So, in boredem and speculation, anyone want to guess or hope for the next licensed fighting game?

By Just Doin' Work, in UFS General Discussion

We all know about the delays coming with Tekken and Soul Calibur 4, and the one set per released deal, but with that, there may be a small hope that FFG can work on getting another licensed fighting game to help spicen up miniblock or just grab one that is high in demand. While this may be a slim to none hope, it would be nice to see some fresh character faces.

The obvious fan hopeful choices would be:

Super Smash Brothers (I highly doubt that Nintendo would lease its characters to another card game competing with their own)

Guilty Gear // BlazBlue (My preferred choice)

Dead Or Alive (When was the last time a game came out from here?)

Virtual Fighter (Looks a lot like Tekken, kinda?)

Just curious as to what other people would be interested in.

Some new faces or perhaps new legal cards of their old favorite characters? I, for one, would not object to a new SF set, since most of my favorite character will be rotating out this next coming block.

Thoughts? Opinions?

If we're gonna get DoA, we probably won't get it for at least 18 months, since they've only hinted at DoA5 so far and haven't officially announced they're making it. So if it does get made, FFG will probably try to do the same thing that they did with Tekken and have a release set that coincides with the release of the game.

While it's shaping up to be a very strong game, the Blazblue franchise isn't as strong as the Guilty Gear franchise, so it's more likely we'll get Blazblue first since the license will be cheaper to acquire.

Well, GG and BB are both owned my arcsoft, and if I'm not mistaken, Arcsoft wanted to go into the next gen gaming systems with their own "next-gen" game. So I don't think we will be seeing another GG anytime soon... or if ever for that matter T-T. But I could be wrong. I wouldn't mind having a BB since I can relate to playing that game over GG at the moment.

I don't think there will be a next one, or at least not for a very long time, considering there's barely enough coverage for the 7 we have now, let alone taking on an 8th :|

Obviously One Must Fall 2097

Arcsoft....really? Arc System Works dude!

And VF is not like Tekken, except they are 3D fighters.

As much as it pains me to say this, I don't think UFS has room for more liscenses with their current set release policies until some get dropped.

Ive wanted to see this ever since UFS first came out and i started playing it

it would make my dreams come true lol

but i wouldnt be suprised if the next license would be mortal kombat which i wouldnt mind seeing either id totally play as sub-zero no matter how bad he was

Mortal Kombat... T_T_T_T_T_T_T_T

Now would be the time to pick that up. Midway is poor as crap right now lol.

Yeah, now WOULD be the time to grab Mortal Kombat. I sincerely hope they go for the MK: Deception lineup over the MK vs. DC Universe one... the license would be too expensive, and gods, was that game unbalanced... preocupado.gif

King of Fighters XII and Samurai Showdown: Blades of Destiny.

Midway is now owned by Warner. WATATWIST eh?

I'd like to see BlazBlue, but I doubt it'll happen due to previously mentioned issues.

What's likely to show up? KOFXII, Samurai Shodown: Edge of Destiny, SFIV, and/or extentions of previous games to cover wider swathes of territory.

I don't really want any more licenses until the economy is no longer tanked and we get 2 games per set again. I mean, I like all of our licenses (Shadowar brought me Rashotep, whose a bad-ass) so I'm really hoping we don't get anything.

i can't agree with Q more. FFG already has trouble keeping the key characters legal with the curent licenses, for now 8 is enough.

Honestly I wouldn't expect to get a new license for 2-3 years . We haven't even had tekken yet and its a license Steve loves to death . Not to mention Steve has said it takes a couple years of negotation to get a license typically . Also we will be having less sets so we can use what we have to distribute sets for the next couple of years.

Sigh, so much for BlazBlue! :P my hopes and dreams are crushed
