Super Star Destroyer discussion thread

By Eagle128, in Star Wars: Armada

it could be hollow cast for about $150. with about 5lbs of resin. :D

One of the unidentified skews is the SSD!

You heard it here first.

And if I am wrong...

Who cares it is fun to dream.

Plus the SSD thread was getting too far down the list. :D

Happy one year anniversary, SSD Thread! :P

How the hell did this get back on the front page?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Would you prefer someone go bump some of the Wave 3 Threads we've had recently?

At least this stays (relatively) contained...

The dream thread, it will never truly die. It should die until there is some news on it but it just keeps coming back.

Well, I did hear the SSD will have at least on Contain token. Does that count as news? :P

I think it should have "Too Big to Fail. The Executor is immune to critical hits except from A-Wings, which instantly destroy it."

;)

I found a out of production kit for one that was 38" long and only cost $395. sad they had mold problems and took it out of production.

But then you also have to sac the A-Wing.

Seems like a good trade for the Rebel player.

That's a very nice model you found there. However, in reference to the star destroyer shown along side it, the model fells right for scale but way to big for any constructive use on a table top.

At 2/3rds the length of that model; ~27 inches or so and maybe 3/4ths the width plus some judicious shaving of the fantail we might be talking about a usable (non-display piece) model. That said, the sheer size of the model puts into perspective the necessary changes to the rules that would be needed to field such a monstrosity (there would need to me more that the traditional four facings, but how many? 6? 8? 10? and how in gods name would you handle movement, etc).

Its models like that that make me think that its too bad my living room doesn't have the space for a SSD.

I was thinking a bit about commands and such as well, just this morning. I think I'd almost argue you'd have to select all six commands before the start of the game. I might even go with the idea that you don't get to even issue one on the first turn.

Movement, I think you'd almost have to say it moves 2 or even 3 to get one notch for turning? I mean...she's a beast.

What was it Douglas Adams said? "Looks like a fish, moves like a fish, steers like a cow."

As much as the fanboy in me wants to see this monster on the table, even I have to admit that I think it would largely just sit there and hammer on your opponent. It's a bit like the Armada equivalent of Superman; for all its godlike strength, it's mostly just going to fly around hitting stuff really hard. ;)

Or just apply one hit to the squad.

Why not just use the X-wing raider?

Why not just use the X-wing raider?

Too small. 24-27 inches should be the best compromise between look and playability.

The more I think about it, the best compromise in size would look best the closer the SSD command tower is in scale to the one on the ISD. a little creative modeling and it could work with a slightly oversized command tower.

Then it is settled, we need an X-wing scale Star Destroyer. :)

Why not just use the X-wing raider?

I think that something about that size would look good.

It has been my stand since the beginning of this thread and will not change. Just admit you don't care how rediculous it would look and that you just want one just to have one and we are good, don't try and justify how it would look good.

Have you actually seen the Origonal Trilogy? The ISD is more than half the size of the Raider and in the movie the Executor dwarfed the ISD.

I do not think it would look any more ridiculous than the corvette, as it is a sliding scale. I also 100% disagree that it would be an embarrassment, again as it is a sliding scale. I think that is the point that so many who keep saying you can not do it keep forgetting nothing in this game is to scale, as they do not have a scale that they use. So a SSD the size of the X-wing Raider would be a fair amount larger than the ISD, and I think it would look nice. It would be large enough to show that it is bigger, and yet still small enough to be playable.
