Second Printing Book Binding

By Kain McDogal, in Dark Heresy General Discussion

We all know about the Problems with the Book Binding of Dark Heresy Second Edition. Does anybody has any experience with the book binding of the second printing run, is it as bad as the first or has the quality improved?

There are problems with the binding?

News to me, what problems? I've got a copy and it's as solid as a rock.

Warnings about what not to do would be appreciated.

Oh and I have no idea what printing I've got. Is there a place to look it up?

SirRunOn,

Many people purchased copies of the Core Rule Book with binding glue that failed almost immediately. I received one of these, and had never encountered anything quite like it. It was literally being held together by the stitching. There has been widespread speculation as to the cause. Most common seem to be 1) Too many pages for this binding method or 2) A substandard printing run. Of course there have been others as well, but last I checked these were the leading contenders.

It is important to note that FFG has been replacing copies for those who report it. I bought my copy from Amazon. About a week after I filled out the online form for replacement (with photos, but no other proof of purchase, or identity), I got an email informing me that a new copy had been shipped. They didn't hassle me, ask for more information, or anything. That was some of the better customer service experiences that I have ever had.

I have the new copy but, to be honest, I haven't opened it yet. I'd hate to have the binding go on this one too.

Hopefully others will chime in with their experiences, and we'll all get a bit smarter about book production!

Same for me here. Bought via Amazon, and after filing the report (with some pictures for evidence) on the FFG page I got a replacement.

I haven't opened it as much as my first book, but I am pretty sure that the first one showed visible signs of deterioration within the first week. The replacement is still in top condition and doesn't make the creaking noice the first one did when opening it up (at least nothing out of the ordinary, every hardcover book creaks a little).

If you got the first printing I'm pretty sure you would have noticed by now.

Well then, that's a noticeable WHEW!

Btw, the new printing is VERY good. I've been scouring it letter by letter with my usual relish for fluff and ruleset. Not a page loose.
