How Common were the MC30 Frigates?

By R22, in Star Wars: Armada

I've only heard of them in the Empire at War PC game, where fleet selections were guided by the player. Any word on how common they were in the Rebel fleet?* They seem like glass cannon support ships. And are they on a medium or small base? Hard to tell.

*(... i.e. how many should I be buying? Haha.)

Not sure how common they were but, I plan to buy at least 2. I'll see how they perform and see if I want more.

I know they're based on the concept art for Mon Cal ships in ROTJ but they don't quite fit the MC feel for me. Feel more like an independent or tertiary force. That being said, the literature on them is fascinating. Cluster bombs and proton torpedo SALVOS? I just wanna kamikazie one of those into an Imperial convoy...

As far as I know there is no solid data on how many there were. The only places they ever appeared outside of Empire at War until now were one comic book and a cutscene in an old PC game.

There was a reference in the old WEG Rebel Alliance sourcebook to the mon cal yards being able to produce one corvette or frigate a month though but when production started and how many frigates were converted from other craft like many of the early MC89s were is unknown..

How common? If I were commanding the fleet in a game of Empire at War you saw them all the freakin' time...

Even though they were overpriced and inefficient given access to B-Wings, they were still one of my favorite ships!

And they are definitely on a medium base

Compare with the pic of the raider(small base) and you will notice a substantial increase in the gap between the edge of the base and the shield dials in the middle

Edit: doublecheaked the pictures and actually I was mistaking, they are pretty difficult to tell apart, so I will declare as a small base

I generally used 3 or 4 MC30Cs in a light squadron, and 6 to 8 in a heavy squadron myself plus a bunch guarding key worlds.

(I generally have a main fleet consisting of 5 to 8 light squadrons, a reserve fleet of 3 to 5 light squadrons and 2 or 3 roving squadrons by the end. Heavy squadrons I form to go after specific targets then strip them down to light squadron strength while using the extra ships as a defense fleet once the target is taken.

I always fight tooth and nail for moncalimari and kuat , then I just build star destroyers, lots and lots of star destroyers...

I go for the capital ship producers first as well but that's usually more to keep the enemy from mass producing them then plans to do so myself. I generally have one MC80 per light squadron, two per heavy, and a few guarding the capital ship producers and Coruscant once I take it though most of the defender MC80s are stripped from heavy squadrons.

As the rebels that probably is the best tactic, but as imperials if your not mass producing capital ships (or at least the victory class) your doing it wrong
