Super Star Destroyer discussion thread

By Eagle128, in Star Wars: Armada

Wow 1000 posts...

Thank you for doing that so it can't be used as an excuse to revive this thread the next time it drops off.....

TK1001 why aren't you at your post?

I think the X wing players have the right idea for really big ships

If all goes well in a few weeks once I pay for it I should be getting my resin Super Star Destroyer and then I'll start in with my friends on what to do for an Armada game with the SSD as the focal point on the game.

I'm looking forward getting this and once it's painted it'll be ready for several games.

Michael

And I think the best news about getting the SSD is that I'm not paying for it.

A very good friend of mine gave me the money and said buy it.

So that's what I'm doing and I have my friend to thank for it.

Can he be my friend?

May the 4th be with you!

The SSD must stay on page one today! ;)

Yeah...I want to see this beast on the tabletop.

Put 2 X-wing Raiders Back to back. :P

One... Or both of the missing SKUS. Queue up the Imperial March, the SSD is coming.

I have a question has anyone done up stats for the Executer SSD yet?

And if not then why hasn't it been done.

The reason I ask is that many of the Shapeways ships like the Quaser Fire Carrier and Liberty(with wings)has been done along with others then why hasn't the Executer been done?

Michael

I did one with a three tiered base, and intend to rework it for a double large base ship, over at KDY.

Executor-class super star destroyer, 3 cards.

Picture a double large base, with a large base on top of that, set toward the rear, with a small centered on that. You can activate each section independently, but only one section moves it.

You can target inner sections, but unless you destroy the outer hull it is considered obstructed.

I was playing with the idea of allowing squadrons to move onto the tiers and ignore the obstructing outer hull, if thy can get in range.

I would like to print this out can you tell me how to do that?

Thanks

Michael

Ok, you may need to register first. Add to print queue. Click on print queue. Select what you want to print. Or copy paste into a word doc, because you will need to resize the outer hull base. I think it needs to go on legal size paper.

I am still waiting till the end of the month when I order one, to start building my prototype tiered base, as it needs to have 2 arms to support the SSD. The arms should be easy enough with some 1/8 inch plastic sheet from the hobby shop, and I have pulled about half the keyhole pegs out of my ships, so I have plenty of those to glue on top of my custom arms. My first prototype base will be done in Styrofoam sheeting, as long as it works, I will build something more permanent.

If you have any suggestions, please don't hesitate to post them here, or at KDY.

I received my SSD from Mel's Miniatures today. It's a beauty. Approximately 25 inches long, 6 1/2 inches long, and 1 1/2 inches tall.

Pictures below with a FFG SSD for size comparision:

As the scale opposition said, the small Bridge on the SSD does somewhat break the impression that the SSD is a huge ship...

It's still an awesome miniature and the thing will look great when it is painted.

As for using it in ARMADA games, I have a solution to the visual problem...

Meet the INEXORABLE CLASS SUPER STAR DESTROYER, a 4.8 Km predecessor of the Executor Class SSD... (Mel's SSD with a FFG Imperial Star Destroyer Bridge. Going to attach it with strategically placed magnets so the SSD can also remain a display model of EXECUTOR.) This allows for an in-scale SSD and also solves the overwhelming firepower conundrum of the Executor SSD in comparison to the other ships in the game... Plus I get to create new class of SSD while doing it.

Let me know what you think of my solution.

THATS AWESOME!

I am a little jealous

But it does show the issues with scaling the ssd down so far, it's bearly wider then the isd lol

Still awesome though I look forward to AAR

Where is this from?

Where is this from?

The template looks to me like a top-down view of fractalsponge's Allegiance -class battlecruiser.

LTJGBeam I'm still waiting for my SSD from Mel's Miniatures but thanks for the pictures.

The other thing I'm planning to do is that if it gets here's before the end of May I plan on taking it with me to a local gaming convention as I'll be running my Star Wars Grassy Plains game and I'm going to show it off and let people there know that I'll be running an Armada game with the SSD in it.

But I'm still somewhat jealous right now.

As much as that Mel miniatures model is very cool, I wonder if it would be better if the scale was a bit more in keeping with the ISD, ie, the whole ship is 26cm long or whatever, but this would place the 'real' size of the model as 3 times the size of an ISD...I probably haven't explained what I mean very well...

From the diagram:

it's nearly 650 mm or 65 cm long, and yes, 3 times the length of an ISD. It's almost as large as you can get and still have a "comfortably playable" model - get much larger and it'll be a pain to give it a viable combat base.

If the Corvette is "really" about 1/11 the length of the ISD and yet can get away with the model being 1/3 the length- maybe the Executor can manage a similar size ratio.
