Wave 2 announced

By jimbobiii, in Star Wars: Armada

and these will appear sometime in fiscal year 2017. Maybe.

Hush! Don't be that guy!

Nice!!!!! How did I miss this going on?

Edit: What event was this at and are there any official links?

It's from GAMA, which if you didnt know stands for Game Manufacturers Association. They put on a show each year where you see a lot of games get debuted. Everyone knows about shows like Origins and Gencon, but GAMA is still going and their trade show is a great show.

I laughed when I saw this. Wave 1 is not even out in the general public hands and we have Wave 2 announcement... I love it! the only question left is when can I pre-order??!!!!

So, (if I am counting correctly) as of Wave 2, every single spacefaring craft from the original trilogy will be represented in Armada with the exception of the Lambda Shuttle and the Rebel Transport. Should we expect a "shuttles and transports expansion" in Wave 3?

to be honest, I think X wing will get fewer and fewer releases, as FFG moves to concentrate on Armada.

Hard to say where X-Wing will go after this, since they just started up a new faction and that opens up a lot of potential for that game.

Speaking for myself though, I'm more interested in the Armada releases for the Imperial equipment. If scum is going to dominate X-Wing for a while then I'll shift to Armada, where I can look forward to more Imperial equipment and star destroyer variants before we get gummed up with scum.

And if the smallcraft are any indication, at least for now, they'll be cut to join the major factions. The only thing I don't like about it is they take the place of legitimate Imperial equipment, such as DX-9s, Escort Shuttles, and other nice things we could have had for that size.

Can somebody do a size breakdown of the new ships? Obv. the ISD and MC are large. Is it me or are both the Raider and MC Frigate small?

Dear FFG,

You're killin me guys. Here I was, hoppin and boppin, happy as a clam after the news yesterday that Armada would soon be in my grubby little hands, Countin down the days till I got that notice in my email telling me it was go time...and then we get this. It has taken me awhile to scoop my jaw off the floor and longer to walk comfortabley again. I don't care that is hasn't even been officialy announced; I want it now. All of it. I don't even have the base game yet, and I wan't this with the passion of a thousand burning suns. I have put all other game purchaes on permanent standby as I await further information about these expansions.

You've done it...you have created a new potent form of nerd crack. May god have mercy on your souls.

Sincerly,

an anxious Armada customer

The wiki on the MC Frigate makes them sound pretty interesting, weak armour butbuilt around firing whole salvos of proton torpedoes? Likewise they have a point defense system of releasing clusster bombs in their immediate area to wipe out everything in their vicinity when rushed. Whoa. That'll be interesting.

Kinda bummed the MC appears to have 4 defense tokens to the ISD's 5, aren't the MC known for being the tutrle ships with multiple shield generators, redundant systems throughout the ship, and being hard to crack? Unless the new tokens are something offensive, I'd have thought the MC would be more defensible than the ISD.

Also, I love all the new ships for sure. But does anybody else think the MC looks a little small, just overall very narrow? I thought they were more robust than that unless it's just a funky angle.

Either way, I am psyched!

FFG how do I direct my tax refund to you?

can anyone make out what the rogues and villans will be besides the obvious ones.

I know it's been mostly answered, but here's the names of the ships from left to right (minus all the "light freighter/attack fighter/prototype bomber" stuff): Firespray, YT-1300, HWK-290, Scurrg H-6, YT-2400, YV-666, Aggressor, JumpMaster 5000.

The Mon Cal frigate was in the 2006 star wars game Empire at war. That's were I knew it from anyway.

Yeah, I'm seeing that. The design apparently dates back to sketches done for ship models to be used in "Return of the Jedi" (although this one was obviously not included in the final film):

Makes me wonder, though, with news of this out, if FFG isn't hurting their own sales. It's weird-ish looking at first, but it's growing on me.

I mean, the thought of this on the table, alongside a Mon Cal cruiser and a couple CR90s and couple Nebulon-Bs...

That just looks like Star Wars, to me.

Who is going to buy the truly hideous Assault Frigate Mk II to put in that fleet?? It stands out like a sore thumb...

The Assault Frigate Mk. II is from the same game. Actually, the Mon Calamari Frigate is the MC30c, and it's from the expansion to Empire at War, Forces of Corruption. It was a good game that introduced a "scum" faction called the Zann Consortium (or as I call it the Mary Sue Consortium). The MC30c featured a few lasers cannons sure, but the whole ship was built around an array of proton torpedo tubes, with cluster bombs to take out any fighters that got nearby. So yeah, it's a torpedo boat, basically. And a real paper dragon.

