Chewie and Leebo Crazy

By mgrummitt, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi Everyone, I'm going to play in a fun tournament this weekend and I'm looking for a fun list that I can handle for I'm still new to the game.

I've been watching YouTube channels and the Fly Casual Ian has a pretty good list so I took it and modified it just a bit.

Chewie (42)

  • Dash Rendar (2)
  • Recon Specialist (3)
  • EU (4)

Leebo (34)

  • Predator (3)
  • Mangler Cannon (4)
  • Recon Spec (3)
  • Outrider (5)

Total = 100

I've also modified this if I can get another Predator card :)

Chewie (42)

  • Predator (3)
  • Dash Rendar (2)
  • Recon Spec (3)
  • Milini Falc (1)

Leebo (34)

  • Predator (3)
  • Mangler Cannon (4)
  • Recon Spec (3)
  • Outrider (5)

I like the Mangler cannon on Leebo with Outrider to now you don't have the donut hole anymore, but you do lose 1 attack die.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Here's a list that has brought me loads of success

Han Solo (46)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Recon Specialist (3)

Engine Upgrade (4)

Millennium Falcon (1)

Wild Space Fringer (30)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Recon Specialist (3)

Outrider (5)

Total: 100

Saw a variant of the original list that used Lone Wolf on Leebo. Chewie and a Mangler Leebo worked very well together, with Chewie's attacks stripping shields so the Mangler could do maximum damage. Utterly murdered my BBBY list.

I would drop dash and pred off of Chewie in favor of 3PO and Lone Wolf.

Unfortunately I don't have 3PO yet :(

What's up with Dash on Chewie when you also have two action dependent upgrades? Dash will let you shoot when you're stuck on a rock but you're still going to lose actions which means no double Focus from Recon Specialist of Boost/Evade from the title or EU.

You may be trying to maximize the Mangler attack by using Predator but don't overlook Determination's interaction with Leebo's pilot ability. That combo is the best chance for Determination to throw out damage.

I've used (and/or abused) this list heavily in the past few months, managing to take 1st, 2nd and 4th in consecutive Store Championships, so I've put a lot of thought into optimizing the two ships.

I think you're on the right track.

Your Leebo's great, no changes necessary. The HLC works well on him, but the Mangler is great too, and more reliable/forgiving. In all the games I've lost while flying Bobacca, there have been key moments when I lost ideal HLC shots because of the vulnerable donut hole, and the Mangler prevents that. Your maximum damage output will suffer, and you may lose opportunities to kill or one-shot a ship, but the effects of the Mangler's crits mollify that.

Getting the second copy of Predator would be big for Chewie. For Chewie's other upgrades, my preference is Jans Ors + RecSpec + MF title. With that build you can ensure a focus + evade on either ship every turn, or get an evade on both ships later in the game when it becomes essential to prolong their lifespans.

If you don't like that, I'd say C-3P0 becomes the next top priority. If you're including him you can go several different ways with the remaining points. Jan, RecSpec, and the MF title are still worth considering. Dash is useable (counteracting that obstacle bonus evade dice can be big). I think Tactical Jammers on one or both ships can be worthwhile, but it will put pressure on you to play skillfully (avoiding bumps while positioning the Jammers to function, particularly if one ship is damaged and requires the protection).

I'm to Scum for the next SC, but I may return to the sidekick pancake build for Regionals.

Determination is certainly worthy, but Predator can win you games. You're likely to come up against a low PS swarm sometime during a SC. And you're unlikely to ever be able to target lock.

Thank you everyone for your feedback. Since I'm limited on certain cards (going back through and actually looking at them all to make sure I have them) I had to finally come up with this list. I will use it this weekend and test it out. That's the fun of these right? Since the tournament is casual and for fun I think I'll do ok and build on it.

Chewie (42)

  • Predator (3)
  • Jan Ors (2)
  • Recon Spec (3)
  • Tactical Jam (1)
  • MF (1)

Total = 52

Leebo (34)

  • Lone Wolf (2)
  • Mangler Cannon (4)
  • Recon Spec (3)
  • Outrider (5)

Total = 48

For all who are flying this weekend good luck to you!!

I was playing this build for awhile and had great success. Took 2nd in a SC out of 20.

Experimental Interface (3)

Lando Calrissian (3)

Nien Numb (1)

MF Title (1)

Leebo (34)

Update: Well I played my list in the tournament this last weekend (small, but fun and casual)

Chew

Pred

EI

Lando

Nien
MF Title

Leebo

Deter

Mangler

Recon Spec

Outrider

Took 2 out of 3 but no complete dominance. I had some issues with flying them due to they threw in some Asteroid Turrets (1 per side, no additional points to your list). It had 4 dice for firing and 6 hull. Only bad thing was they had an arc (don't know why they called it turret :) ) I lost the first due to having to arc dive the turret at close range and got blocked in a corner (my bad)

Next two I stayed wide and pounded the other ships and took the next two that way and did ok

Thanks to everyone for helping out with the list

Leebo with Determination seems like it's a sweet combo and in the games that it pays off it will be awesome. If every shot that gets through to your hull is a crit you'll stop 2 or 3 points of damage. However, unless your opponent has incredible dice you aren't likely to take that many crits.

Ignoring the changing distribution of pilot crits in the damage deck as cards are dealt (mostly because I suck at math), Leebo has about a 43% percent chance of getting a pilot crit every time he has to draw. That's pretty good by itself but his opponent only has about a 31% chance of rolling a crit on a three die attack (TLs and some other thing will change it). Assuming that Leebo never rolls enough evades to get rid of a crit (again because I'm rubbish with numbers), he'll be able to pull a pilot crit on about 13% of all attacks on him. With 5 hull that means that he's going to average just under one point of damage avoided by Determination.

Even if it stops just one point of damage a game, Determination on Leebo is still a solid buy. However, this combo seems like one that will do better anecdotally than it will mathematically. Everyone that plays it or plays against it much will have a story about "that one time when Leebo got to ditch 4 damage cards in one match". They won't remember all of the games that it never triggered.

Determination is a good choice on Leebo but I don't think that it is an auto-include. With all the Mangler Cannons floating around, it is probably more likely to discourage people from dealing the crits in the first place than it will let you discard pilot crits.

We had tried a list that case similar to this and we had Leebo with the mangler, outrider, recon spec and calculation. Calculation as interesting and paired up with the mangler it is a crit machine.

I flew this last weekend:

Worked out well, on 100-0 and two very tight games, that could have been 100-0 in my favour as well, but weren't.
