I'd be surprised to see it in May... let alone March.

I have asked the shop if they have stock already in hand and that I would receive the the Raider in early April if I do a pre-order for it.

Let's see what response I get.

I would say like two old-school naval galleons pounding away at each other with broadsides, but it seems as though the Raider wants to fly straight at it's foe...

But the old-school galleons didn't have fighter support (CAP or otherwise). This may be closer to WWII. The Epic ships could, but not necessarily duke it out. It depends on the the type of Epic ship (build wise) and fighter support.

If you build your fighter squads for cover, assault, both (most likely) and also where you start. If you put the big guns (Turbo Lasers) on your Epic ship then you want to go head to head with other Epic and pray your fighters take care of everything else. If you take all Quad Lasers maybe you want fighter bombers or just bombers. Or your Epic ship could have a mixture as most probably will.

Imagine a Raider decked out with Turbo Lasers, designed to kill large and other Huge ships. But now your interceptors are more important than ever and you want to face off as quickly as possibly.

I love the flavor allowed to us in this.

I wonder how many folks on here are in grad school or have gone to grad school. I feel like I've seen people mention things like "dissertation", "quals", "thesis", etc., more commonly than most game forums I've frequented over the years. There's also a certain writing and argument style for those kinds of people. When you've been there, you notice things like that. I finished up a few years ago.

I proxied the X1 cards the other day and my friends hate me so much right now. (I killed everyone with darth vader X1 EU ATC pred).

Dang. I got excited for a minute. It's probably May at the earliest. I do have mine pre-ordered with Xmas loot. I'm very eager to fly a lot of Tie Advanced. Still need to pick one up, though.

For those that hate on the Raider to get the fix, I say try Epic. It's actually a lot of fun to play some non-tournament games. I found it's cool b/c it's the same game...but not. It's great to break out of the norm and routine.

Time isn't too a-plenty in grad school either. For me the change was almost entirely monetary.

Release next Friday? No preview in nearly 3 months... yeah seems legit.

It's the same game only better; it's Star Wars as it should be with fighters zipping in and around big ships taking down ships much larger and risking getting one shot at any moment.

What you're saying is you won't buy the Raider for the Advanced upgrades only on principle, which is completely sensible. Spending £70 odd on a TIE/x1 title is silly.

Not buying the Raider when you want the Raider because it's got a TIE advanced you also want packaged in it, that'll be silly.

You didn't expect this to happen? Take a look at the CR-90 and C-3P0/R2-D2. Granted the falcon wasn't broken like the tie advanced, but it was still an upgrade card that made a ship a TON better and only found on an epic ship. I do not own the CR-90....yet, but plan on getting the Raider both because it looks really cool and for the tie advanced cards.

I got the CR90 on it's own merits because big ships are cool.

I got the GR75 on it's own merits because big targets are fun to kill.

I'll get the raider on it's own merits as dammit i want a command ship!

I want the Raider because it not only fixes the Advanced, and adds Tarkin, Needa and holy crap EMPEROR PALPATINE to the game, but it'll also finally let me get some awesome epic battles. The Raider should maul the current Rebel small ships, but will not be as good in a one-on-one slugfest as the CR90. Doesn't have the same range, and its reliance on multiple attacks over more red dice means the CR90's reinforce action will provide more mitigation.

Plus, the addition of Ion Batteries will help the CR90 deal with small fighters better than the Single Turbolaser.

I'm buying the Raider for the crew cards and the TIE Advanced. I absolutely cannot wait to fly Vader in a competent craft. I've defected temporarily from the Empire in the wake of scum. But once Vader is able to finally be the threat he should be on the table, I will once again be singing the Imperial March. Oh and I won't lie, the Raider is pretty cool looking.

I think when I get a Raider, I'm gonna bring it to my Tuesday group without telling them. And then just fly a fat raider against as many points as they can muster.
