The correct order of the Ancient Ones

By Jallis370, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I am in the planning phase of making a book about the Great Old Ones to replace the sheets of the game with.

I wonder if I should make it straight forward alphabetic or divide them into their respective expansions. If I divide them I want to have them in the order they should be in, although I am unshure of what the order would relate to. The lore, or something else?

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

If your really want to order them according to expansions: I'd suggest starting with the base game and then go chronologically in the order in wich the expansions were released. (Not sure that order would relate to anything)

I guess you could also devide them into Great Old Ones, Outer Gods, Other gods, etc. Alltough this will cause some problems with Shub-niggurath who has been classified as both a Great Old One (Derleth) and an Outer God (Call of Cthulhu Rpg)

I would find alphabetical order a lot more useful and practical than splitting them up by expansion, which seems kind of arbitrary. Then it would have more like an encyclopedia or reference book feel to it, which seems appropriate.

Ultimately, do what's going to work best for you.

Yeah. Seems like alphabetical is the way to go. But notes about great, outer, other and etc is a detail I should include.

Wikipedia has a good summary of information on the ancient ones of the Cthulhu mythos. It's probably a good starting point for information.

Alphabetical is the recommended choice. Your reader may not be knowledgeable enough to know which entities fall into which categories.

Incidentally, if you want to cover the background, you might want to invest in Malleus Monstratum as well.
