Ion Bomb or Ion Mine?

By EbongHawk, in X-Wing

Everyone is saying that 7 will be ordinance heavy. Probably True. Since they entered bombs into the game though I have been waiting for an ion weapon to fill the slot. So now with rebs and scum being able to drop these and people asking for more y-wing buffs I do't see a better excuse to toss one of these in. Ion Bomb 1 damage 1 ion to everyone at range one or Ion Mine 1 damage 2 ion to overlapping ship. Also, because FFG hasn't released a bomb with a range greater than one I left ion bomb there but I had aslo consider 1 damage to range 1 and 1 ion up to range 2. Unlikely I know but no totally unrealistic. Thoughts?

What about an Ion Mine that doesn't explode at all? Maybe something like the Proximity mine template that just stay in place and gives an ion token to anything that flys over it...

Only if it deals no damage otherwise seismic charge would be largely redundant.

I like it. Something like it might happen. They went ahead and did ion torps. I'm sure they wouldn't want to make bombs unbalanced, so this might not happen, but I'd love to see bombs go out to range 2. They're so situational this would help a lot. Some of the scum stuff helped, but you have to build a ship specifically as a bomber to make it happen. I'd like to see a TIE Bomber be a threat simply because it can drop a powerful bomb. Remember the seismic charges in Episode II? Those explosions were huge! That should have been out to range 2, while the powerful effect of bypassing shields with the proton bomb could stay at range 1.

Alex Davy stated that bombers will like wave 7...there is no indication of what that means exactly.
most people (including me) suspect there will be a way to make bombs cheaper or more efficient as well as a new Bomber or some sort...

Ion Mines actually have some in-universe support, as Warlord Zsinj used them in the Wraith Squadron novel.

Not unrealistic no, altough we have ion torpedo's. For me it would be fun if you could drop a droid token with 1 hull that shoots one enemy ship that enters its range 1 with one attack dice in a 360 arc. You'd have to shoot it to destroy it, the droid has no green die :)

The droid remains untill destroyed.

Love the idea of an Ion mine / bomb, hate the idea of a range 2 blast. Range 2 and 5-forward templates are equidistant, so only ships that can perform a 5-forward maneuver or K-turn could escape the blast of their own ordnance. A circular range 2 damage zone takes up a massive swath of the board and is just a bit ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, it'd be badass to drop a range-2 ordnance and then 5K with a TIE Bomber, but that's the only platform it'd be feasible on out of the 5 or so ships in the game that can take bombs.

Ion mines, though, would be awesome and would lead to some hilarious asteroid shenanigans. Stress mines, too, perhaps? Like a Flechette Mine / Flechette Bomb? That would make Emon the master of control.

I hadn't considered the idea of no damage. All of the other ion weapons do one but I suppose for a range 2 trade off and a low(ish) price point that could be kind of a neat weapon.

Stress mines, too, perhaps? Like a Flechette Mine / Flechette Bomb? That would make Emon the master of control.

Now what am I supposed to post tomorrow! Auto blaster mines? Thanks a bunch :)

I'm currently URL-guessing for Ion bomb as part of my bothan spynet project, but I'll add mine and empion mines to the list.

Stress bomb, stress bomb, you're my stress bomb!

With the Ion bomb making seismic worthless if it did damage, it would be probably 4pts (my guess). Personally I would like to see more Mines, (hopefully ones that don't cost actions) to clog up asteroid lanes, make arc dodgers choose obstacle or bomb or shot/no shot

The stress mine is called debris field ;-)

Stress bomb:

Large ship only.

Action: Drop a debris cloud token.

5 points

Takes the bomb slot, would have a lore background, would bring debris clouds into the tournament scen, so everyone would be happy!

There was a big Ion bomb used in the last episode of season one of STAR WARS REBELS.

Of course that was a stolen TIE packed with individual bombs but the precedent for bombs has been made.

Ion Pulse Mine

Action: discard this card to drop 1 Ion Pulse Mine

When a ship executes a maneuver, if its base or maneuver

template overlaps this token the token detonates.

When this bomb token detonates every ship at a range of one

of the token rolls three attack dice and receives one ion token for

each hit and one damage and one ion token for each critical hit result.

Ion Bomb - no damage causes two Ion Tokens. Take that Fat Han.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if there was a bomb or mine with an ion effect - loads of fun - particularly with Emon

More of the funky stuff please ;)

Discharging tokens doesn´t mean they always have to be bombs ;) (it can also be supportive for you instead of destructive for the enemy ;) )

Distraction bomb (lasers): (affecting actions)

All enemy ships in range 1-2 cannot perform actions next round.

Gravity bomb: (affecting maneuverability)

In range 1-2, after performing your maneuver, you have to barrel roll to the bomb direction (you cannot boost or barrel roll this round) (Or something similar affecting maneuverability).

Target Lock buoy": (affecting ordnances)

Small token letting you skip the "spend target lock" activity for firing torpedoes and missiles when you are in range 1-2.

Tracking buoy: (affecting maneuverability)

Small token: When you perform a maneuver inside range 2 or finish inside range 2, you may treat this maneuver as a white maneuver this round (like a Leia token ;) ).

2 ion no damage bomb/mine probably 3pts? No damage makes me a little reluctant to drop much on it. You still get an attack and if its a bomb you get an action too but at the end of the day its still a no damage ordinance.

Astroid Bomb - you can drop an extra asteroid.

Astroid Bomb - you can drop an extra asteroid.

I know they aren't thematic nazis or anything but I think the asteroids may be just a touch bigger than the ordinance bay would allow on most ships. Maybe the baby asteroid in the Decimator though :)

Did we get both!?!?!? Ion bombs and connor nets. Haha I was pretty sure we'd get one ion munition to drop but if we get get both I may have to start making more predictions.
