Liberty Class MC80 (The one with wings)

By JJs Juggernaut, in Star Wars: Armada

I know this has been mentioned in several threads, but I wanted to put up an official thread to hear peoples' opinions on the matter (and possibly to show FFG forum spooks the interest in this matter).

Do you think FFG will release a Liberty Class (the one with wings) MC80 at some point in the future?

Do you want them to release one? And when would you want them to release it (ie, which wave)?

Personally I've always liked the Liberty class better than the Home One style, and I hoped it would be the first MC80 released. However, I understand that the Home One variant is more iconic and thus why it is in wave 2. I hope to see a Liberty class in wave 3, but I think that's a little optimistic. IMO wave 4-5 is a better guess.

I want to see Liberty in the next wave. The ship is still iconic in it's own right being the first ship ever shot with the Death Star laser. I want to fly one around the board and go toe to toe with star destroyers of any kind.

For the spooks:

Yes, I want to see it.

Many Bothans agree with this position.

I would revel in the destruction of the Rebellion, each time I destroy one with merciless barrages of turbolasers.

Reading the description on wookiepedia, it sounds like it could be different enough to be its own ship. Better shields, better squadron value, whereas the Liberty type has better armor and guns. Visually distinct from the "standard" MC80, which is important for a miniatures game.

Would the Imperials then get the Tector class? It would have a 0 squadron rating but more hull and weapons. It might look too similar, though. What else is in the same league for the Imperials?

I'd suspect yes as it is both different enough in appearance and could be made unique enough in game.

I thought there was a Liberty card shown in the preview for the MC80?

I hope there was no Liberty cards shown, as that might suggest they aren't planning on a separate model release. I guess we may have to wait for the soon upcoming (I hope) Wave 2 announcement.

Sure I want! For me the 2 titles card of the MC80 of wave 2 are "Home One" and "Independance", the 2 most iconics Home One type.

It will be a big mistake to not make the Liberty type MC80

I would love to see another Mon Cal Cruiser variant. Part of the awesomeness that is Mon Cal design is that every ship is unique.

It would be very lazy of FFG to combine the two different ships into one model. It doesn't seem like FFG is lazy, or that short sighted.

That said, if they did combine them, I see a great opportunity for a shape ways modeller to make the actual model to go with the card.

I would expect one and a whole lot more. I've been too focused on the fact that the small fighters and ships are unpainted and of lower quality. It's obvious the caps are the stars of the show and the small ships can still pack a punch for game play. The community seems pretty accepting of the Imperial Raider so you can assume it would accept the EU of capital ships that are out there.

There was talk early on that Armada was potentially more of a niche game since it's "more advanced" than X-Wing and games are expected to take twice as long as an X-Wing game. More and more I'm starting to think this game is going to be very successful. I'm already planning to have massive scale battles (1000-1200pt games). If my buddies can play through about 8 hours of Axis and Allies they can definitely play a massive scale game of Armada.

I don't think we'll see one personally, though i would like to. The easy test will be whether there really is a Liberty title in the MC80 expansion....if there is, we absolutely will not be seeing one.

I hope we get one, but maybe wave 4 or beyond.

The Liberty was a distinct ship from Home One. If I recall correctly that class of ships had fewer guns than Home One, and was a bit smaller , so it could fill the role of a slightly less beefy capital ship later on. (Like a Victory compared to an ISD, except not quite as drastic).

I would revel in the destruction of the Rebellion, each time I destroy one with merciless barrages of turbolasers.

:D

I will have to bring one now just to watch you say "You sank my Star Destroyer!" and weep shameful tears. :D

I have a feeling we will see many ships for this game. It hasn't even hit the shelf yet so hang on and wait lol.

Dude, that's just mean.

But clontroper5 is right. We got more where they came from.

I know this topic is about the Liberty Class MC80, but what other large (distinctively different) ships does the empire have from ISDs?

As I'm drawing blanks, I'm really starting to think that we will definitely see Dreadnaughts and Interdictor class star destroyers.

There is always the Chiss Star Destroyers

Definitely want to see a Liberty class eventually.

However, not for wave 3. I would prefer wave 3 to bring us more medium and small ships. Especially the Dreadnaught. It could be released as the first multi-faction ship.

We definitely need this ship in Armada, my friend. The Imperial Navy is always in need of more targets for gunnery practise!

I am completely in agreement with you here -it truly is an iconic ship, regardless of the fate it met. ;)
