Imperial Assault: Twin Shadows

By patox, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Nice! It's crazy to think that we're just getting started. I'm really anxious to see what new heroes will (hopefully) be in that box, and perhaps a new Imperial class deck?! That'd be cool.

ooooh, a class deck that makes more use of the Scum and Villainy elements would be nifty. Might be more of a major expansion thing though.

The thing on his shoulder means that the character is a sand trooper, so I expect part of the campaign to be set on everyone's favourite desert planet and that one of the new monster groups will be sand troopers.

I also expect some love for scum in the box, to make them viable for skirmish, especially since "shadows" is used in the name. So I'm guessing that a scum group will be in the box.

Rebels to get 2 New hero's, similar to a descent expansion, plus the droids.

That will give all 3 factions a similar boost.

The mini campaign won't be side missions it will be story missions, although I expect less than in the core campaign. There will be side missions included for the hero's and possibly a couple from agenda sets.

A small descent expansion will typically include a new class.

The 3 figure packs will include side missions and skirmish maps as usual.

Awseome news on the expansion, but I think there was a bigger bit of news here:

I think we all expected it after the Asmodee merger, but it's good to have it stated as fact.

Yes!

I'm in agreement with everything there. However I imagine the mini campaign missions can also be played as one off side missions in the core campaign.

Definitely expect some scum love.

Nice breakdown mulletcheese.

I'd be a bit surprised by that Muzz333, but I guess it could work.

With side missions in the currently shipping expansions, some extras in Twin Shadows, and some more in the accompanying expansions I think the Side Mission deck will be well stocked.

I bet without a doubt we'll be seeing some Tuskens and Gamorrean Guards. I WANT to believe that they would include a Rancor, but I'm sure they already have plans for some super deluxe Jabba's Palace expansion for that one. :P On second thought, I could see the Gamorreans being held for that too. Having at least one more large figure would be cool though. If it is Tattooine based, a Dewback Stormtrooper could be pretty cool.

That's how the Descent mini campaigns worked. Could either be played back to back as a mini campaign or integrated as side missions into the core campaign.

I think the important thing to note is we already have sand tiles. This Tattoine mini campaign will flush those tiles out. Thus saving the big box expansion for Hoth. :D

Gotcha. Does Descent work the same way with the deck system?

I guess the only part that seems weird is you could have Named Character X pop in for a cameo in the middle of a different campaign.

Lair of the Wyrm maintains this philosophy by introducing quests that can supplement an existing campaign, rather than replacing it. In other words, an expansion like Lair of the Wyrm presents a storyline that can be made to run concurrently with that of the campaign it’s supplementing. To be clear, the quests in Lair of the Wyrm can certainly be played as independent experiences. If quick, “one-off” quests suit your play group, simply choose one and go. In addition to its Rumor cards, Lair of the Wyrm features new Travel Event cards.

If, on the other hand, your group prefers the narrative progression of a campaign, you’ll have two options. First, special rules will be made available on our support page for adapting Lair of the Wyrm ’s series of into a single, standalone campaign. Alternatively, the Rumor card system is a way to workLair of the Wyrm ’s quests into a larger campaign, as “side quests.”

Side missions were added later in Descent. However a deck of three side quests could be made after the first mini campaign.

Yup, I'd bet my pants that the Empire Strikes Back era will be the big box. Certainly makes sense. Hoth tiles, some other new tile, (cloud city, maybe?) wampas, and we'll definitely be seeing Lando, Leia and Jedi Luke as figure packs. I would bet the campaign starts on Hoth and then branches out, making use of the other tiles.

In fact, I could see that being a reliable expansion model.

Big Box (Core) - A New Hope era, core, etc

Small Box - In between time (in this case, Tattooine)

Big Box - Empire Strikes Back era (Hoth, Cloud City stuff)

Small Box - In between time

Big Box - Return of the Jedi era (Jabba's Palace, Endor stuff)

Small box - In between time

Big Box - The Force Awakens :o

Isn't the Descent 2e campaign structured differently?

I'd more suspect this'll have side missions that can be and story missions that don't really mesh. Given the time period system, this makes sense, expands two different campaigns (core with expansion sides, expansion with core sides). I wouldn't be surprised if it included rules for both appending it onto a core campaign or being separate.

time will tell.

Cores inbetween movies already (post death star 1 demise) 2nd and 3rd originals both have fairly substantial time periods that are squipped mid movie I'm fairy sure, so plently of in movie space for several campeigns. And then One small box covering 30 years till Ep 7?

Ultimately it is all speculation at this point. However, I'd be mildly disappointed if it proves to be a mini campaign that can't be used to bolster the core campaign other than additional heroes. Otherwise I'd rather just have big box expansions. I'm sure we will get more info soon with an official announcement on the FFG news page.

And nothing I said conflicts with that.

An appended story makes sense. Side missions that can be mixed in also do. Story missions intended as a coherent story just wouldn't mix in as side missions given the random selection of side missions. Seems odd that they'd produce a structure and method of producing side missions and then scrap it for the first expansion, and jsut adding a storyless bunch of sides seems a waste of an expansion, thats what boosters are for after all...

My suspicions gives the following options;

1. Core story + core sides

2. Core story + core sides + H/V sides

3. Core story + core sides + expan sides

4. Core story + core sides + expan sides + H/V sides

5. Core story + expan story + core sides + expan sides

6. Core story + expan story + core sides + expan sides + H/V sides

You may very well be right. We don't know yet how this will work out. However I can say I'm excited!

If it follows Descent we are probably looking at two new groups. I feel at least one of these has to be a scum group. The other I'm leaning towards Sand Troopers. If they behave any different to Storm Troopers of course. Otherwise, I don't know. I think Jawas would be pretty awesome.

Maybe a 2 man sandtrooper card each with a heavier weapon than the stormtroopers. Would tie in to the visual look we expect and still make sense to field them with stormtroopers without feeling redundant.

A three man scum group, something lighter/longer range woulld be great.

I talked to my friend (the one mentioned earlier at the show)... Tatooine is definitely in the campaign.

To elaborate a little, to me, the iconic sandtrooper look is of one holding a DLT-19.

Any other juicy information?

Yep, It would also standout from the other stormtroopers, too.

The last small box expansion for D2e contained 6 missions, 3 of which were longer finale type missions.

I know there are some character expansions here with the campaign expansion - but I'm guessing the expansion box itself will have some mini's as well yes? Does that seem reasonable? maybe 1-2 new heroes, and 4-6 new imperial / scum characters/minis?
