FIRST PERSON X-WING!

By SpikeSpiegel, in X-Wing

I thought it would be interesting to take a few shots with my GoPro at our most recent Store Championships for some first person X-Wing action. No super-special editing and this is not a battle report in any way, just the best shots I was able to pick from the footage I had. I should have recorded a lot more, but I was worried it'd be too distracting. I'll do my best to get more footage in next time!

Enjoy!

OMG I love your Blue Angels X-wings. So good.

Also really love how you play - great sportsmanship and fantastic rules expertise. Looks like fun.

For your opponent, it's 2nd person X-Wing. ;)

Thank you, I do my best to be respectful and responsible when it comes to the game. I kept forgetting my R2-D2 triggers on Wedge, which could be argued cost me the game. But I don't like to go back on missed triggers for my own benefit. Same goes for the R3-A2 trigger against the ABBY matchup.

Also, I love my Blue Angels X's too! I was trying to get a 3rd one in there but I was way too lazy to finish painting it lol

Next time, I'm gonna do a "rolling the dice" shot and roll my GoPro with the dice since you can thrash GoPros quite heavily while they're in their case! :D

Looks like your TO was able to deftly avoid the camera.

That was fun to watch. You should do that at regionals; edit it to just the awesome moments.

I'd love to watch, but I'm getting motion sickness just looking at the still image (which shouldn't be possible, but here we are).

Nice, I saw your rig there, and wondered how the video would turn out -- cool idea!

What was your list, out of curiosity?

Cool idea!

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Wedge Antilles (29)

Predator (3)

R2-D2 (4)

Veteran Instincts (1)

R3-A2 (2)

(32)

Luke Skywalker (28)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Total: 100

I liked the high PS and their ability to be threatening and survivable in many ways.

Very cool. How'd you end up doing? I got a couple of raised eyebrows there for bringing 3 X-wings. I know they're not the most competitive ship right now, I just like 'em. :)

Another win and he would have made top 8. I believe it was the surly fellow in the yellow Hawaiian shirt that moved on in his place.

I thought this post was going to be about the PC game.

That ending though.....

B Wings on Endor I'm guessing?

I thought this post was going to be about the PC game.

Me too! But I really like what it turned out to be. Every time I watch others playing this game, I learn something.

Mr. Spiegel wore that thing on his head like a coal miner all afternoon. I thought for sure we were going to get an 8+ hour video, with yours truly acting like an imbecile in the background.

I ended up going 2-2, possibly due to major pilot error on my behalf (hence, the "R2-D2" written on my hand as a reminder) and some really good flying against my opponents. I wasn't on top of my game and was flying recklessly and not thinking things as thoroughly as I usually do, but that doesn't give any means of discredit to my opponents who were excellent players as well!

We also did a 200v200 epic "Escape From Endor" game after the final round with some players where the rebels had to destroy the Lamda before it reached their corner of the table and flew off! It was a lot of fun, we made up the objectives on the spot and came up with rules like insta-death by explosion if you hit a tree! :D

And I wish I had 8+ hours to record from, but my battery was low that day and of the 2 hours I shot, some of the footage was lackluster/irrelevant/uninteresting/poorly positioned. I plan on doing this again for regionals with extra batteries and memory cards and making a super-edit for a really nice first-person X-Wing video, possibly in multiple cuts for multiple rounds and then a big "overall" video for the regional. Heck, I'd like to get some other players besides me to wear the cam, and I'm sure many of them would be willing to!
