ISD base size

By MaverickNZ, in Star Wars: Armada

Bump, because people have started talking all over again about how the ISD could be a medium ship in all new threads :/

Thanks for bumping this, I started a thread today without seeing this one >.< I orginally thought that the ISD would be about 8" long, but the fact that it's going to be closer to 10" is awesome. And since the VSD is about 5.5" it'll be pretty close to scale with it!

I know everyone is gaga over the IDS's, but seeing the pre-production picture of the MonCal MC-80 I thought...****....that's a sexy looking ship!

I'm pretty pumped to get my hands one, even if I am a die hard imperial lol.

Bumping yet again, because someone else made another thread saying its medium.

Seems some people are still getting caught by the typo in the rules reference guide that large bases were 192mm, when it was changed the very next day to say they are 129mm long.

Thanks for the bump. I had made the mistake seeing the typo 192mm in the reference guide, and assuming that the ISD was on a Medium base. My bad. Sorry for dredging this one up :)

On the other hand, we know from Xwing that FFG is capable of making ships bigger...

Yep, just be aware though that even whilst the large base size isnt that much bigger than the medium, the ISD and Mon Cal Cruiser extend considerably longer than the base. The current estimate for the ISD is around 21-23cm long. (8 1/2 - 9 inches)

Are you revising down your estimate? I thought you estimated 21-25cm before.

Yep, I posted a few pages back that with other pictures that came out I was revising slightly more conservatively. I still predict 20+ cm though, just not quite as much as 25.

Edit: actually it was just slightly further up this page :)

Measuring the VSD when it first arrived had it at just shy of 14cm, for the ISD to be completely "in scale" with it (1/6428), it'd be 24.8cm... pretty close to your estimate... but even if it is over 20cm, it should give a good sense of relative scale. Good job on that. Granted, none of the other starting ships are in scale with each other, so that's probably less of a design consideration.

I really hope it is the larger size. Looking at some of the other ships, I am hoping the sliding scale is more to make the small ships larger and more attractive models.

... So I would predict the model will be about 25cm long (250mm).

Edit, based on some new pictures that surhaced from different angles I am now predicting between 20 - 24cm, but most likely between 21 - 23 cm :)

For comparison, here is a ~22.6cm long ISD model next to the ~14cm long Victory Class.

At 22.6cm it looks big enough to me. Not quite to proper scale, but big enough to look correct on the table.

Is that the FFG mini for the Imperial class? Or is it from some other source?

It is the Disney Die Cast SD model . It is roughly 1/7080 scale. I had picked it up back when I thought the Victory in the Armada box was supposed to be an ISD and thought it was way too small ;)

To me, it looks about the same size as the one in the cabinet when I positioned the two models in roughly the same places.

Wish I had the Deathstar playmat for size comparison there. Though, if someone wants to take an overhead shot of their Victory class, we could scale it and match everything up.

If its that size.... I can live with it. :)

This thread is how conspiracy theories get started.

What are those six black spots on the ISD?

The mere thought that the ISD model is going to be approximately that size is enough to make me thrilled to be a participant in this miniatures game :)

Sure, it'll be expensive to get to the table but it's going to be the friggin queen of space to put it into play. And as an Imperial Navy fan, I'll love every minute of it.

I don't even care what size the ISD is, I just want it NAAAAAAAAOOOOOOWWWWW,!!

What are those six black spots on the ISD?

Blast damage. There are a few on the bottom as well.
