New Preview

By dpb1298, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I really like the look of the new Heroes.

I wish one was an Alien but otherwise I am excited to see them in game.

Either way can we all say Hoth for the next, presumably big box, expansion?

That sounds reasonable.

Wompas, maybe a hero on a TaunTaun, maybe some Talz...

I think the hardest part of a Hoth expansion is the (almost literal) elephant in the room - AT-ATs!

An Endor expansion could be possible too.

Ewoks, Scout troopers, Rebel Commandos...

But, my number one guess?

Cloud City.

Leia and Lando as allies, Dengar and Bossk as scum (maybe some uggnaughts), and some Imperial Moff as the villain. The campaign? Retake Bespin after Lando & Co leave, possibly happening in parts simultaneously with the movie.

You're right, Hoth wouldn't be an easy one to do in a big expansion as the AT-ATs just couldn't work. A small box would then I could get my snow tiles and the obligatory debuff condition from being out in the cold.

Endor would work really well and I definitely want some mobile scout troopers.

You will be disappointed then as I believe it will be $40, or about £25-28 for us Brits.

Perhaps the big box expansions will be more to your liken. I suspect the first of which will be announced just as this small box gets released.

Yeah. That means that for Canada it's likely to end up somewhere ridiculous like in the $50-$60 range which I find unacceptable... Especially when considering there are plenty of quality games out there with tons of replay value that can be purchased for the same price as this 'mini-expansion' which can't be played on it's own.

It certainly doesn't constitute half the value of what you get in the core box that comes in at just about twice the price.

I don't know if it will be as cheap as £28 for us. I'm basing that off the current price of the Descent expansions but I'm sure they cost a lot more at the time. We normally pay near a £ to the $. For example the core set cost me £70 which is over $100.

However I'd never complain about prices when I see how hard Australia gets it.

Has anyone else notice the icon next to R2-D2's name?

swi10-componentspread.png

It's similar to the Icon on the other cards marking them as part of this expansion, but not exactly alike. That may be a result of the early preview graphics though.

Looks to me like one of the upgrade icons from X-Wing. Dunno what that would mean in this game though.

Is it me or is that Mara Jade as the picture on the skirmish card on Kayn Somos' pack?

Someone at BGG just pointed this out, if it is I'm going to be so hoping for a Mara Jade figure at some point.

It kinda makes sense too, we know she was on Tatooine when Luke was although that was more RotJ then post New Hope...

See if you can find the book "Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina". She was there right after Luke and Ben hired Han to fly them to Alderaan.

Now that I think of it, I may be remembering "Tales from Jabba's Palace", which would be RotJ not New Hope. Sorry, I can't keep my EU straight.

Thats no longer canon....its Legends now.

I dont think there will be a Mara Jade since she no longer exists since Disney moved the EU under the legends banner.

Didn't they say that EU content still exists unless directly contradicted by new content? So the Jedi Academy is no longer Canon, but Mara Jade being at Jabba's Palace might still be in the cards then.

It would still make no sense to include Jade in an expansion. Thrawn trilogy? No longer canon because they are currently overwriting it with the Sequel trilogy and books like Aftermath etc.

Almost everything that had Mara Jade in was post ROTJ.

So, yes: Jade being (as Arica) in Jabba's Palace can still be canon, but all the things after that (being Luke's wife, having some ids etc) isn't.

From the preview the Tusken has the keyword Habitat: Desert.

I wonder if they can only be included in desert missions for the campaign as an open group?

I would agree but wasn't there a confirmed rumor that Royal Guard Champion used to be Carnor Jax before someone (assuming Disney) botched it and made it a generic nameless royal guard champion?

Just because something isn't canon doesn't mean FFG isn't able to use it.

RGC being named Carnor Jax in beta isn't rumor.

Thanks I thought I saw it somewhere.

Looks like Boba Fett is 6 speed with Mobile which is insane.... Also the Tuskan Raider card says Habitat: Desert I wonder what that mean is there anything like Habitat in Descent?

And is it just me, or does it look like he has a passive +1 block/+1 evade combination? Madness!

Well, you know, his backpack *does* have jets .

I suspect there will be something to that effect. The description says t'they are loath to leave their home, however in the desert they have all sorts of tricks up their sleeves' or something like that. I'm on my phone so I'm paraphrasing a bit.

This makes sense. I'm assuming it's like the AT-ST, which can't be indoors in the campaign. These guys can probably only be on desert tiles, but used freely in Skirmish.

OR, maybe it means that they get some kind of buff or bonus effect if they're in the desert that they wouldn't usually get otherwise.

Sorry, but that song is just painful.

They really need to show the back of the box so we can see if there are new tiles/etc.

There's a page out there that said it came with 12 new tiles, 10 miniatures and a bunch of new cards.

Doesn't it look a little like the planets on the back of the mission cards? So maybe that is a campaign-only version of R2-D2? That's my guess. I think the figure pack comes with a different copy of R2-D2 that will be used in skirmish (the face-down card in the figure pack) and the box expansion includes the campaign one that will have traits that help the Rebels in specific missions.

If that's the case, why include the campaign-only R2-D2 in the figure pack? I think it's because that R2 will be incorporated into the side mission that comes with the figure pack.

A Tusken Raider on Hoth or the bridge on a Star Destroyer may be a tad of a stretch after all.

Although I would still like to see a Jawa zap and Ewok one day. Yub nub you hairy little Bantha podo!

I figure the 10 minis are as follows:

2 new heroes

4 heavy stormtroopers (2 elite, 2 regular)

4 tuskan Raiders (2 elite, 2 regular)

Personally I find some of the places Nexu are showing up to be kind of strange. Which reminds me, the biggest disappointment I have over Twin Shadows is that we aren't getting any new "Creature"-type figures. Dewbacks and banthas would probably be most likely for Tatooine. I just think krayt dragons would be too big, and anything else common to Tatooine wouldn't be iconic enough.

I just think krayt dragons would be too big, and anything else common to Tatooine wouldn't be iconic enough.

Avg length of a Krayt Dragon is 45m per Wookiepedia. An AT-ST is 8.6m tall. So that would make a Krayt dragon about 5 times as long as the AT-ST is tall... The AT-ST is what 4-5 inches tall? So the Krayt Dragon mini would be about 2 feet long.

Yeah, that's definitely too big.

Yeah, that's definitely too big.

Not as bad as a full scale Imperial Star Destroyer in X-Wing. We did the math back when someone first mentioned it.

At 1/270 scale which X-Wing uses, a ISD would be about 19 feet long.

Descent 2nd edition had rules built into the core set that limited which monsters could be used in which missions for thematic reasons. I see them doing something similar with tuskan raiders.

I just think of them as being tamed and brought into the fight.

That's how my math worked out as well.
