Unpainted ISD, Mon Cal Cruiser and Mon Cal Frig

By Belamont, in Star Wars: Armada

Thx for sharing!

ya beat me to the punch, a few more angles to check out these beauts. no complaints so far

Beautiful detail on that sculpt, i'm impressed!

Wow, they look nice, esp the ISD.

I'll need extras to display as statuettes.

That ISD is freaking huge! Nice job FFG.

Now that I see how massive it is, I don't know about fitting 2 into a 300 point list. They would take up a huge chunk of real estate on a 6X3. You have to take mirror matches into consideration. You could have 2 ISD's vs. 2 ISDs. It would be almost silly.

Can the pictures be posted here please? Some of us don't have Twitter and can't see them all. Thanks!

Good detail but I'm not a painter so that may limit my interest in the game if they are not painted.

I think its pretty unlikely they will be unpainted, rather these would be the prototype models out of the moulds simply to display size and proportion. Given the short timeframe I would guess that FFG has "rushed" these out in order to help build hype around Armada given the delays its encountered and the tepid attitude of some gamers who are already heavily invested in X-Wing to show that they are very serious about his games future (unlike the Imperial epic ship that took several months to even get announced and made people wonder if they had given up on it).

I'm on a streak of agreeing with Maverick today. I agree completely about tossing some coal in the engine of the hype train with bringing the ISD prototype. Even if a lot of what went on surrounding getting Armada released was out of their control, it has felt like a long time since that GenCon demo. Rather than let people simmer on the late first wave, have something to show (and oh boy did they) that they have a great release in the pipeline. The number of posts popping up to the effect of 'well I wasn't so hot about Armada until now,' are likely exactly what they wanted to achieve, and at the same time, very good to hear for the future health of the game.

I definitely shared your worry when I read what the large base size was... I still have a sneaking suspicion that it will be costed just barely out of range to double up in a 300 point list, and seeing the model only reinforces that feeling.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

An ISD-2!! It is lovely of course, but will there be anything for those who like the ISD-I details more?

That plastic contrast is a pretty clear illustration of why the ISD costs more than the MC80 though... that's almost three times the plastic!

Even if its at 125 points i woudnt want two of them in my fleet. Such a thing needs swarms of little helpers around it to look massive in relation. Its not about the actual size of the model, its about its relation to the other ships on the board imo.

Thanks Parduke!

Looking at these pictures, Im begining to think the much debated sliding scale is only meant for the small base ships. The medium and large models seem really consistent in scale with each other. Its the small ones that seem to be enlarged quite a bit.

If that is the case, Im feeling a lot better about the sliding scale.

Are these two ships in scale of one another? I thought the MC80 was of equal length to an ISD. If I'm wrong no biggie, just a standing assumption. Home One always looked so flipping massive.

Another thing, though it would hurt to do it, can somebody make a mold of these and then kick the #^$&! out of them? These would make impressive debris pieces/destroyed ship obstacles. How awesome would that be?!

According to Wookieepedia the Home One type was between 1,200 and 1,400 meters long (Your personal flagship may vary!). The ISD was 1,600 meters long and did no vary from that like the MC-80 did.

That ISD is bloody massive, consider my stance on wanting the Victory to be the largest in-game Star Destroyer changed. That thing's a beaut.

And yeah, R22, Home One is massive. But ISDs are even more so. The Imperial fleet could get to quite ridiculous levels of size.

This is so awesome.

And I am such a nerd.

FFG staffers also appear to be reading these forums, and responding to what they read. A number of forum members have complained about the lack of an ISD in the game, at release. The lack of the Mon Cal Cruiser was also mentioned.

I think -- now -- we see why it was saved as an individual release: It is a monster. Putting that and the Mon Cal cruiser in a starter pack would have done scary things to the price of the Core Set. The price point would likely have been in the $140.00 US range.

While I would have still picked it up. A lot of intro games aim for just at or under $100 US. I'm betting there is a very good reason for that, probably based on the larger markets willingness to pay.
