BTL-A4 title and a turret upgrade.

By rym, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I've wondered this for awhile now, and I'm not sure how these two cards interact, or which would take preference over the other, so I thought I'd ask here.

The Y-Wings BTL-A4 title card say, "you cannot attack ships outside your firing arc. After you perform a primary weapon attack, you may immediately perform a secondary weapon attack'.

Turret weapons (Ion Cannon, Autoblaster, Blaster) say, "Attack 1 ship (even a ship outside your firing arc)."

So the question again, how do these two cards interact with each other? I mean, I understand I can fire with a turret weapon after the primary weapon attack, but can I fire the turret outside my arc or not?

Thanks in advance.

The title card gives you the ability to perform a second attack with an equipped turret upgrade. The title card also restricts all of your attacks to inside your firing arc. A turret equipped to a BTLA4 loses the ability to attack outside the firing arc.

Typically, if a card specifically forbids something from happening, that overrules something that would allow something to happen, which in turn overrules how the game is normally played.

Another example:

Wedge has an R2 Astromech and a Damaged Engine (critical damage). His 2 turns are Red.

Not exactly an equivalent example, as that's more to do with the rule that effects that make maneuvers more difficult override those that make them less difficult. But the first sentence is still true.

Couldn't think of an exact cognate, so I threw out a similar one :)

Thanks for the quick response(s). That was my initial intuition, but just wanted to make sure.

Rulebook page 20:

If one card ability forbids an effect, while another ability allows it, the effect is forbidden.

Push the Limit: After performing an action, you may perform one free action on your action bar.

Damaged Sensor Array: You may not perform actions on your action bar.

Damaged Sensor Array wins.

Other examples would be Carnor Jax vs. Ysanne Isard, or Sensor Jammer vs. Predator.

Of course, if your first action was to clear of Damaged Sensor Array, you could trigger PtL off of that... :)

True enough. But the purpose of the example was to show conflicting can/can't examples, and if one of the effects is gone, it's not exactly conflicting any more ;)
