Super Star Destroyer discussion thread

By Eagle128, in Star Wars: Armada

You guys seem to be very stuck on the whole size issue. I know many before me have said, but the sizing of ships aren't all in scale. It's likely a sliding scale using a complex mathematical formula (similar to the graphic below)

...

That is what I was trying to say. If the Corvette was small enough to fit into the landing bay of the Star Destroyer, few would want it, and the dice it throws would look very off. Instead they went with the scale of what looks good, if that is the scale you are using I think that the SSD can be included in the game. Maybe as a Epic or Huge unit I am fine with that, I just want one, and think it would look nice on the table.

Agreed. I want an Eclipse class too!

Regardless of size, people here would still buy it...and it would most likely hit the table at 9am saturday morning at Gencon and go until they turn the lights off sunday night for a massive battle of endor game.

Just saying...that'd be pretty cool

To add onto my point, I could see it in a scenario basis...nothing more for actual real game play. I would frankly treat it as an objective to destroy, give it a base dice pool and go from there. The goal being knock out shields to attack bridge to bring it down....outside of that I struggle to grasp what real game play it could bring.

It would bring what the ISD already brings to standard games: The biggest dice pools for the heaviest ship possible in the game, on the Empire side. Let's see an Ackbar list demolish this!

Apart from being ship heavyweight, it could be a cool asset to have in a campaign game. Maybe giving some strategic ability when it conquerors or occupies planets, in addition to passive buffs for the rest of the fleet. The only limitation I see for the SSD would be in making the ship too powerful for standard play, but apart from that there's no limitation on what an SSD could be capable of.

Though on the note of limitations, I still don't see how people can't rationalize that this is a game piece, and to feature in Armada it won't meet any expectations of overwhelming firepower to make MC80s vanish in one shot. FFG would not release a piece so broken. So when I expect an SSD to appear, it will have a balanced firepower spread that will appear disappointing to some, but satisfying for most, when it is deployed on the table.

I mean this game is FAR From simulating every gun on every ship ever. Or we'd be rolling more than one blue die for each proton torpedo fired out of an X-Wing squadron.

Good thing relative scales exist!

Ninja'd with my own Image!

Wave 3.5 will obviously only include the SSD. This will even out the number of ships each side can take. ;)

I could dig that, Rebels get a nebulon, we get a SSD

Sounds fair to me!

So what do the Rebels get...? Planetary Ion Cannon?

Malevolence?

Maybe a Bulwark Heavy Cruiser...

Eventually, in wave 4.5 ;)

I would like an SSD too, but it would have to have something like...

"When an unengaged enemy A-wing is at distance 1 of your rear hull zone, it may roll 3 blue dice. If it rolls 2 accuracy, you are destroyed."

"When an unengaged enemy A-wing is at distance 1 of your rear hull zone, it may roll 3 blue dice. If it rolls 2 accuracy, you are destroyed."

No, more like;

"When you are playing on the Death Star II playmat, you are destroyed."

Gotta keep things relevant to the most recent release.

BRING OUT YOUR DEAD!

Bring out your dead!

BRING out your DEAD!!!

Who care about necro threads? This list serves as a VERY important quarantine. Without it SSD debate would contaminate everything!

Maybe a negative point value title for Executor ? :P

Good God, can we please let this thread die already?

Dunno why everyone thinks SSD's won't happen, I installed two of 'em last night:

Personally I want either a SSD for Wave 3 or the Resurgent Class aka the Finalizer ( Cue the Anti Episode 7 response). I also think that the Finalizer would be a better choice than a SSD since it would have around the same amount of firepower and it could also function as a carrier due to the fact that they could carry two wings of regular Ties and special force Ties and it's also worth mentioning that it is believed to be superior to any warship the New Republic had. Making it the ultimate large scale ship for the Imperial forces.

But... I need something to block out the gaming table with. :(

I believe that we will see a SSD eventually but I feel that we'll see the Resurgent Class first to appease Emperor Mickey Mouse.

It's alive ! I think this would be great for epic play. :D

I am with all of you in that I would love to have the SSD in game... I feel it will come very much later in the game though... Would like to see more ISD class size ships though; the Strident, Nebula as examples...
