Now a too scale play mat would be cool!!

Like you have a battle over the ssd

(Man now I want a giant Picture of the executor)

Even if it isn't very playable, it will still sell like crazy and just sit as a display piece.

Seems like a lot of the argments for an Executor SSD revolve around "I want the model to display"

Surely there must be a way to get a nice big model of the Executor without trying to ram it into the Star Wars Armada game system.

Don't get me wrong, I love the look of it too and a model would be awesome - I just don't see it working with with Armada on the table.

So its actually over 9 inches then.

:P

There are 3 things holding back the SSD in Armada:

Size

Combat power

Rebel equivalent

Rebel equivalent: also a SSD, the Lusankya

My exact feelings. I want one but...

...I suck at building models. Well mayby just too lazy.

"You want us to do what with it?"

The funny thing is I can repeat that an ISD is 1,600m long and an Excutor SSD is 19,000m long and no one even looks at those numbers and responds.

Again, ISD 1,600m. SSD 19,000m! If the ISD is 12" in Armada then the SSD would be over 10'!

Should I repeat? No one wants to address this point. You can't ignore it.

I agree with Beatty's numbers.

Why would FFG make such an awesome game, release a ton of really cool minis for it, only to release a crummy looking SSD? It doesn't make sense.

I wish it were otherwise. I hope I am wrong.

If you are curious, here is why I agree with Beatty's numbers.

If a ship is supposed to be twice, the length in Canon / EU, the FFG mini is only about half again as long on the game table. These are approximates based on ships sizes seen in demo. This relationship appears to hold within a faction, but not between factions.

The SSD is 12 times the length of a VSD (19,000m / 900m ). That would suggest a SSD to relative scale would be 36" long.

Meters Inches 2 900 1.5 6 1800 9 3600 13.5 7200 20.25 14400 30.375 28800 45.5625

Also look at the Starship Battles minis. The bridge tower on the SSD looks tiny in comparison to the ISD. As I remember, the SB SSD tower is roughly one-fifth the size of the SB ISD tower.

It just looks bad.

EDIT: My table also just looks bad :/

Damned Imperial lobbies.

Let me spin this on its head. What if FFG does not make a SSD.

I know it hurts. But just for the sake of argument. Because the next logical question becomes: How are we going to represent and use the SSD in game?

To do that, we need to build our own SSD. I suggest it should be all or most of a table. Instead of a Trench Run table, we can build SSD run tables. Yeah, that would be a huge project. Instead, how about an image printed on a vinyl playmat?

Other ideas?

I could see a 6x3 playmat with a top down view of an SSD printed on it happening. At the very least, we'll see some fan made ones. Isn't that pretty close to scale appropriate too? Doesn't mess anything up movement wise as all ships would just fight on top of it rather than around it. Maybe to make things interesting you could come up with a "cripple the SSD" scenario and make some rules up concerning the SSD's turbolasers, and points the Rebel fleet can attack. Maybe even the opportunity to ram the bridge area with a starfighter squadron once shields are down, lol.

Its only one ship. Its not like the New Republic was fielding a small fleet of them. Also, being a bit nit picky, but it isn't canon now.

Beatty, the SSD was part of the Star Wars Starship miniatures battle Game( SSB) (as was the Viscount). Should FFG choose to include these starships in Armada they will not be to scale compared to any of the other mini's. why you keep bringing up the "it would be to big for the table" thing is beyond me.

as for more than 4 "sides" I could see the ship having a Forward, Port, Starboard, Aft, and Core stats. so if the SSD has a hull rating of 40 with 43 shields it could break down as follows:

forward arc = 8xhull and 9xshields, Amidships (port and starboard) arc's = 8xhull and 9xshields, core arc would = 8xhull and 9shields (all weapons in this arc would be turret (360*) arc), aft would = 8xhull and 7xshields.

this is the current idea I am working with to create a ship card for my SSD from SSB that I have until FFG decides to release an SSD mini.

I would say the Lego SSD model if you could find one for less than $800... Was very dissapointed that it was discontinued in North America without any warning. To those of you not hit by this yet, it's coming for you too O.o

ok so , lets look at this from a different angle here. the Exstar is going to be Very expensive game points wise. a ship that is 12 Impstar's long represents a huge amount of resources. you could probably build at least 30 Impstar's with what it takes to build an Exstar. if Impstar's cost 120 points then the Exstar is more than a 300 point game will allow. you would probably be looking at 1000 point games in order to use it.

LOL. I have said my peace and am done with this crazy topic.... for now.

For now let's forget our differences on this topic and enjoy wave I and II when they comeout.

Sounds like a plan, I just love how this topic can drive 83 posts in less than 48 hours, and that's without counting all the "Tarkin Doctrined" threads in the rest of the forum. We need the game already so we can discuss tactics instead of SSDs :P

I love large games. 1000 points would be awesome!

Whenever I play x wing its usually 300 points or more.

How many points would it be to recreate the Battle of Endor.......?

100,000

100,000

Yeah, that DSII will run up those point costs.

Good thing I hear wave 3 will be nothing but the Battle of Endor starter pack and collectors edition. The starter pack is an absolute steal at $29,000 WITH the Imperial Super Star Destroyer (cat's out of the bag now naysayers), and the collectors edition comes with it's own to scale inflatable Forest Moon of Endor! Rumor has it there may even be a tie-in with an Imperial Assault and X-Wing campaign...

Edit: I have just been informed that shipping is only included for for North American Amazon Prime members. The rest of you had better start looking at what shipping containers cost to haul or for that matter purchase outright as a storage option.

Does it include the death star 2?

Some assembly required, shield generator sold separately. Power converters not included.

I want it,

(I wonder how much my housse will sell for?)
