solving multiple critical damages in the same action phase

By MarioM, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I have some doubts about critical damages:

1- If Vader receives two identical critical damages ("Console Fire", for example), may I flip both cards in the same action phase?

2- If Vader receives two different critical damages with the same action text ("Damaged Sensor Array" and "Structural Damage"), may I try to flip both cards in the same action phase?

3- If Vader receives two different critical damages with the different action text ("Damaged Sensor Array" and "Weapon Malfunction"), may I try to flip both cards in the same action phase?

The action for upgrade cards is the name of the card providing the action so;

1. No, as this requires doing the same action twice in a turn (in your example, the "console fire action".)

2. Yes. These are classed as different actions

3. Yes. See above.

Now, if Vader is dealt a crit that flips over as a non-action (example: 2x Blinded Pilot) and meets the criterion for flipping them, both resolve simultaneously.

In other words, drawing 2 Blinded Pilot crits on the same turn only results in 1 attack having no dice, instead of 2.

1. No, as this requires doing the same action twice in a turn (in your example, the "console fire action".)

Now I have the hilarious image in my head of Vader furiously batting at the fire in his cockpit, but there are simply too many flames for the Dark Lord of the Sith to handle at once.

But vaders ability says he is allowed to perform 2 actions in the action phase. Why couldn't he resolve two of the same critical cards? Is he not allowed to declare two of the same action? The card doesn't say anything about that, and me and my friends have always assumed that he can perform two of the same action.

In the core rules, you cannot perform the same action twice in one round.

Note: That doesn't mean you can't gain the effects of an action multiple times. You can still Focus and receive a second Focus token from Garven Dreis, for example.

The core rulebook says that you cannot perform the same action twice in the same turn, regardless of the source of the action, and even if one of them is a free action.

So; Vader must choose 2 different actions.

When using Craken (or Lando), the free action that he gives out needs to be a different choice to the one the recieving ship has already performed.

Jake can't get the free boost from his ability if he has already boosted this turn, nor can Turr Phenir.

Push the Limit and Experimental Interface also have the same restrictions.

I had someone try and use Vader with Push the Limit in order to get three Evade actions each turn... until I pointed him to the "can't do the same action more than once" rule. :D
