Storage Storage Storage

By kujoe1988, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I have been messing around with a few different was to store this game that

A. Make sense

B keeps skirmish stuff together

I would love to see pic how everyone is store the game as a whole, cards, figures, etc.. Pictures would be great :)

This isn't my final set up I'd have to take a picture tonight but it's the same box.

Most units can stand upright (only Gahr and the Royal Guard Champ don't fit).

AT-ST and Weiss fit in the top compartment along with an LCG deck box that has all the full size cards. The small sleeved cards are actually in the longer mid tray compartments as with expansion figures fill the top two rows in almost all three trays. There are small trays that go sideways in the side compartments I use one of them to house tokens and then the other is left empty for baggies of map tiles. My manuals and maps fit either in between the bottom two trays and the top or beneath all the trays.

I set it up so Rebel units are in one tray and another for Scum Imperials. The top tray has 1-2 skirmish squads their cards and command decks for quick play.

It may run into trouble with the wave after Twin suns but it works for now. Ideally I can just purchase additional trays and brings the ones I need with me in the carrying case.

Plano 732. Was $35 at Walmart.

Here's a pic of the 728 I started with.

Don't be fooled. There's not enough room in it. The center trays are the size of the small trays in the 732 and they can't hold a lot of units standing (Royal Guards/ Vader, Probe Droids etc).

Spend the extra $5 on the 732!

I got this for $20 at Wally's after a leftover Christmas gift card and the one that was on the shelf missing one of the smaller side boxes, they knocked off another $5 for that. Didn't care about the missing box as I had a box that fit in the spot that was a single compartment that fits all the 3x3 and up tiles except the 2 jumbo square main tiles. Other small side box has all the tokens and dice to keep all that stuff you'd used during the game in 1 spot. 1 box in middle is separated out for minis. 2nd box has cards serperated out with room for more. 3rd box has the 2x2 and 1x2 tiles in compartments and the door stands but mostly empty. Under the top lid is rule books, Rebel hero cards and the AT-ST mini. Slot along the back I've put the Luke & Vader mission map papers and most likely where new release mission map papers will go also as they are acquired. A pen and the threat/round dial sit in a side spot in there as well. Still plenty of space to expand.

I got the same, only I happened to have some foamrubber laying around. So I've been cutting it up and laying the mini's on their side in the compartments. Most of them fit pretty well in a single cell, the probdroids, Gaarkhann and Vader don't. So I've either used 2 cells or the big cells at the bottom.

I figure I can fit 70 miniatures in the 3 trays.

Thanks any chance you can post a picture?

I'm planning to pick up some foam this weekend at Adepticon.

Thanks any chance you can post a picture?

I'll post one tonight or perhaps this weekend.

But there's not much more to it. I just cut a 1x2 inch strip of foam out and put it in the cell, then lay the mini on top of that. It's not as nice as say a battlefoam thing where there's a pocket for the model. The only thing I'm doing is having it rest on foam rather than plastic so as long as I'm kinda careful with it, then the paint should be protected.

Ok so no foam on the sides of each inidivdual compartment. I original thought about that but it seemed like a ton of work! (Lazy painter)

I've done a foam core insert.

Have been promising to do the actual guide with (rough) measurements for way too long, but will do a write up soon. Promise

And then I've bought a Feldherr backpack for the minifies themselves

No nothing like that. There really isn't room in the 1x2 size cells that you get with the 732. But IME the matt finish I use protects the paint well enough that a little bit of care and I don't have to worry about them getting chipped from bumping into the sides. The foam I had is an inch thick I think, I had to cut it to 1/2 inch for some of them.

I actually did do foam on the sides for the probe droids, but that was mostly because I had so much extra space to fill in. they're just a tiny bit too tall to fit in the smaller cells.

You could most likely stand them upright and put a thin layer of foam on all sides, but that would require a good deal more work than I wanted, and I don't think it would offer much better protection.

Here's what I did with mine...

I have the 3 main trains for mini's. As I said I think I can fit 70 of them in there, which is plenty.

One of the trays that go in the side, has all my tokens and the dice. Which is sooo nice, just take it out and put it on the table. Keeps things organized nicely and makes it quick and easy to find stuff. Plus it's not that big so it doesn't take up much space. the other side tray has most of my cards.

The top compartment has room for both my AT-ST's, with some foam glued in to project them. Also have the rule books in there and the tiles in baggies.

The two top side compartments hold the doors and such, with the divided one holding the campaign deck, and imp deployment cards.

Just ordered a Plano 732 online, great idea!

I like to use the boxes that come with the game as often as possible. For now I'm using the base bowx, even with expansion content. I think by the time Wave 2 comes, I'll switch things up and put all miniatures in the expansion box, and all game components in the core box. For wave 3 and beyond however, all bets are off.

Here's my custom insert if anyone is interested:

Perhaps these may be of use. I'm thinking the Battle Case, the middle sized one may be perfect.

Here's a picture of a full tray from a 732. You get 3 trays with it, so you can do this 3 times. For the Nexu, I haven't completely decided how I'll do them. If I put foam on the sides then the base doesn't fit well. If I don't they might get knocked around a bit. So I'm thinking once I paint them I may put foam in, but not glue it to the walls.

I have more pictures of the other trays with tokens and such, if anyone wants to see those you can IM me and I'll send you links.

If anyone no longer wants their original box I would gladly take it off your hands, seriously pm and we can make a deal!

Plano 1374 works great for me. I don't have any pictures but the way I have it organized I still have 2 trays left for more everything!

Miniature Markets March Madness sale has some commercial boxes and foam for some great prices. Their stock is either gone, or low on many of them though.

Wish granted! Enjoy!

I am also using the Plano tackle box from walmart, the $40 one, it works great! I also use a larger Plano tackle Box for my X-wing. Though I am not sure what to use for Armada.

Looking at that battlefoam tray, it doesn't seem to be worn it. There's no room for the expansions, especially general Weiss, and I can guarantee it will be a chore getting the round tokens out of those slots. Additionally, there seems to be very little organization when it comes to the game tiles. I've found that it takes a considerable amount of time to set up between missions and organizing the tiles effectively really helps to minimize that down time.

Having 2 warmachine bags by battlefoam and being very happy with their design and forethought, I am very disappointed in their decisions regarding that product.

I now own 5 Plano 732 boxes - 2 for X-Wing, 1 for Star Trek Attack Wing, 1 for Imperial Assault, and 1 for Armada. Absolutely perfect for X-Wing and Imperial Assault. The VSD in Armada is a problem (the antenna, that damned antenna). But it fits in the top, and I'm used to the layout of the boxes...

It's really funny locally to see our X-Wing tourneys - no less than 6 of us have the 732. And I have 2 of them. We use stickers to keep them apart. LOL

Also, as we're on storage - I've found that a Case Logic CD wallet (2 high, single column) is absolutely perfect for all but 3 of the map tiles (01, 19 and 03). I put each tile in its own pouch and then I wrote the tile number on the pouch with a sharpie, so finding tiles and putting them away is really fast and super easy now... And the CD wallet fits in the top of the 732 tackle box...
