Don't put Boba Fett on the box if Boba Fett is not in the box.

By TylerTT, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

First, I have no problem with FFG's product model for "Imperial Assault" i think it's fine to sell characters on their own. this makes the game slightly better for skirmish players, collectors and such.

BUT

You have no idea how disappointed i was that the box filled with miniatures with Boba Fett on it, does not in fact have a boba fett miniature inside it.

This will be a bigger disappointment to anyone who does not research what is inside the box before buying it. my advice would be to change the cover art or perhaps if it's super important to have a Boba Fett on the cover you go ahead and put that 20 cent piece of plastic in the box.

Well it has a Fett token. Same as Descent so I am not complaining.

Descent is a great game and it does this and thats fine in my opinion. but it's not star wars.

it's not Boba Fett

Boba Fett is a religion to some people.

I get why it could be seen as an issue, but it makes sense with marketing to put your best known character on the box.

Boba Fett is a religion to some people.

That's not justication to do anything. Fett is no doubt a big part of the story and is part of the marketing. Plus if he was included as a model the price would go up because they couldn't sell it separately. You get a token which is all you need to play the game so it's not even like this is false advertising.

people who want a Boba Fett toy are not going to look at the details, thats why this matters as opposed to Descent leaders. People who buy this thinking the model is in the box are going to be very disappointed. is that the experience FFG is looking for?

Boba Fett? Boba Fett?

Where?

people who buy this thinking the model is in the box are going to be very disappointed.

People who buy this already have the core set. So they should be well aware that not every model comes in the box. Plus it would say on the box what comes in it. Anyone disappointed by not getting something that isn't listed has other issues.

Step 1: Get a box.

Step 2: Cut a hole in the box.

Step 3: Put Boba Fett in the box.

yeah and that's another thing, they put 18 stormtroopers on the imperial assault coreset box art and i didn't get 18 in my box. ;)

I understand what you are saying, it was a bit of a bummer, but im over it now. still will buy

Boba Fett? Boba Fett?

Where?

He does come with an inherent +2 Block AND Evade after all, so . . .

wait i got it. see how he is flying away? thats him escaping from that very box! Boba is so clever.

It's Always the same thing with Boba Fett.

Back in the 80's his action figure was supposed to be able to shoot a missile (wich it couldn't) and now this!

But I agree with the OP: the base game had Vader on the cover and they put his figure in. I realise the cover isn't indicative of the contents but stil... a bunch of sandpeople isn't the same as Boba.

No one puts Boba in the Corner! Ahemn, box.

I presume that we will be getting the Boba card and a cardboard token in the Twin Shadows expansion. It might not be as neat as a piece of plastic, but it will be Boba just the same.

But I agree with the OP: the base game had Vader on the cover and they put his figure in. I realise the cover isn't indicative of the contents but stil... a bunch of sandpeople isn't the same as Boba.

The Luke and Vader packs in the core set were a smart way of advertising the line of figure packs. they helped people understand what they could expect when they bought figure packs.

their inclusion as tokens feels intentional, not a situation of last minute changes.

I'm just glad FFG didn't decide to make Boba only available in the box.

Actually... The picture on the box legally has to be at least somewhat indicative of it's contents.

That's the reason why things like cigarettes are not allowed to have ponies and pokemon on them. The reason why the term 'false advertising' exists is specifically for that reason.

The box art is misleading and this concept can't be lost on FFG. They're not oblivious to how marketing works and they know full well what they're doing. A picture of Boba Fett (small round cardboard token component) will sell far more boxes than the picture of a heavy trooper, or of the new heavy weapons hero. Not including the mini in the box allows them to double-dip... Get people to buy the box for Boba's picture on it and then get people to buy the pack that actually has Boba Fett and his cards in it.

Let's not forget... FFG is marketing this as a MINIATURES game and the MAIN focus of the cover art is a character that does not have a miniature in the box, but rather a miniature that you have to purchase seperately. How do you not call that misleading / false advertising?

It's one way of doing business, not necessarily what everyone would consider the right way of doing business.

I don't think it's misleading at all, considering you're only seeing the front of the box.

Technically, the core set was actually the base game with Vader's pack included (which usually happens with a second edition print, as opposed to the initial run of a game). As previously stated by someone else, I believe it was to introduce what character packs would incorporate into the game.

That being said, on the back of the box, it even states that Vader is a separate thing that happens to be included. The game would play fine without the mini, but it adds to the immersion.

The back of the box probably states that Boba's figure isn't included, but since no one has a pic of the back of the box, it's speculation on either part.

I think it's unreasonable to moan and groan about "misleading" and "false" advertising when you don't even know all of the advertising.

It's $10, people. Come on, skip your coffee a few times and BOOM, you get your religion.

You have to look at it from the other side. If I am a Boba Fett fan its better that he is in a solo pack.

I would much rather pay 10 dollars than 40. Also the LCG packs have artwork that isnt even in the packs. I really dont think that has hurt sales.

I'm quite okay with it all as is.

Yay Boba Fett !

Meh.

Out of curiosity, does this apply to everything? For example, another FFG product, Age of Rebellion, shows Luke Skywalker on the cover, but nowhere in it are his stats. Is that an issue?

-The Armada Core Box shows multiple star destroyers on the front, but only contains one. (Don't even ask about the depicted planet!)

-X-Wing Miniatures' B-Wing has a Nebulon B on its art, but doesn't even mention it in the included material!

I would happily argue that someone buying a product they're not familiar with should look at the back and get as much information as they can.

Furthermore, Boba Fett is included in the game in cardboard token form. It may not be the form you want, but it's still there. Should FFG be liable for including the version of everything shown in its art that everyone wants? I, for one, would appreciate a 3D Jabba's Palace to have my fully articulate Boba Fett jetpack away from, but I'm fairly certain that inside the game it'll be a collection of cardboard, tiles and a chit, that facilitate that image.

Long story short: It's art, it's evocative of the setting, and unless the listed components differ, it's not even close to false advertising. This is probably one of the most ridiculous arguments I have seen on the internet. The internet.

It's not false advertising. The box set isn't called the "Twin Shadows of Boba Fett". And even if it was, he's still represented by a token and more importantly, the deployment card(without which the token, let alone the mini, would be useless). FFG put the tokens and cards into this box so you weren't forced(ha!) to buy the single packs to be able to play with the characters. The single packs just have some extras, including the mini, to intice you into buying them as well.

I'm more interested to know if the box comes with 2 Heavy Stormtroopers and 2 or 3(can't see if it's 3 and the 5/2 doesn't help) Sand People minis. I assume so but they only show 1 of each in that spread.

It's 3. Look reeeeeal close at the deployment card in the fan, you can just see the tip of the third figure bar poking out from behind the card next to it.
