, I think it should give you more bang for your buck than Mangler + Hull, especially against other high agility targets, which the meta may still be full of for a while.
Fickle, you clearly need to play more single aggressor builds....
I would, but the ship just looks so silly to me ![]()

I stopped playing Scyks after I deadmans switched my shield and clipped an asteroid for a direct hit.

I totally agree with that. Unfortunately it's limiting my builds because 25-50 points are tied up in Y-wings in every list.

That is the thing about me, i am an odd duck here and i have come to just understand that and be happy with how i game.
I always do at least 300 point games.

it is fun to see the cool people here fuss to figure out a 100 points or less.
I do not like that much of a limit on my gaming, but I can understand why other Wingers go for it.
It is the rules sure, but to me rules are made as a guide to other places that I live with, and that I am happy with.
It is my time, money, and life... after all.

one of X-wings biggest draws for me is how I get to play with amazing look minis whilst ignoring my less than adequate modeling skills ![]()
The more I play the M3-A the more I like it. Unfortunately I only ordered two, but my other two will be in this week. I really like the mangler on them but they are very fragile, very reminiscent of Tie Interceptors. Next weekend I will be running a list with a variety of cannon upgrades to see which I like best. In my opinion they are too fragile to justify loading up on heavy laser cannons though.
I definitely agree with this. HLC is too much.
I did order 3 of them with the idea that I can borrow some from my friends, but we are all playing with them at the moment, so I can't!
I am going to see if I can make a PTL Scyk with SU and HLC work. It's expensive, but with PTL and the extra shield it could be a durable little ship that hits very hard.
While the Scyk's dial is beautiful, the lack of a green hard turn is keeping me from putting PTL on them
Good. Crazy good.
And even more importantly than that - fun, Crazy fun.
They are a glass cannon, but man, when they hit, things go boom, and when they blow up, things go boom, lol.
I'm trying a 3-Scyk Mangler list with Guri at the moment. It's been doing surprisingly well. I like this little ship.
It is a great little ship!

33 points is a pretty steep investment for a PS5 ship that can take 4 hits.
Ive run 3 of these with guri, 4 with shield upgrade and 5 just with mangos. Love em. They Can smash stuff but have no chance vs a good whisper player. Youll only win if he puts whisper on a Stone or has horribad dice.
Last monday i ran two warthogs with Agro, title, ICT together with two mango scyks with shield upgrade. Ther are two points for a set of two dampeners og a flechette Torp.
It felt like a true beast and won two games back to back. 24 HP 8 of whitch are behind 3 green d. The warthogs draw fire and brawl while the mangos try to stay at range 2-3 and back up. opinions?

I don't disagree, but I've played with A-wings and Interceptors with a hull/shield and have found both of those pretty resilient, especially with focus/evade. These are touch more expensive, but will also hit harder.
Good. Crazy good.

Haven't tried my StarVipers yet, but that's the first list I want to try (Predator and all the fun stuff on Guri). I've been recommending it pretty hard and a friend who read my blog has won a few games against good opponents with it ![]()
I think he may have said something about running into Chiraneau with Vader though... pop go the Scyks ![]()
I can't seem to make them work personally. Both games I played, they got picked off within the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Too glass jaw for a HLC or ManCan platform, might as well use Z-95s if you want a swarm.
Yeah, Scyks are far too brittle to run cannons, imo
that is, until you bump them up to A-wing status. I know after playing my Proto-type pilot that 4 health with 3 agility is a surprisingly stable little package, especially when you have that sexy of a dial. Plus, clocking in at 23 to 24 points with a mangler & hull/shield, it's actually very reasonably priced for the 3 dice + hit --> crit + ignoring range 3 bonus offense.
