Interesting!

Does it look like a possible re-implementation of the Star Craft game to anyone else? Regardless, exciting news. Can't wait to see more about it.

That were my thoughts exactly. I sure hope it is, Starcraft being my prefered Dudes On A Map team game.

Same here. The combat was fun, and they did a great job of incentivizing attacking over defense.

The game is only for 2-4 players and starcraft was 6 at start. I never played the expansion so I don't know if they added more players later on. Even if it isn't a direct copy I still expect a lot of similarities though

So Eldar, Orcs, Ultramarines and Khorne are the factions.

I never did get a chance to try the starcraft game

I do wonder if this means there is hope for a new incarnation of the gears of war game, which I also missed out on.

Starcraft was 6, but only sort of. They were 3 copies of the races, with some minor differences between them. The expansion just expanded the races and pieces, not the number of players.

Mostly I was speaking to the mechanics, the orders stack is re-used here, and the warp storms are a more interactive version of the routes in StarCraft.

Is Gears of War out of print? Bizarre, it was a wonderful game. :(

Starcraft was upto 6 players

In really hope they move this from 4-6.

Starcraft is still my favourite game.

I like it due to there being no dice in the game.

All the same though, I'm looking with interest and will be following it closely.

The license expired with no signs of a renewal

Awesome!!!

I'm hoping this is a 'light' version of twilight Imperium that plays quicker and better with less players.

TI would not work very well: There is only war, no diplomacy, and no trade with foul xenos.

Looks like Starcraft or Game of Thrones...but more like Starcraft.

The game looks very promising. If I can get friends to play it with me I might buy it, this or that Star Wars board game Imperial Assault.

yes, the mechanics look like starcraft. The skulls on the planets look like the capacity of the planet. here only seems to be two resources - the green cog, which is for unit production, and whatever token the planet gives you when you dominate it.

There are dice though, unlike starcraft. It seems like the die correspond to the icon on the left of the combat card, so that you can only play cards that match the die you roll.

It says there are victory tokens on the planets and I imagine that to be placed in the little box on the planet. Looking at the picture of the game, it seems that those little boxes have numerous functions. There seem to be three race-specific markers:

Victory tokens (I'm assuming they are the small grey ones that are defended by the chaos/eldar forces in the pic). They seem to be collected after you retrieve them, as you can see some in the space marine and chaos player aid sheets. That might mean there is no way for an opponent to steal them from you (or, maybe there is!! - sneaky eldar card perhaps?) which would make each one a great battle indeed.

Some sort of larger token - this seems to be used to represent what faction the grey "pyramid" and "temple" pieces belong to. These are visible in the pictures. I imagine one is a defense building, and one is a resource gathering building of some sort, but hey, what do I know?

Order tokens - as described.

Also there are three tokens that seem to represent the resources you can pick up from the planets (by using Dominate order).

I also noticed a track that goes up to eight with a skull on it next to the chaos player. (destroy units/planets for some chaos-y effect, perhaps?)

We are sure to hear more about the game as time continues... Personally it is expensive for me atm but I expect that's because there is going to be lots of plastic components and some good licensed imagery :)

Yup, definitely a re-themed Star Craft board game. I'll pass.

I never played the Star Craft game. Would this game fit into a collection that already has Game of Thrones, Rune Wars and Twilight Imperium?

Yes, absolutely.

It's a bit early to say it's a retheme of the Starcraft Board game since we know very little about the gameplay. It does look to have some similarities, but I noticed dice in the picture. So, it's definitely going to be more than just a retheme.

Yes it would, I own all 4 of those games.

FFG never does just re-themes. They'll take this opportunity to clean it up, polish it up, and apply new design ideas to it. Then they'll remake it a bit more to fit the setting. Also, honestly, even if it was a re-theme and minor update, I'd STILL say it was worth buying in to, as the old game was quite amazing.

If this game is an updated Starcraft, it is a great fit to those. With it in that collection you basically have the spectrum covered. This game will be almost all combat focused, and then TI is more diplomatic, with the rest coming in some where between.

Necrons!!??!!

TI Rex is exactly like DUNE. The only change is in the board

Well, Relic also incorporates some changes/improvements over Talisman. It's still basically the same game. From what little is known yet, it definitely shares some striking similarities with Star Craft.

Maybe I should mention that I consider that a good thing. Star Craft is a pretty cool game, but it also has quite a few annoying flaws. If they managed to eliminate those while keeping the good things about it, it would be great.

Nope, they made some changes like reducing the number of rounds and changing the composition of the cards.
