New, er old power weapons.

By Face Eater, in Dark Heresy House Rules

One of players asked about a couple of power that we haven't found stated yet. I put these together a while and added a few others. I think they are pretty balanced but i doubt I'll have time to test any in a game so i'd especially like to hear if you do. I've put them over at Dark Reign which is a great reasource site BTW.

p.s. Yes the Terminator weapons are ridiculous but then they are supposed to be and you GM's are only ever going to have them so they can be ott right?

Powermaul:
The idea with the "differing field effect" is a nice gimmick, but as far as I read "mauls" are just old relicts that became rather obsolete by the time bladed weapons could be fitted with a powerfield. Personally, I would just treat them that way.

Poweraxe:
A nice one, but why is it that heavy? Comparing a "sword" and a "powersword", the difference is 0,5kg. Of course, one could assume that a larger weapon needs large generators and stuff... but compared to the "Greatweapon", the two-handed powerax comes +3kg. Not that it would REALLY matter..but I am picky gui%C3%B1o.gif

I don't remember reading that about powermauls and I thought they were still used widely by the arbites. Do you think I should make it unbalanced? I figured it being worse at parrying (with the powerfeild effect) would put many people off.

I guess I just wanted it to be significant investment of weight allowance but I probably went overboard considering how heavy great weapons anyway.

in much of the early 40K lore the Arbites used power mauls. the Arbites haven't been mentioned in any 40K gaming materials in quite some time. what i do recall was that they weren't power weapons as how we know them. they were referred to as such because they were ..well...powered. in fluff terms they functioned not by ignoring armour but by providing a big shock to its recipient.

in the Inquisitor table top game it was referred to as the Shock Maul rules wise...a Power Maul in the source material...i actually like the idea of both. relics of the past are intrinsic to the fluff. but i would make it a true power weapon. and then it becomes a symbol of meritorious service and/or office. the Shock Maul given to all Arbites.

as a reference to great weapons i have used the Warhammer RPG as my guide to items not listed in DH.

good work though.

@Power Mauls
Well, my only source for this is the table top game. But perhaps I am wrong and you are right, re-considering the post of liegekiller gui%C3%B1o.gif

Anyway, I would indeed simply make these weapons unbalanced... or even "unwieldy" if not used with STB 4.

@Power-Axe
Me thinks, simply adding 1 kg or 1,5kg to a the weigth of the "great weapon" should do the trick

Thanks for the input. These days on the table top power mauls are used by chaos troops. Old relics as Leigekiller said but there notes from previous versions about arbites using them. It was actually brought up by a player of mine who was a hammer weilding cleric and was looking at a power weapon in keeping with the theme.

I've added you idea of a strenght minimum Gregorius21778. I think looking at the models with the huge mace heads it makes sense.

Regarding the power fist, I don't think one could do anything at all with the hand encased inside that is not directly related to messily hurting people or breaking things - you'd likely have the manual dexterity of a boxing glove. Only with a good or best version would you have much of a chance at that.

And the Power Klaw... well, that thing is going to hurt.2D10+2+two times STR bonus... ork nobz get Unnatural Strength, so that would make it 2D10+18, Pen 8. Ouch. Didn't someone comment on the fact that Astartes were so unkillable?

I can't remember what i wrote about powerfists. I think the boxing glove anology is pretty close. Sure you could just about manipulate large objects, say steady a basic weapon, possible prod a very large button. But I was thinking that a space marine with a good qualtiy Powerglove would have enough dexterity to reload a bolter or elegant smaller gloves like Eldar would use (although they would probably be best quality).

I figured that if someone had enough money to throw at better quality powerfists that were made for non astartes they would probably get smaller and more elegent and dexterous as you don't really want to have to keep taking off. I'd still strongly suggest you use your other when you go for a whizz ;p

And yes, from what I'm aware of the TT at the moment have a Nob with a powerfist amongst a huge squad of boyz is what it's all about. Not that I'm suggesting throwing that at your acolytes.
