Check your Dice

By heychadwick, in X-Wing

Hi All,

Last night, my friend and I were playing a game and he happened to look really closely at his green dice. One of them was badly misshapen! He started looking at all his dice, and nothing else was out of sort. We looked at my dice...and one of them was badly shaped, too!

It might be really hard to see in this picture. The bad one is in the middle and I tried to put two normal ones around it to showcase. The edge above the eye shows how close it is to the eyeball icon. What you don't see is really how warped the whole die is. It's really amazing that I haven't noticed this before.

Now, my friend started the game when it first came out, but didn't get to play much and I only recently convinced him to take out his stuff again. Maybe he got a bad batch before quality control was good? Maybe we swapped dice after tossing them around the table at some point? I don't know, but I did contact FFG about it. I'm sure they will replace it.

The good news is that I now have an official excuse for every game I have ever lost before. I must have been using that green die and it must have rolled bad. It's the only thing I can think of. I lost with my Tie Bomber list at the SC last month because of that die. I would've surely defeated those 3 Tie Phantoms if it weren't for that die. All other games are now null and void as I had a bad die. For those games that I won, it was purely due to my brilliance to overcome such a malformed die being used. Either that or I didn't grab that one when it was important.

Thanks for the heads-up!

I'll have to check mine out! Thanks for the heads up and pic!

That explains a lot :P

We already know that green dice are treacherous beings.

But now we have visible proof.

Further proof of the Illuminati! Bring out the foil hats!

My green dice love me. :P

The only exception being when I'm flying a valuable ship and I'm being shot at at range 3 through an asteroid. Then they'll all be blanks.

Other than that my green dice and I get along just fine.

I think its an optical illusion and your eyes are playing a trick with your eyes

Now we know. But still my psycho Tycho still loves my green dice especially now with auto thrusters lol.

I think the real question we should be asking here is: were the dice always that way, or did someone warp them with their heat vision?

That was my first thought (as I live in the South). When I look at the die, though, its actually a matter of there not being enough plastic in certain places. So, it's not that it was plastic and melted an odd way. It's that the shape is all normal, except for a portion of it doesn't have enough.

Also, it isn't an optical illusion. I wish I had a better picture or way to show how it's really misshaped.

I love stuff like this. None of my dice are wonky, though. I do have one of those Ion Cannon Turret Missiles we've seen a few times, though!

Paging ficklegreendice...

I don't want to check my dice last week I rolled 4 dice all crits then I had 2 rounds rolling 3 green all evades. I want to stay ignorant

I actually have an almost identical green! I just keep it separate from the others. Also for the record the two flatter sides are (I think) blank and focus! Glad I'm not the only one :P

I have a green die that has a bulge on one blank side. It's opposite from an evade so I'm guessing that it's less likely to roll an evade. I just don't use it.

On a more serious note, cheap mass produced dice like these are generally not the most accurate. Kinda makes me wish that I could find replacement dice that are manufactured to a higher standard.
