Having played both, the minis for the lieutenants in D2E were never included in the expansions... you had to buy them separately, otherwise you played with the tokens. This is the same with villains in IA, so people should stop using D2E as a justification for why Twin Shadows should include the Boba Fett mini.
Don't put Boba Fett on the box if Boba Fett is not in the box.
Given a general understanding that any product cover should be a representation of the product inside, and the fact that every single Descent 2E expansion included miniatures of the prominent figures displayed on their cover art...
Apparently this is how it works in D2e as well, based on the above post from Solmed411. Also the art is a representation of what comes inside, because you do have a Boba Fett deployment card, and everything else you need to use him in the campaign.
What people are complaining about here is no different than someone complaining that they don't get everything in the collectors edition that they do in the base edition.
You are missing nothing you need you are only missing something that you want, because it's nicer than what comes in the box.
If you believe Fett should be included, because he's on the box, have you contacted Kellogg's to let them know you're still waiting for your Toucan that should have been in your box of Froot Loops?

Yep, you're right. Labyrinth of Ruin for instance had the picture of a lieutenant on its box and it wasn't included as a miniature in the game.
Since some people claim that IA was spawned from D2e, I think it's fair to say that they also expanded the potential milking options. For starters, the Skirmish mode included as a "bonus" to the base game while coincidently also adding $20 to the price tag compared to D2e's base game.
It's nice to have a bunch of stuff reused, but personally I don't care about this mode. So I'll be forced to pay for all those Skirmish mode packs just to have my Campaign mode miniatures set complete. Smart move FFG.
Also in case of Star Wars, we're talking about iconic figures here, not some random <insert goon's name here> you see in D2e. But yes you're right, the milking started before already when they released D2e back in 2012.
FFG is starting to remind me of Games Workshop, and that's not a compliment.
Edited by GridashIt's micro-transactions if you will brought to the board game world.
I've been saying this for the better part of a year now. I think they've successfully found a way to bridge that gap and bring 'micro-transactions' into the board gaming world.
The majority of their self proclaimed "best selling", "most popular", etc properties have adopted this model: Descent, Battlelore, X-Wing, Imperial Assault, Armada, etc.. You could even include the in-house printed Mansions of Madness expansions and all of their LCGS in there too. When consumers are accustomed to $50-99 base games they will eat up $10-15 expansions, even when they drop 5+ of them at the same time.
Yep, IA's basegame came with 7 different packaged products in just a few months. Assuming you'll buy ONLY one of them each and added together with the base game, your wallet will be $187.6 lighter.
Now, people are already getting the base game twice and stuff just so they can play the skirmish game properly.
So that's $287.55.
This is just the basegame and addons people.
But oh praise FFG for giving us all of this support.
It's ironic that computer games are becoming the cheap kind of games compared to this. It used to be the other way around.
Edited by GridashAnd the people who only play the skirmish mode, can buy just the Boba Fett model and not have to buy the campaign box which does nothing for them. That saves them $40...
I'm not so sure about this. I would imagine the skirmish maps for these figures will require tiles from the Twin Shadows expansion. The problem is that everyone is describing these figures as 'Wave 2', and they're not. These are supplement figures for an expansion. The announcement article even refers to them in this way in several places: "Journey to Tatooine and engage in fast-paced skirmishes with these new Twin Shadows figure packs !"
A true 'Wave 2' will include more than three figure packs and only require the base game tiles for the skirmish maps.
I hope I'm actually wrong though and that the skirmish maps in the Twin Shadows packs don't require the tiles from the expansion. If they do, then there's really no reason these weren't included in the box other than being a money grab...
Regardless...
Also, all of this argument about scaring people away from the game because a miniature is not included in the box is absurd. The assumption that someone will buy this simply because they assume there's a miniature inside based solely on the cover art deserves to be disappointed.
Let's be realistic. Anyone that sees this box on the shelf, that doesn't already know what it is, is going to PICK IT UP AND LOOK AT THE BACK . I guarantee it will be quite apparent that a Boba Fett miniature is not included. I'm confident there will be an image of the figure pack(s) and a note about being available separately; in the exact same way the base game shows the Vader/Luke packs being included .
The argurment that "THIS IS A MINIATURES GAME AND IT SHOULD INCLUDE ALL OF THE MINIATURES DEPICTED IN THE ART OTHERWISE IT'S MISLEADING/FALSE ADVERTISING/ETC!" is equally absurd.
Yes, this is classified as a miniatures game within FFGs website categories but it specifically describes it ON THE BOX as "..a strategy board game of tactical combat and missions.."
But oh praise FFG for giving us all of this support.
Then stop buying it... Either the price they charge and the stuff the offer is a good value or else it's not. If I felt like you do, I'd never buy another item from FFG, because I won't do business with a company that's trying to milk me.
I'm not so sure about this. I would imagine the skirmish maps for these figures will require tiles from the Twin Shadows expansion.
You'll need the Twin Shadows expansion to play the skirmish maps. But you don't need it if all you're doing is putting Boba Fett into your Skirmish list and playing the standard maps. The maps that come with Twin Shadows are currently not tournament legal and may never become so.
So no you don't actually need the Twin Shadows pack to use Boba Fett in a skirmish game.
I hope I'm actually wrong though and that the skirmish maps in the Twin Shadows packs don't require the tiles from the expansion.
If as you say, these packs are just expansions of the Twin Shadows box, then it makes sense they'd include things that require the Twin Shadows box. I'd hardly call that a money grab though.
Not sure why anyone would find a product that encourages you to buy other products from the same company is somehow out of line or even odd.
When you buy expansion packs, you're not buying a complete game, you're buying add-on's to an existing game. So naturally you need have bought the game.
Does anyone think there's something wrong with needing the core set to use the skirmish missions that come with the Rebel Troopers expansion pack?
Edited by VanorDMI understand what everyone is saying here, but really would you go out and buy an expansion pack with a random, named stormtrooper in it? How about an extra hero? The die hard semi collectors might, but many people wouldn't. Boba Fett however will sell out faster than a gold Mario Amiibo.
Also this is the same setup that the LOTR LCG runs with. To use the new cycle you need the new expansion set. The new expansion set is based on the core set , so you need that too. This really is not anything new, or surprising really.
Another title by another game company called Clash of Cultures enflamed many of its fans because of the box art.
The cover art depicted war elephants, shogun cavalry and pikemen. But none of these units were in the base game.
I understand what everyone is saying here, but really would you go out and buy an expansion pack with a random, named stormtrooper in it? How about an extra hero?
Someone, in this thread maybe, posted a picture they photoshopped the male hero on the cover art instead of Boba. That would IMO sell nearly as well if not as well.
This isn't a game after all, it's an expansion. Die Hard collectors aren't who this is marketed for, it's marketed for people who already own Imperial Assault, or people may be interested in it. The cover art may make it stand out. But I doubt many people are going to buy it simply because it has Boba Fett on the cover.

