New player wanting deck ideas

By 0Dark, in Warhammer 40,000: Conquest

Hi all

I'm new to 40k Conquest, but not to CGs or games in general - Hell, I remember when Space Hulk v1.0 only cost £20!

So, I picked up a core set of 40k Conquest at my FLGS, along with Howl of Blackmane, Gift of the Ethereals and Zogwort's Curse (I know ideally I should have snaffled up 2 core sets, by my FLGS only had the one). I always favoured Eldar in the golden days when I had a huge Ulthwe army, followed closely by the 3rd Company Dark Angels.

Can anyone suggest a couple of decks - either Eldar or Space Marines to get me started, and I can come up with my own tester decks for the other factions (unless someone has a truly awe-inspiring Dark Eldar/Tau/Chaos/Ork/Imperial Guard - I'm old skool - deck they would like to share).

Thanks in advance

Forgot to mention - I'll be getting The Scourge by the weekend

Well ideally you pick up your second and third Core set first, mainly because SM relies heavily on it but also Eldar has it's key-cards in the Core set.

After that you can go either Ragnar, Cato or Eldorath currently.

Ragnar can be seen as an great first planet bully, often commiting to the first planet and thus gaining the potential to win the game fast.

Cato on the other hand focusses on ideal battles to be won, using it's income to be able to put down larger bodies as your opponent and disrupt set ups.

Eldorath currently is very ideally set for the game due to Gift of Isha, Warlock Destructor and Empower. Allowing him to play a strong Control game but also Aggro provided Warlock Destructor is put on the first planet.

Now I could go deeper into decks but for the SM and Eldar builds to work you need the Core set 3 times...

Ok, Amazon has core sets for £25, looks like I'll be picking up another couple of copies

Go for it! Core is core and won't rotate out either so it seems to be the most solid buy anyway.
