Wave 2 Armada, and its relation to Xwing: Specifically new Large ships.

By Bipolar Potter, in X-Wing

Anyone else surprised there was no Otana? Could scum really be turret-free?

You do realize that Most Wanted shipped with both HWK and Y-Wing pilots right? One HWK Pilot doubles Ion Turret Damage, and one Y-Wing Pilot rolls an Extra Attack Die, when attacking outside of her arc. AND nearly every ship can gain the single shot turret from HotShot Blaster!

In fact, the M3A Interceptor is the ONLY Scum ship that cannot currently equip a turret.

Yea, but none of those are like the multi-crew beefy ships like Han or Kenkirk.

I'm not complaining at all. Just surprised.

I hate to open this can of worms, but... y'all realize that that the Havoc is a prequel design, right?

I'm sure we'll see multi-crew ships. I would love to see some with different firing arcs, instead of just turrets. Maybe a wider front arc, or something like the Raider seems to have. Maybe a narrow frontal arc? Maybe a ship that only shoots sideways?

I am just shocked that they detailed expansion waves for Armada (Which doesn't have a BASE game for sale yet) and Imperial Assault - and they didn't say a word about X-Wing yet. If they don't say anything about X-Wing today I think I'm going to melt.

You mean like how they had those very pretty Falcon, Firespray, Interceptor, and A-wing models on display when they released X-wing at Gencon?

Besides, someone clarified that the first presentation yesterday was about their new lines. Thus the focus on Imperial Assault and Armada, and not on X-wing and Netrunner.

I don't care I'm still melting. Nothing can stop that now.

I think people see turrets with limitations differently to the 3 Dice 360 Primary. Hotshot's a one trick pony, the Y-wing has a liking for locking its turret forward now, the HWK and Y-wing are R1-2 turrets and they're base costed at 16 and 18. It's not a Scum Decimator, Falcon or Outrider.

No doubt. And that is probably a good thing. Sure, you can use turrets, but it's not gonna be open season on everything on the board.... you are going to have to work for it.

Few starwars fans know a 3d rendered can of worms was an early prequel ship design as well.

That's WHY they aren't saying much about X-Wing (yet)

They have lots of Star Wars fans who buy their stuff

They have new and shiny Star Wars toys

They want the Star Wars fans who buy their existing Star Wars toys to buy the range of new shiny Star Wars toys as well as the existing range.

They want us to buy Armada and Assault now - then buy the Raider in a couple of months

So they give us information on the thing they want us to buy now now- and info on the thing they want us to buy in a couple of months in a couple of months.

Simple really

Yeah but here's the thing - Armada launches next week. They are dropping expansion #2 news to a game that isn't even out yet. Alot of people are suggetsing they want you to focus on what they want you to buy NOW - but this move counters that. Same goes for Imperials Assault - Expansion Wave 1 comes out Friday - yet here they are spoiling the following wave.

There has got to be a deeper, more sinister plan as to why X-Wing Wave 7 still isn't spoiled yet. I sense the dark side in this matter.

I don't know for sure but did they actually "reveal" the wave 2 stuff or was it "leaked"?

Yes, I'm sure no one at a trade show is interested in announcements for the product line that represents 1/3 of FFG's total sales(or whatever the ridiculous number announced at GenCon was), and thus likely a large chunk of the bottom line of the stores that carry it ;)

They revealed it at the trade show. It was just an early reveal though, no real detail. I'd expect after the trade show completes, we will start to see proper updates on the web site.

I find it amusing when people rag on the looks of the k-wing but are clamoring for the Punishing One. If any ship should shave it's aft and fly backwards, it is the Punishing One.

The first time I ever saw a K-wing was in a Battlefront II mod and it really left an impression. If I weren't dedicated to Scum, I'd be excited to pick up a K-wing for my Rebels. It has a very unique design.

Yeah, they're both pretty kind of wonky looking. I'm still hoping for Punishing One because I like Dengar, and I think it would be a unique turret ship, with a Salvaged Astromech instead of a Crew slot. It could include a bunch of droids since it's a large ship expansion, and Scum could use a few more.

And people think it's Rebel.

If they did add the Otana, I reckon it'd be Rebel, but the question is how you make it different from the Falcon, Outrider and Decimator.

