Wave 2 announced

By jimbobiii, in Star Wars: Armada

anyone following the reddit side of this thread? i was solidly in the field of ISD/moncal cruiser being large but there was debate on them being medium. to sumarize the debate.

in this picture ( https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CAZcqBjUgAAFS8w.jpg ) you can see the ISD beside a debatable small or medium mon cal frigate if medium the base of the ISD could be large, but if its small than based on this picture ( http://i.imgur.com/jxAc0vo.png ) the ratios are off. latest math provided was based on this play mat ( https://images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com/filer_public/c4/ae/c4ae9ff6-2675-42e4-bd9e-687de26b49ef/usws23-24-playmat1.jpg ) the 3x3 x-wing playmat other poster knew the dims of the planet pictured and had this math. The planet is about 156mm in diameter. Since the base of the ISD doesn't even stretch the entire planet, and we know the large base is 192mm, it cannot be a large base.

Thoughts?

Don't the ISD is a bit ... too small compared to the Victory?

Is the base bigger?

The picture with the MC30 frigate next to the ISD gives you a good indication of how big the ISD is compared to the VSD. The VSD fits on the smaller base.

The base is large on the ISD because the little shield dials look far more spaced from the base corners then on the medium Victory class base.

After seeing the MonCal cruiser in that image I'm now sold on it being sexy... so sexy! JUST TAKE MY MONEY ALREADY!

Gah! The raider frigate got clipped out of one of the shots!

Hmm... not sure if the ISD base looks the same size as the Victory's. Are we sure the ISD is a medium?

For those sad about the lack of Imperial heavy fighters, I think you have to blame the falcon for that. It would make no sense to release it as a stand alone purchase and it's such an iconic ship and major ship in X-Wing FFG would definitely want it in there quickly, when looking at what to pair it with and give the work (and research) FFG has done on scum and villainy for x-wing it makes sense to make this pack. In fact they may have just spoilt/revealed the next 2 scum ships to be released for x-wing.

The good news is however, that if FFG is planning on doing more of this "cross game" development, then when we see new stuff for imperials in Armada, like gunboats etc, then there is a strong chance of seeing them in x-wing too :)

Impossible to like this enough.

Unidentified ship (in the middle, 4th from left?) is probably the http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Havoc_(starfighter from Jedi Starfighter

1000px-Havoc_negvv.jpg

Not sure if this is the name of this particular ship, or the ship class, but its a bomber called the Havoc owned by a Nymoidian (I think) called Nym. If it's anything like the games it appears in, then it will be incredibly anti-capital ship and hopefully very fun to play with

Some of us dont have twitter. Can you please post the pictures here?

Its not required to "have twitter" to watch this. any modern browser will do, no?

Here we go ... :)

Actually we are sure it is a LARGE base, the discussion about will it be a medium was from awhile ago, and that was only started because some people are a little obsessive about the ssd

Dang beastly beat me to it

Madtulip,

Thanks much! I have an iPad with all the updates and I cant see it in twitter. Doesnt help that I refuse to get an account for that cesspool, but thats off topic.

Anyway, thanks for posting. Awesoe pics!

The more i see it the more i like the raider design. It seams so modern and sleek compared to the iconic ISDs by just attaching the TIE wings to it. Discussion about it beeing canon, movies, EU or not aside :) .

If you look at the images of the small ships (corvette, Nebulon B and Gladiator) the front shield dial takes up almost the entire space between the legs at the front of the base, the medium base has about a thin fingers distance between the dial and base legs.

So in the pictures of the ISD, MCC and MCF, the smaller base that the MC frigate is on is a medium base, the same as the Victory, therefore the ISD and MCC are definitely large.

Now how big would the super star destroyer be compared to the ISD?

Now how big would the super star destroyer be compared to the ISD?

lore wise it's about 9 times longer, if they put it in armada it could only be about 2(maybe 3x...maybe) bigger

This pretty much throws the 300 point limit out the door for me.

I probably won't run a game with less than 1000 points once I get my hands on a few of these.

So I get where your coming from, but a 300pt game is supposed to last like 2 hours so a 1000 pt game is going to last at LEAST twice as long so 4-6 hours every time you play?

Just saying...

Sound fantastic!

I can't wait to have HUGE armada battles.

Lol

Interesting, both large ships only have 3 command dials. I would have thought that they may have had 4.

Honestly, I've had the same thought.

I want two behomeths, MC & ISD, duking it out with their respective supporting task forces skirmishing about between them. 10 squadrons of fighters per side at least. I want late arriving, critical reinforcements and a third party force struggling between it all, like an escaping civillian convoy, VIP on a ship in distress, or key jump point. Let's see a flanking force of VICs try to end run the MC while a squadron of CR90s bum-rushes the ISD. Stun me with the perfectly timed revealed command and shatter the promising assault with a completely unnecessary squadron command. Allow me to join my opponent in mutual horror because as one of our ships goes spiralling out of control through the middle of the battle, victim of a critical hit that changes everything. Show me the peripheral starfighter battle that spills over, where Wedge wipes out the TIE/Bombers about to let loose on the Nebulon-B whose shields have just gone out in time for it to land a critical blow on a retreating Imperial VIP. Leaving it all hang out, let's discover the nameless TIE/Ln squadron amongst the swarm that changes history by somehow landing the blow that sends Leia out an airlock.

I mean, C'MON!

... Ugh, I just made the wait so much worse for myself. Curse my fertile imagination!