If you're playing the Imperials then yell and scream all you want. Now feel your hate... I mean need grow.

Remember, the MC series started life as luxury liners and exploration ships. Star Destroyers were made from the keel up to intimidate and destroy as warships.

At least the Rebel cruisers are cheaper, and probably not just in real-world purchase cost.

Patients. This is the Jedi way and as a Rebel player you must learn to live in the here and now and not seek adventure.

Patience.

Patients are found in hospitals and usually put there by Imperials for minding their own business. =)

*Don't mean to be that guy. It just cracked me up to see patients/hospital clients advertised as the solution to something. "You need to injure more people, Commander! And I want the ALIVE!"

So… did anyone see the number of attack dice and shield stats of the ships? I can’t make them out from the pictures

Defense tokens aren't the only way to represent a ship's defense. There's also the shields and engineering values, which might be pretty high.

OMG, can't believe I totally called the Rogues and Villains months ago - exactly that name and many of the same ships LOL

*checks computer for FFG wiretap* :P will have to tell them where to send my cheque ;)

This is awesome. Now I just need to hope that I can use a pair of Imperial-II s in 300 points, or that they come out with the Immobilizer-418 in Wave 3 so I can use one of those and an ISD in a build (and I might need to scratch-build one and stick it on a Gladiator base as an interim solution). To me, that is one of the fluffiest combinations (yes, I played the Balance of Power campaign a lot...plus, it wasn't an uncommon combination under Thrawn's command) - Interdictor to ensure the Rebel cowards can't run, and a Star Destroyer with the firepower and fighters to enforce the Emperor's will.

I'm also hoping that the MC30c isn't as frustrating to face as it was in Empire at War: Forces of Corruption. The "oh hey, I'm a frigate with tough shields so you can't kill me with guns, engines so I can hit-and-run and you won't be able to hit me with torps, an anti-fighter laser turret and cluster bombs so I can easily dispatch the only thing that can catch me, and a ton of torpedoes so your shields are worthless" thing got really old, really fast. <_<

Exactly. Remember that there was a reason Ackbar didn't want to mix it up with Star Destroyers at Endor, and only did so as an absolute last resort.

Mon Cal Cruisers are sturdy, but by no means are they invulnerable. I expect that their hull, engineering, and shield values will be in the same ballpark as the ISD, especially given that we're getting the superior Home One -type cruiser. Of course, an MC80 is hilariously outgunned compared to an ISD, and it wasn't until the MC90 that the Rebels had a viable ship-of-the-line produced in their own shipyards that could meet a Star Destroyer on even terms.

Now I'm just hoping they didn't include some silly 'hey, take your couple snubfighters and blow up the bridge domes to kill the shields' mechanic in the Star Destroyer. That was only ever in the video games (and the books based directly on them) as a balancing mechanism. Otherwise, Hobbie wouldn't have been so pessimistic about taking two X-Wings up against an Imperial-II .

(and yes, I've seen ROTJ. Remember that Ackbar ordered the entire Rebel fleet to fire on the Executor , not just a trio of A-Wings.)

Definitely getting an MC80 and a pair of MC30s the day this comes out. The MC30C is my favorite ship from Empire at War and its expansion with my offensive Rebel Squadrons in Forces of Corruption having at least 3 or 4 of them.

Excellent! I'm very pleased to see ISD and Mon Cal cruiser, Milenium Falcon.

But I'm a little bit desapointed to not see other ship from the univers from Star Wars Rebellion of from the very first extended univers ship like:

Lancer Frigate, Carrack cruiser, correlian gunship, Strike cruiser, Dreaghnout (from both side), Bulk cruiser, Escort carrier (Quasar Fire-class and Imperial escort carrier )...

None of this one in wave 1 or 2 :( Hope it'll change...

And once again the Imp's 'Large' star fighters contain 0 Imperials.

Bounty Hunters for the empire...... Not Decimators. Not Lambdas. Not Missile Boats.

That is really the only thing disappointing.

Right - this I genuinely do not understand. The Imperial "large" fighters are the "dud" of the wave, if you asked me to choose one.

Id hardly call them the 'dud'

But i agree we should be getting imperial equipment not bounty hunters in the second wave like the Star wing missile boat, Skipray blast boat, lambda shuttle....

Oh well I will have them all happily

Something i just noticed on all those dials for the RaV pack, all of them have 6-8 numbers for HP. These guys are going to be beefy sons of guns.

Okay, I have internet access again, and HNN reflects has the Truth-news about all this:

KDY to Enable Crushing of Rebellion, Criminal Elements

Also, I have added the news to the wiki
