What ships do you *really* only need one of?

By SPECPOL, in X-Wing

The only ship that you only need one of is the Senator's shuttle.

:D

I would dispute this but can't come up with a good argument.

+1 Everything Khyros said...

Maybe consider buying a few of the key ships and borrowing some from local players until you get a feel for what kind of lists you want to start running. That could save you from buying 3-5 Z-95s when you really want a 4x Blue Squadron setup or vice versa.

E-wing without a doubt you'll only fly one named in any list and never generics.

1 Imperial Aces (every named pilot but Carnor sucks a fat one, but the ...

Not true! Lorrir & Kir Kanos are both very interesting, and useful, once you know how to pilot an interceptor without the push the limit crutch/limitation. Tetran Cowall I don't know, i've never flown him, because I rarely K-turn with an interceptor.

Or you could fly 3 Blackmoons with R7 and FCS.

The guy is not looking for lists he could fly... He's looking for what he can get lots of mileage out of by buying multiple copies of a single ship. You COULD run 3 YT-1300's in a list, and there's even a name for it, but that doesn't really justify purchasing the 3rd YT-1300 just so you could do that one list on a whim. On the otherhand, only having one Z95 or TIE fighter is going to cripple the number and types of lists that he can build, since ____ + mini-swarm is a common build type with LOTS of variation.

Well there's also flechette torpedoes, advanced sensors, and R7s in there. The first two can be very useful in multiples with the R7s being somewhat useful.

I envy you people and your self control. I have to buy enough stuff to run every list conceivable and in actuality I only run a 1/3 of them. I guess I'm the perfect customer lol

I do the same thing then i go and buy extra ships for my tournament fees or better yet my wife picks me up one at barnes & noble.

Starviper,, Since all I wanted it for was the Autothrusters cards. LOL.

Someone else posted this earlier but not one but two of the Core.

It is a much better value for what you get. Extra dice (which you'll need), tokens, templates etc... and compared to the price of expansions, again worth the month.

Yes you'll still want 1 x X-Wing and 1 x TIE Fighter (Howl Runner is awesome) but two cores is a definite must in the list for most people.

Don't forget with the core packs: you will have two damage decks for playing with friends who don't own the game, or when you inevitably lose one of your cards at a tourney or a friend's place.

Sounds like you run an astronomical number of lists. Surely you've played millions of games by now...

To answer the OP, the only 3 ships I have 1 of are the HWK, the YT1300, and the Defender.

Tantive - because aside from C-3PO, how many models of that awesome bird do you need sitting on a bookshelf?

I think he meant he runs 1/3 of the ships, not 1/3 of every possible list :D

Anyway I know the feeling. Can't seem to recall playing a game with 6 Xs, 7Bs and 8 A-wings before and yet I have them all. Not so much on the recent ships since I stopped buying them second hand ... for a while that was the fastest way to start the game and sometimes you end up with more than you need lol!

You know the struggle brother

none,

you must have as many of everything as you can afford, then a couple more.............just don't tell your wife and im sure your kids wont ask where the college fund went.......

Yeah, I can run the max amount of any one ship in a 100 point list. 3 Defenders, 3 E Wings, 8 TIE Fighters, 6 Bombers, etc. Only things I can't run are more than two HWKs, more than 2 Lambdas, and more than 5 M3-A's. I even have 2 Imperial Aces boxes, and then 5 individual TIE Interceptor expansions in order to run 5x Alpha or Avenger. I used to be able to run 8 rebel z's but after getting 3 most wanted packs I traded my 8th rebel Z for a 7th scum Z.

I'm flying 3 generic Falcons each with an Intel agent, navigator, and anti pursuit lasers. I have a thing for flying obnoxious lists.

...

YT-1300 - There's only 1 Falcon

THIS!!!! Can't like it enough.

This is how i feel in my heart...just not in my wallet...

I did start selling plasma when i got into it the first time...i may have to again...

Not counting other way to get more of the same ship type (like aces packs), I've only bought 3 ships twice.

1) Firespray - Because it's my favorite ship and I love running dual firespray builds, especially with scum now

2) Tie Defender - I was hoping predator would come out with another ship by now, but alas, is not the case, and it's too good a card to only have one copy of.

3) Tie Phantom - Again for the card, I wanted a second tactician, and it's the only ship that has it.

For as much as I love X-WING EPIC, as long as you take good care of your paper goodies, you only need one of each Huge Ship.

Unless or course you want to have bigger super cool battles.

In which case you might want to just go ARMADA!

I think ship-wise I recommend only 1 of these if you aren't running scum:

YT-1300 - Dual Falcon lists exist, but there aren't a ton

YT-2400 - Same as above, coupled with the Outrider title being unique

Y-Wing - you'll only run one as an ion turret platform or for a lark. You might want 2 with the BTL-A4 title, but if you decide to do that, Most Wanted gives you your second one.

HWK-290 - just to play around with, and Jan is kind of popular

E-Wing - You'll only run one of the named ones.

VT-49 - Expensive both in dollars and points

Lambda - lists (and people) that run multiple lambdas well are rare

Firespray - iffy on this one. Multiple Firesprays have been popular, but there aren't a ton of non-scum lists with more than 1 currently.

Defender - Expensive in points and you'll probably only want to run named ones, of which there are only 2

Phantom - Expensive in points. There are multi phantom lists, but it is definitely better to start at 1 and see if you like them.

TIE Adv - They aren't that good, and if you buy the Raider to get the cards that fix it, you'll end up with a second.

Ships I would want more than 2 of would be:

A-Wing - 3

B-Wing - 3

X-Wing - 3

TIE/F - 5

Z-95 - 3-4

I personally would buy 0 TIE Bombers.

And I would say 1 StarViper for Autothrusters if you care about buying to get cards.

It depends on what you feel is necessary 300pt games is my normal game size and I'm perfectly happy having one of most ships (I have multiples of ties, interceptors, x-wings, a-wings and b-wings from extra core sets and aces packs). I don't feel much need to run four tie bomber lists or space cows or some other weird load outs as I can have plenty of fun and variety with what I have. I'm not a dual aggressor's kinda guy Scum has plenty of other good ships to fill up the lists it might be fun to run four aggressors once but I don't think its something i just need to do. Just get what you like and make it work.

If i had just (for some insane reason) sold off all my x-wing stuff and was trying to get my fix id probably jump onto the Armada train at this point. I have to admit that wave two box of all the scum and bounty hunter ships having over two x-wing waves worth of goodies in one expansion box and the ISD has me jelly.

My general policy is to only buy one of a thing unless I have an actual need for a second, or I need to spend some tournament-store-credit and end up getting something I already have. Things that I'm happy I have multiples of (that I've actually flown):

TIE Defenders

...and that's it. There have been times I've wanted to do a TF mini-swarm, but haven't since I've only got three of them. That's neither often nor recent.

So I'd say stick with 1x of each, and explore that space for a while. I've got spare Phantoms, TIs, TBs, and Zs that are pretty much a waste of perfectly good tacklebox real estate.

I even have 4 Phantoms. Dat 4x Sigma.

A dual Scum Firespray list didn't kill one off in the first engagement, so he lost one of his Firesprays in a single volley. :D

I have two E wings and will probably acquire a third, but I'm strange like that.

I like to have multiples of most small base ships, except phantoms because I don't want to encourage people.
