Removing Opton ads?

By Marinealver, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Well after trying several anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anti-ad-ware programs arrow-10x10.png and I am still I still get these intrusive opt on ads that literally insert themselves in between threads and forum boards.

Anyone know how to get rid of them?

What? I've never seen what you're describing on this forum.

Are you the chosen one?

I've never seen them. Try Adblock. It also kills the youtube commercials

Nope just the special one that tried to down-load an overlay and forgot to ucheck the ass on however I think this ad was more malicious then just requiring you to remove it with the control panel. It gets real annoying because it inserts ads in the forum sometimes even between posts and thread splitting the board in half. Here are some screen shots.

It is not a normal YouTube ad which is legitimate and I don't mind. This is some grayhat ad that is very intrusive in the browser. It is not a pop up it literally enters in your browser. Somehow it is not considered illegal but it is defiantly not legitimate.

Also I had to break up d-ownload because it starts putting in hype-rlinks that I never put in.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling your browser. You can backup your bookmarks if you really need to, then re-import them.

Thanks for the advice. I did one step lower and after removing the unwanted extensions I also went to chrome advanced and reset the settings. This appears to stop Opt On from re-installing itself.

Still I just might go for a browser re-install. That is one step below a full system reset.

A full reset may be a bit much. How long ago did the ads start? Was it after installing a specific program?
If it was fairly recent, you could restore from an automatic backup. I know Windows does this, but I don't know about Mac.

They started yesterday. I ended up uninstalling and re-installing chrome. So far now they have stopped.

Statistically speaking, Church websites on average have more malicious content than adult websites, because the people who maintain them are as computer-savvy. Dirty sites want you to come back, and you can't do that if your browser is hijacked.
