Wave 2 announced

By jimbobiii, in Star Wars: Armada

Id hardly call them the 'dud'

But i agree we should be getting imperial equipment not bounty hunters in the second wave like the Star wing missile boat, Skipray blast boat, lambda shuttle....

Oh well I will have them all happily

I think it's fair - even a top notch wave can have something that you find "least good." Making bounty hunters available to the Empire before Imperial equipment - again - is just something I find personally disappointing. They will absolutely still take my money for it, I just wouldn't have done it the same way.

Fear not Dusksong! I'm sure more waves will follow soon that will add many more ships.

Still upsetting to not see the Corellian Gunboat, Lancer Frigate, the REAL Assault Frigate (the MK II is dumb), or the Dreadnaught make an appearance yet.

I know they're trying to legitimize the new Raider ship they created, but the Lancer is much more established in the EU, and, honestly, fits better in the game.

Also: When they finally make it, the Corellian Gunboat needs to come with a new maneuver tool for speed 5 maneuvers.

That ISD make have just sold me on actually buying in to this game. =( My wallet is crying dollar sign tears.

I agree. I rather see the Gunboat and the Lancer. I would be shocked if we didn't see the Dreadnaught. It could actually be a cross-faction ship.

You know that they were going to throw in the Raider, but my fear is that it pretty much takes the Lancer's role in the game. Doubt we see the Lancer now.

seeing that they put up news articles for the IA products which also where anounced yesterday at gama for the first time (correct?) im hopeing for a wave 2 intoduction article with some better quality pictures over the next days.

Something i just noticed on all those dials for the RaV pack, all of them have 6-8 numbers for HP. These guys are going to be beefy sons of guns.

I noticed that there was some extra symbols on specifically Hounds Tooth as well.

Is there a new set of images out? I've heard rumors but can't find any.

For those sad about the lack of Imperial heavy fighters, I think you have to blame the falcon for that. It would make no sense to release it as a stand alone purchase and it's such an iconic ship and major ship in X-Wing FFG would definitely want it in there quickly, when looking at what to pair it with and give the work (and research) FFG has done on scum and villainy for x-wing it makes sense to make this pack. In fact they may have just spoilt/revealed the next 2 scum ships to be released for x-wing.

The good news is however, that if FFG is planning on doing more of this "cross game" development, then when we see new stuff for imperials in Armada, like gunboats etc, then there is a strong chance of seeing them in x-wing too :)

The Raider and the Lancer have completely different roles in the Imperial fleet. The Raider is intended as a counter to the CR-90 while the Lancer is a pure anti-fighter platform which a CR-90 would crush one on one most of the time

Wow Otacon great find! The ISD looks massive and the detail is amazing. It's going to be so awesome to grab one when they come out this summer.

The Raider IS Legit... and I am happy to see it coming to the game. It makes me smile...

:)

That picture of the ISD, Mon Cal Cruiser and Frigate are amazing. The ISD is definitely massive compard to the Mon Cals, I approve. Looking forward to see more pictures of these over time!

That Star Destroyer looks fantastic . I can't concentrate at work because I'm busy picturing a 600 point game with two of those beauties on the table with several other ships in support... Just wow. My expectations were utterly obliterated. Just take my money, FFG. Garnish my wages, whatever. With capital ships that look like this, it's all yours.

The good news is that the Falcon's not going to spoil this game, since ALL squadrons have turrets!

Just going to leave this tweet with pictures of an unpainted ISD on the table here... even if I don't end up buying into this game, I think I'll have to get one of these...

It looks brilliant unpainted!

I hope they have different pilot cards for the small fighters. Like a card for han and a card for lando. Dont know about the others though

Check out the other thread I posted: each ship will have one generic card and one named-ship card with pilot. So the pilots we'll see in this release are Han, Dash Rendar, Jan Ors, Nym, IG-88, Boba Fett, Dengar and Bossk.

Anyone notice that's the Scum and Villiany card art for Fett, as opposed to the Empire one? That means he'll have a useful special ability!

Personally, I hope the unique pilots are faction specific, whereas the generic pilots can fly for both factions.

I too am very disappointed by the replacement of imperial ships with bounty hunters.

I hope the bounty hunters all suck so I never see them on the table. (Sorry, but a bounty hunter would GTFO as soon as a fleet battle started. Money means nothing if you are dead)

I think this is really the core of my disappointment with the choice of the Empire's large squadron models - it's in the theme. The Falcon racing in with fighter squadrons is super thematic, and we actually watch it happen in Jedi. If I'm trying to envision what is flying in support of a TIE patrol or a flight of TIE bombers closing in on a frigate, it's a VT-49, not Boba Fett.

Don't the ISD is a bit ... too small compared to the Victory?

Is the base bigger?

Jan Ors, Nym, Dash and Han are all Rebel aligned, as are their generic counterparts, so I can only assume that the bounty hunters and their generic versions are Imperial.

The base is almost twice the size, so yes, the ISD is much bigger. It's still a sliding scale that means it won't necessarily be to exact scale, but it will probably be close.

Imo every one should stop complaining about the imp large ship, those will come later... And the bounty hunters are first because, well how many times did you see the decimator in the movies?

in fact since my fandom comes from the movies and not the thousands of E.U. books and such I would prefer the bounty hunters over the other large ships your suggesting

Now we did see the lambda but that's it and the lambda will surely come later as well

again, just my opinion Don't take offense if I disagree with you I still love all of you fellow (soon to be) armada players

The Raider and the Lancer have completely different roles in the Imperial fleet. The Raider is intended as a counter to the CR-90 while the Lancer is a pure anti-fighter platform which a CR-90 would crush one on one most of the time

According to the FFG release :

The Raider is a starship made specifically for anti-fighter warfare. Its six dual heavy laser cannons proved more accurate against snubfighters than the turbolaser batteries of its Star Destroyer cousins, and the disruptive effects of its ion cannon emplacements, along with the efficiency of its localized command, make it a powerful addition to small strike forces.

The Lancer was originally considered as the Imperial 'Big Ship' in X-Wing, but it was twice the size of the Corvette, and thus impractical for the game, so they invented a similar but smaller ship: the Raider.

As for the Corvette vs Lancer scenario, the CR90 wasn't really a combat vessel. It was a multipurpose ship with some combat capabilities; at best, a light escort. While the Lancer wasn't as heavy hitting as the CR90 with its turbolasers, it was purpose-built for combat. The Lancer had 576 SBD and 304 RU versus the 400 SBD and 192 RU of the CR90. That's about 50% more durability, and its twenty quad laser cannons is nothing to scoff at.

I wish I still had X-Wing Alliance installed because I'd run a few simulations of a Lancer vs. a CR90, because I'd bet it'd be a lot closer than you'd think.

Regardless, it's more or less moot, as we're discussing fleet action. Neither is really going to be caught alone. The Corvette is a bit more general purpose, but the Lancer fits better in conjunction with the Imperial ships which are all fairly rock-paper-scissors.

And an ImpStarDeuce paired with two Lancers as escort, and TIE Bombers ready to harrass any rebel ships attempting to flank... mmm, sexy.