By giving it bombs and/or torpedoes, or forward/rear arcs, like a Firespray, and 2 turret slots instead of a native turret.

Re-read the Wookieepedia entry:

That sounds like 2 cannon slots, 2 torpedo slots, and a 2 attack 360 turret to me.

Punishing one reminds me of the q wing

So basically IG88 with a turret then

I can understand not liking the Havoc/Scurgg but saying you'd rather have the K-wing because its "less weird" is just..... ungh.

K-wing Design Process: "What if we put like, a crap ton of engines and other nacelles on it?"

"Like, what? 3 or 4?"

"Nah, man, like, 12. Yeah, 12 would be awesome."

I kind of like the K-Wing in a so-ugly-its-pretty kind of way - but yeah, this pretty much sums it up

So basically IG88 with a turret then

And torpedoes, and a different dial. How different would IG88 fly if he had a dial closer to the Falcon's, instead? As far as the 2 primary turret, there's a reason people put cannons on Outriders, and don't generally run Outer Rim Smugglers, especially in this age of Auto-Thrusters.

You'd rather have THIS:1000px-K-Wing_NEGVV.jpg

this?

Am I the only one that sees a facehugger painted on that one?

Nope. Definitely a facehugger.

I really wish we had the K-wing it could provide a crapload of cool things. More Turret upgrades, More ordnance upgrades, another auxiliary arc ship(probably side arc rather than rear-facing) and a Bomber with boost standard (a Scimitar Assault Bomber could probably do this part for the Imperials as well)

I'm not sure if we'll get Havoc, Hounds tooth and Punishing one as wave seven. Three scum large ships all in one go might be a bit much? They could pad it out some with some smaller fighters and get a few waves out of them. Guess we'll find out soon though!

People seem to think the Havoc will be a Rebel ship, actually.

Their not mixing up the Scurrg H-6 with the H-60 Tempest are they?

Nah you can clearly see the Scurrg in the pictures.

The K-Wing is a modeling nightmare first of all, look at all those dangly bits, that dumb ball turret hanging off the front. I bet some art guy at FFG asked their modeling leads to do a mockup of one, and that person went home and cried themselves to sleep.

The K-wing is a fluff based abomination, having an identity crisis on its weapons load and actual layout in very source material its featured in, The Black Fleet Crisis Trilogy: 3rd engine is said to be below the wing and offset to one side, it has no laser turrets, carrying only hardpoint weaponry.

I can't even begin to stat this thing out. Um, 4/4 health? 2 dice turret primary? 1 agility, y-wing-esque dial, turret upgrade slot? 4-5 slots for missiles, torps, bombs, since it has such customize-able hardpoints. crew slot. focus, T/L, Boost (it had some sort of SLAM thingy).

I don't even know anymore, I hate this ship. I'd rather fly Knave Squadron pilots for every Xwing match for the rest of my life than see this thing on the tabletop.

I really can't take Dengar seriously after Robot Chicken totally defined the character for me...

...and, yeah, the Punishing One just looks...fanboy-made. I mean, for real, why is the central body so far off-center? For what reason? Other than 'let's move the center body off-center so it looks asymmetrical and edgy!' Ship designers don't just do things so they "look cool" or "to be different". The things are built to a purpose, and elements of their design must support that.

Maybe it's just because I was never interested in how the ships flew or operated much, but I don't care how "practical" a ship design in Star Wars is.

I mean, the Death Star is impractical and nonsensical. But it functions as part of the story. Star Wars ships in the films (I've never read any of the books and have no interest to), have always existed to get characters from point a to point b. Or to serve as vehicles in a combat scene. The practicality never mattered much. To me if it LOOKS interesting, or has a cool design I'm down! With that perspective, the Punishing One doesn't bother me. Do I like the look? Eh it's not that great, but it's fine. I'd be okay with it showing up in the game. The K-wing on the other hand.... that thing looks terrible...

It's pretty safe to say that anything you see get released for one Star Wars FFG game... is fair game for all other FFG Star Wars games (Within reason - no Star Destroyers in X-Wing lol). So all of these ships are absolutely viable. Now WHEN is the real question.

I guess X-wing won't get any AT-STs either :P
