spawning and moving behind closed doors

By Shmoozer, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Another question involving doors!

When revealing a new room we use the LOS rule, meaning that placed monsters as shown on the map for revealing will only be placed as soon as the heroes actually have LOS to it. (We do the same for everything in the room, such as potions/chests/etc, i assume that is according to the rules?)

Now i wonder what happens if the heroes close the door?
Ofcourse i won't place the rest as they haven't seen them, but what about moving all the monsters and showing it to the heroes?

1) Do i have to show the movement of the monsters even if they don't have LOS to them?
2) And what about those that i haven't revealed yet? can i move them "invisible" (as in, i remember where they go?)
3) what about spawning in a re-closed room? do put the monsters on the map? (i assume the answer to this is yes)

The most fun would be to not show the monster movement for invisible monsters (or even the already visible ones), as the heroes can be really surprised when they re-open the door (or if i open it with a monster).

What are the rules and ideas on this?

The rules are that you setup the room completely as soon as a hero has LoS to one space of the room.

What you do is an optional rule I so far knew only from the German version - which leads to the trouble you mentioned. Invisible movement? Not for me. Movement of monsters which were not placed yet? Not for me also.

Regarding your questions, only number 3 is clear: If you spawn, you have to place all monsters and show their movement, regardless of closed doors or whatever blocks LoS.

The idea of only being able to see monsters you have LoS to has a certain appeal, but it's a logistical nightmare to keep track of, when you're moving them around and don't have the board to keep them on for record keeping. And writing it down on a hidden notepad on the side would be an annoying time suck for the game.

Oke, that sounds clear and it will help ease up the game(play) indeed.

I thought i read somewhere that even when revealing a new room, you do it according to LOS.
But as you clearly point out, everything must be placed right away (and we will do so from now on to not deviate from the game mechanics). p.s. We have a "normal" english version, so nothing out of the ordidary here.
