Scum and Villainy Podcast Interview Series: Major Juggler

By Kelvan, in X-Wing

Kelvan, Sozin, and special guest host Dom Cairo interview Major Juggler aka Bob Randall. Juggle tells us about his gaming history. He covers the creation of his Xwing math baby, the xwing jousting values. We learn about which Scum ship stands out as valuable. Finally we cover the extreme ends of the value spectrum with the Xwing and Phantom.

Enjoy!

Thanks again for having me on!

I so wished I could be in on this one. On the plus side, I get to enjoy it with everyone else.

Let me know if you ever want to interview a random nobody from Japan ;)

Bob was a very good guess and there was a lot to be learned. We probably could go another hour with him easy.

I'm not entirely sure who our next Interview Series will be with. Alex and Frank have volunteered to be on again sometime mid year. Who would you like to see?

Excellent episode, guys.

As you said before we started recording... for most people that are really into the game, it is very easy to get people talking about X-wing for an hour!

We're pretty fond of him and were happy to loan him out! Looking forward to hearing his interview, material I DID NOT have to edit... Love ya MJ!

We talk about Kinetic Operator all the time, we need to have him come on and talk about squad building.

I find Alex Davy is an entertaining guest, very well spoken and humorous.

That is a grand idea.

It would be great to talk to Alex again, but I think we might wait until there's some wave 7 spoilers to grill him on :)

2 days in a row of my favory X-wing podcasts?! I'm spoiled.

Another great episode and I would strongly encourage those in the "don't math out my childhood!" camp to give it a listen. If only to prove that Mathwing isn't and was never meant to be the whole story when deciding what ships to take competitively.

The only missed opportunity was glossing over the 86 or 87 point dual phantom squads. Yes phantoms are powerful, but that's already known and well documented. What that list is really about is MoV preservation. Even if you lose one phantom, you've only lost 40ish points. Two phantoms can easily kill more than 40ish points before one drops. So the only way to reliably beat this list is to kill both. The reason for not taking a TIE fighter to push it closer to 100 is that if you've lost both phantoms, it's unlikely that a TIE would be the difference maker in the game. The single TIE ends up being an MoV liability.

This isn't a particularly difficult concept, but for some newer players it may be baffling at first glance.

Anyway, thanks again for keeping the content rolling, and I eagerly await the next one.

I agree Sekac although i still believe 80 points should not have a winning record through the end of the day at most points.

Great podcast! I hadn't listened to any of these podcasts until now, and now I have the urge to listen to all the older ones as well.

Oh I agree. It's certainly not THE list, and way too unforgiving to be reliable. I just wanted to highlight the reasoning behind it.

You should interview me so people can get the freshness of the other side of this community.

;)

I'm relieved to find out that ICT Y-Wings suck from a mathematical perspective.

It won't stop me flying them because I love them - but now when I suffer yet another crushing defeat with them I can just blame the math rather than my abilities as a pilot (because I'm obviously awesome in that respect ;) )

The guy who flew that list is also pretty key for that win record. I have never lost a game of X-wing as bad as my one game against him. I didn't roll any red dice.

What were you flying?

Great Episode!

Gavin Norman is incredibly good at Xwing.
