Two websites

By stuh42asl, in Star Wars: Armada

I work in the Logistics branch, so it would make sense to have two websites

A non www site for North America

And a WWW site for the rest.

The shipping info on each is different due to the different transport, shipping and delivery deadlines.

Would make perfect sense to have the two sites and have two different sets of deadlines.

I have been doing this for almost 16 years, and it is a nightmare to schedule, procure shipping companies, and ensure proper shipping information and deadlines are reached. So the deadlines in the www website could very well be the shipping information for deliveries to Europe and beyond.

And add into the mix;strikes by unions, and delayed deliveries by ship and trucks and it is a nightmare to provide accurate delivery info.

I don't think that's the case. Why would people from North America be funneled to the www side, and... are they?

I'm guessing it has more to do with mobile phones. My cell phone goes to the www side, where it says that Armada is 'shipping now', whereas my laptop goes to the www side, which says that it's still 'on the boat'.

EDIT: the www version is now also saying 'Shipping Now', with the expected date being 3/27.

Thank you sir got telling us this. I can understand your frustration with the current setup. I do enjoy hearing the developers side instead of just wondering what in the world are they doing.

That being said, I am learning that FFG does produce quality games, so as a customer I am happy to overlook a few quirks and inconvieniences and just enjoy the product when it is finally in my hands.

Thanks for this information and all your hard work.

I don't think so, given that the www. site is where you're sent to by default, even in North America. And sites that are meant for mobile phones are usually preceded by 'm.', so I don't think that's an explanation, either. One possibility is that FFG uses the different domains for A/B switching. That is, changes are initially surfaced on the non-www. site, where they can be tested. When they are given the green light, the content is switched over to the full production site. Additionally, there is very likely more than one server behind a load balancer, and so it's likely that while the production site is being updated, there will be instances where some people will see the changes, and others won't. That, and possibly local browser caching, would explain why some people were seeing changes on the www. site, and others were not.
