Good Auto-Dash list?

By heychadwick, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi All,

I finally got my Wave 5 stuff recently at the same time as Scum. I've also taken a week vacation and had little time to play all the new stuff I've gotten. Now, I usually don't play Rebels and I usually hate the YT's. I read someone take an Auto Dash list to an event and did really well. I love the idea of doing something different with a big, turreted ship and want to try it. Everyone is going to be running Scum lists and I want something different. So.....let me know if this is a good list.

Dash Rendar w/ Outrider, Autoblaster, Lando, Engine Upgrade, and Assault Missile

Luke Skywalker w/ R2-D2, Lonewolf, and Shield Upgrade

Now, I'll admit that some things are odd on this list, but I had filled out Luke and Dash and had a bunch of points left over. Not enough for another ship, but I only had so many upgrades. The Assault Missile is odd, but what else was I going to spend the points on? I figure this list is worried by swarms, so I can splash some damage around with a TL and Focus in one turn. I was tempted to put a Proton Torpedo on Luke as his Lonewolf would work better to make sure it hit, but the Assault would be better against a swarm (which is a tough opponent for the list).

Now, I wanted something to trail behind Dash to fire at things and read about a Luke w/ Lonewolf list that did really well. I was thinking it could be pretty easy to stay out of R2 against a Dash that was trying to get in someone's grill. So, he sounded idea. Once again, there were about 11 pts left and I figured I'd go ahead and give him a shield upgrade to help keep him alive.

Is this the best build for Dash? Should I do something different? What about Luke? I won't have to worry about Phantoms too much in the games I play. I'm not asking if this is tournament smashing. It's for playing with the local guys who are probably all trying out Scum lists.

Awesome. I was wondering why this hasn't caught on yet... I've been off the forums for a few weeks but I've been interested in Auto-Dash for a while now. I've played a few games and my list had mixed results.

With Luke on your side, swarms might not be your weakness...and your autoblaster can oneshot ships with proper action economy... I would say your weakness would be anything with a Decimator or something with a lot of hitpoints. The autoblaster turret of Dash is just amazing against any high agi/low health ship, for obvious reasons. A proper decimator build with engine (thinking Chira) could just run and shoot at you all day...good firespray players could do the same. How do you counter this?

You need to build the rest of your list around this weakness, to compliment it. You want to be close and not be sniped at or kited around the board. You need the rest of your list to help in this area. To counter Decimators you need a few more guns at your disposal to whittle them down quickly. You also need action economy for your autoblaster.

This is what I would do. Based on your points (96) listed, I think you also have PTL on Dash for a 99 point list... If you don't, I'd start there. Next, I'd drop Lando for Kyle Katarn. As much as I love the gambling man, his place just isn't in this list. You need surefire action economy here with autoblaster. When you strike you need to roll as many hits as possible each time. Also, drop Assault Missile to make room for some more ships.

Now Dash looks like this: Dash Rendar, Outrider Title, Kyle Katarn, Engine Upgrade, Autoblaster. Push the Limit (56 Points).

This is what I would start with. Some may arugue that Engine Upgrade isn't needed in this build because of the native barrel roll, but I'll let you make that decision. You could have either 48 points to play with, or 44.

If you have 48 points you can fit exactly 4 bandits to escort your dash. Use them to block high priority targets to slow them down and get dash close to blast away. If you face Decimators focus all fire on the decimators with the Zs and hope they can last a few rounds to finish them off. Might have to angle some shots depending on how maneuverable that decimator is.

With 44 points your options are less flexible, but you still have some choices. Two blues fit right in this niche. They are strong enough to hurt a decimator and durable enough to survive a few attacks. Try to keep them close to Dash to focus fire in case dash can't finish something off. Another option you have here is two bandits with Airen Cracken. If you can keep Airen alive and close to Dash the first couple of rounds it lets you boost/barrel roll after combat has started before dash gets to shoot. This means you might be in range 2 of the target you want at the end of the round, but all of a sudden you can get into range one to take that crucial shot. You still get three guns with this setup and that should help you against low/no agi targets.

Another configuration with the 3 Zs if you have 44 points left is to do two bandits with Blount and an Ion Pulse Missile. This set up guarantees you will hit with your IPM on your high priority target and ensure dash can get close enough to blast him up.

The options are out there...this list may not be the most competitive and I'm sure it has flaws, but it is really fun to try. I love Luke a lot, but I just couldn't fathom going against a Decimator and trying to burn through all of that hull. Maybe in a tournament setting you could go after the decimator escorts and run out the time, but your Dash isn't invincible.

What was the list I ran with? I chose the two blues. Blues have firepower...they have durability...they complimented my autoblaster well. Fun list overall and I'm looking forward to tweaking it to be even better. There has to be something efficient out there.

Also, ran across this old gem in my squad builder archive... http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/210541/fat-auto-blaster

Yep. I had PTL there. OK....go with Kyle instead. I was unsure about Lando, but he's new and looks fun. I've never used Kyle, either, though.

I think maybe 2 B-wings would do it. "Auto-Dash Has the Blues".

How would you fly this list against a bunch of B-wings?

A bunch of B-wings would be tough...something like BBBBZ... You really just have to focus fire and hopefully you can dodge a few arcs on dash and your green dice hold up. The initial engagement is important. You want to end turn one out of arc (don't rush in too fast), and want to end turn two within range one of your target and hopefully out of a few arcs. If all three of your ships can shoot at the same B-Wing you have a really good chance of taking it out in one turn. You will probably get blocked for action denial, but if you were stressed the previous turn (and you should be) you will at least get a focus from Kyle which you could use for defense. If things work out and you aren't blocked you can double focus and TL...or TL and barrel roll/boost to get out of arc. You have a lot of options and 3v2 with a focus on your side isn't terribly bad. Just use your movement as much as possible.

The other thing you can do is place asteroids to your advantage. Remember that you are still dash and can move onto an asteroid and move off of it with boost barrel roll. You can force you opponent to split up their formation or split their fire with cleverly placed asteroids. Who knows, they may even target your Blues first to reduce your overall firepower. If that's the case then you definitely need to down a ship per turn because those blues won't last. We're talking 14 dice vs 5 D total if they all get to shoot the same target. That list kind of goes back to facing decimators. A tough match up for sure...just having a ton of health, but a decimator can only attack once each turn, so in that regard a BBBBZ list would be tougher.

I'll have to figure out how to place asteroids for Dash. That will be a new one!

Yeah, I think I'll have to have Dash bolt up the side through an asteroid field and try to get him to split his forces.

I got one game in last night with the list. I'm still trying out all sorts of lists.

I played against Kath Scarlet, 2 Hvy Scyks w/ Manglers, and a regular Scyk. I spread a lot of asteroids around the middle area. He came in for my 2 B-wings, but they had asteroid cover from most of the shots. I zipped in with Dash on the flanks. I could boost within Range 1, but if I boosted straight, I would land on an asteroid and get no shots. If I boosted to the left, I would miss the asteroid, have the shot, but maybe be in some firing arcs. Well, I wanted to get mixed in as it was my first game of the night. I boosted left and did 2 hits on a Scyk. They then ALL had shots on me and hit me hard. I had damaged hull at the end of it with a crit. The next turn, I ended up in Kath's rear arc at R1 and was blasted to pieces. Bleh.

The B's did good and I ended up smashing some Scyks before losing, but it wasn't as much fun as the point was to try Dash out. At least I learned it's better to be patient and get behind them.....but not Kath.
