Supplies for Remodeling and painting

By Urist McDwarf, in X-Wing

Hi all, I've been playing this game for a while now with a couple of friends, and really it is fantastically good fun. I know you do get a lot of new-people threads, so first my apologies, and secondly, my question: what kind of paints and tools do I need to start doing modifications and remodeling for my ships?

I am an avid designer (we've made a few board games in our time for game nights), and already have quite a few paints but does X-Wing need anything specific? And I've seen a lot of additions to ships on the forums here like the Falcon: is that all 3D printed or did they use some other design method? Finally, what is the best material to use as a glue if a model is broken?

Sorry for the host of questions, and answers will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

No need to apologise. Don't have time right now for any in depth answers but here are two quick ones. Many of the modified ships use a type of styrene plastic usually refered to as plasticard. Repairs are usually done with super glue.

I asked the question about glue already, and here is the thread:

The consensus was Zap-A-Gap, and I've used it to great effect (my regular generic superglue wasn't cutting it).

For smoothing out seams and modeling rounded areas (curved cockpit, etc.) people frequently use "green stuff" or another two-part epoxy modeling compound.

Also, don't starve to death while you are looking for the materials for your mysterious construction!

Haha, thanks! I'll definitely look all of that up and get started on something or other.