And if you believe that, I've got a bridge to sell you!
And if you believe that, I've got a bridge to sell you!
I think what I said was clear enough.
Right now they're not tournament legal. They may or may not become tournament legal latter on, but based on how they're setting things up, it won't happen during this 'season'. Odds are they will become tournament legal down the road.

This really brings up an entirely new discussion.
When I first bought the game I saw the cover art which included 3 heroes, 9 troopers and Vader, all of which were included within the box and I thought they made a good job.
I really wouldn't mind Boba Fett being sold separately but this is one of those actions that will put a frown on faces rather than a smile... and eventually reduce sales. Two reasons:
* If someone gets baited thinking the box includes Boba Fett, comes home and discovers that leaflet which says "buy Boba Fett separately for $10", he/she will probably never buy the franchise again.
* People will probably tend to buy Boba Fett blister rather than the whole thing. A box needs to include some shiny characters in order to make people spend $40.
there are about 12-13 stormtroopers on the box
I already used up all my "shut up and take my money"s for Forbidden Stars.
I think they should have included a Boba Fett Figure of him blasting off with his rocketpack, AND made another Boba Fett figure (with diffrent cards) as a character pack. (so you don't have to buy the box to get Boba)
Wouldn't that be awesome? Two Boba's Ah. Ah. Ah!
Any way you look at, we are getting Fett before Leia or Tarkin, so can't be much room for complaints. Where is my Tatooone bounty hunter Greedo?
slumped over a cantina table with a smoking hole in his chest.
It'd be great if he was in the box. He's not. If he was then the retail price would probably go up $10.
Personally it's not an end of the world issue that warrants me wailing and gnashing my teeth. At this point I've seen this topic in so many places that the signal to noise ratio is lower than an ewok's diaper. I now only see this in my head when this topic appears.
Box art or no, I just can't feign surprise at this with how they handled the core set ally/villain packs. And he'll be playable (as a token unfortunately) so they're in a defensible position. The market will dictate if this was a wise move or not. Somehow I doubt that this "issue" will significantly impact sales though. This is the same as the Descent product strategy from what I've read. They have no reasonable expectation to think that it will be any different with IA.
Heck, look at how WizKids treats their customer base and Clix players just line up with more money when the next set comes out. And FFG is leaps and bounds ahead of WizKids with how they handle their products & customer base.
What did wizkids do? I just ask because I'm curious.
In the end the whole boba box thing is first world problems, and- ah screw it! we want Boba!
Edited by Robin GravesJust because it doesn't offend you shouldn't mean that we don't have the discussion.
What are you, a barista at Starbucks?
So that's $287.55.
Retail is for suckers.
I get why it could be seen as an issue, but it makes sense with marketing to put your best known character on the box.
... and the back of the box shows what is inside the box.
Heck, it was a few years before Descent players were even able to get minis for the bosses.
(goes to worship Valyndra mini...)
I think some people justify it that Boba fett collectors may just want the figure and not everything else in the box so rather than be called "MONEY GRABBING!!!" ffg decided to put him in a nice small expansion.
Instead now people are complaining that he is not in the "expensive box"..
Sorry FFG you can't win. Next time just put him in the bigger box and make more money boys
