Assault Concussion Missiles

By moffmalthus, in Star Wars: Armada

Okay so I'm trying to understand this card. Think I've got the rest down but the mechanics of this are eluding me... the card states that "Each hull zone adjacent to the defending hull zone suffers one damage." My question is what is considered adjacent? Would you play this card when being attacked and as the defender the attackers adjacent to you suffer a hull damage? Any things or insights here would be greatly appreciated!

I'm reading this to mean that if you attack the front hull zone and score a critical with a black die, you can use that critical effect to cause one damage to the left and right hull zones as well rather than deal a face-up damage card. Looks brutal to the poor little frigate list of my dreams... :-)

Concussion Missiles have a critical effect, which means that you spend 1 critical die to trigger their effect when attacking (in place of the generic critical effect of dealing 1 face-up damage). In this case, I believe it needs to be a black critical you spend. Then, each hull zone on the defender that is adjacent to the hull zone you attacked takes 1 damage. So, if you attack the front hull zone of a Nebulon-B and roll 2 hits and 1 crit on two black dice, you could normally deal 3 damage, and the first damage card would be face up. Instead, with Missiles, you can deal 3 damage to the front hull zone, and 1 damage to each of the side hull zones.

No, what it means is that, if you are targeting the fore zone, for example, both the left and the right hull zones on the targeted ship take one damage each.

But you do use a black dice critical effect and swap that normal result with the damage to adjacent zones?

Yes. In all cases, the critical will deal a damage, but you can choose to do the extra damage from Concussion Missiles in place of the normal face-up damage card.

The idea of this card is that you know what critical you will be making, instead of leaving it up to the draw from the damage deck. Would be interesting to compare the cost of this card to the critical composition of the damage deck.

Makes sense the way they showed that in the tourney fleet with Admiral Screed at the head. He can take any result once per turn per ship and make it a black crit result... that is scary! Seems like a bargain at 26 points for your fleet commander.

I'm still somewhat confused. Does this card bypass shields?

I have to agree... I would think it would have said directly to the hull and not hull zone if that were the case.

In the rule book each capital has four Hull Zones that have their own shield rating. So it is refering to the area, not the Hull. Now if there are no shields left then that could be 3 hull damage.

Will be reading over the rules again and will get this down by the end of the week. I even know who I will volunteer to be my first vict.... opponent to learn the game with.

Anyone else want to make a table that looks like a strategic Holo-table from the movies? It would be like two commanders directing from a command center.

I will put in my two cents worth:

Adjacent Hull zones will suffer 1 Damage each. If the zones have shields the damage will "be taken on the shield" and decrease them by 1 each. If an adjacent zone does not have shield the damage will be dealt as a facedown damage card and if neither have shields it will be 2 damage cards

That is a awesome idea!

As long as you then also paint your ships to look like wire models for that true holographic feel.

So how would this work with tokens like brace? Does brace work on one hull zone or the entire attack? If the entire attack, the who choses which zones still get hit?

Good question... anyone have a thought on this?

So how would this work with tokens like brace? Does brace work on one hull zone or the entire attack? If the entire attack, the who choses which zones still get hit?

All attacks are against a single Hull Zone.

Assault Concussion Missiles are a critical effect, which according to the L2P are resolved before calculating total damage, and thus would not be effected by Brace.

Brace halves damage rounding up, since its only one damage on each it doesn't really matter. Its either one or one
