Played with my new FFG Death Star play mat.

i got those non slip things for coasters. There small and round and sticky on one side. My wife makes coasters for charites, and I grabbed some and put them on my corners underneath, the mat doesn't slide at all now. However, the surface is a little slippy.

I don't see the rounded corners as a problem at all. Just treat it as though the play area extends all the way to the corners. If you need to check if a ship has fled, place a range ruler flush with the edge.

If you're in a corner to start with, you'll soon be out of it. If you get yourself into a corner during play, you're probably going to fly off anyway.

The slipperiness is the real issue for me.

I agree. I can only think of one maneuver where the rounded corner would come into play: doing a k-turn. But you'd have to be almost exactly lined up with the edge of the map and land the turn perfectly in the corner. Otherwise, any other time you're in the corner close enough for it to matter you're going to end up out of bounds anyways.

I just started playing a couple of months ago. Our FLGS has the standard plastic tables which are prone to slippage.

So I went to WalMart and bought a $4 piece of felt. It works well and reduces the slippage.

But I really want a fancy, printed mat. So I looked around and realized they'd all probably slip a bit. Hit up Amazon and found a $24 yoga mat - 36" x 84". I plan on cutting it in half and using it. My friend also bought one and we played on it the other night. So far it's perfect. No slippage, covers the gap with two tables (it's 1/4" think) and does great. It's just not pretty. I can live with it.

Also I backed the greenman kickstarter and that will include a bunch of non-slip bases for small and large ships. I'll see how those goes when they arrive in a few months.

Does anyone who has both FFG mats have an opinion on what they look like pushed together? I am thinking of buying both for Armada, obviously there might be a slight line between the two but just how bad would this be?

Y'all are plain crazy if you think the ffg mat is as slippery as a Vaseline dipped pig on a hot day in July. I've played on the mat and its a great buy. If your ships are slipping, either get precise with your fat fingers, or stop playing on a fishing ship in the middle of a nor'easter off Nantucket.

Mat has zero issues. Period.

Btw, how do the official FFG mats stow? Do they just roll up? If yes, how easily do they do so and do they then stay flat after unrolling?

Thanks.

I own both of FFG's mats and they look awesome together. These mats don't suck at all. I was happy with the Gale Force 9 mats and the FFG's mats are even better. Sure there is some slipperiness to them but that's fine. They look awesome and roll out great onto a table. Great Buy!
