which ship to get next? shuttle v firespray ?

By LukesandLadders06, in X-Wing

Hello all!

Predominantly a rebel player, But I want some iconic imperial ships for when I play with casual gamer friends. Also I'm a competitive x wing player, so which ship's cards are better for the rebel cause?

Thanks in advance!

Boba Fett!!!!11!!one!!1!!

Seriously, if you want to draw in some casual gamer friends, the Firespray will be more effective than a shuttle. Firespray also plays double duty if/when you grab a most wanted. Plus VI, HLC, bombs. Firespray has plenty of useful cards.

if you like b-wings, then Shuttle for sure. Advanced sensors is great and sensor jammer is nice to have too. The crew cards it comes with are mostly useless for rebels though, I believe.

Having said that, Firespray will get more use from a 'casual' imperial player since its easier to fly effectively. However, from a rebel perspective, Firespray only gives you the HLC. The rest of its cards aren't that great for rebels (maybe stealth for a-wings?). Of course, I can't remember all the cards it comes with, so I might be missing something.

The shuttle has some great upgrade cards, and yes it will pack a few system upgrades for your B-wings and E-wings as well. Firespray might see more table time since it can be used for Scum as well, and it has some decent cards as well. Personally I don't mind the shuttle at all, I find them fun to use and they can be effective for quite cheap prices in game.

Finding a Firespray may be difficult right now with the high demand. That might influence your decision more than you want it to :)

Firespray is more likely to go out of stock.

My FLGS got a huge stack of everything last week.

If I was only getting one I'd grab a Firespray since you can use it to build Scum squads as well when you get Most Wanted.

Yeah I can reserve ships so. I guess firespray?

Why not both?

$

Firespray. So when you pick up Most Wanted (3 ships for $40, or $30 online), you have another ship to play with.

I think the Firespray wins out, but I just picked up my first shuttle and boy does it look iconic! If you want an ship that looks like it belongs in an Imperial fleet, I don't think you can beat the shuttle.

For more cross faction use the firespray wins out.

But the shuttle adds so much to a specific empire squad, which I don't think the firespray does.

Given the choice I would generally take a shuttle over a firespray in an empire list.

I'd go Firespray, with the caveat that I'd call it about a 70/30 decision (I wouldn't hold it against someone who got a Lambda, or think they were wrong and/or stupid).

1) Potential double duty, if/when you pick up Scum.

2) More fun to fly casually (it does stuff itself, and lots of stuff, instead of being primarily a synergistic ship).

3) You get proximity mines and seismic charges, gunner and mercenary copilot, expose and veteran instincts, two stealth devices, assault missiles, homing missiles, and heavy laser cannon and ion cannons (italicized the really juicy stuff, or stuff that you really can't find elsewhere). That's a pretty sweet package of goodies, y'know?

4) The Lambda also gets some good stuff (HLC and Advanced Sensors are golden), but lots of its best stuff -- crew -- are Imperial only, so you can't pull double or triple duty with 'em. That, honestly, is the thing that leans me the most towards the Firespray, given your circumstances.

Firespray is great for the learning player but the shuttle is not its harder to fly it and do well though it has some good cards in the set.

Until Wave 6 came out, this was a very easy decision: Lambda, no question. The Lambda is still a great ship.

In fact: for a Rebel player who dabbles Imperial, and doesn't have Most Wanted, I'll say the question is still really easy: Lambda.

The Lambda shuttle is the Imperial Army Knife: it has a tool for every job you want it to do. It can be a long range sniper, a phenomenal support ship, and a good knife fighter. By comparison, as an Imperial ship, the Firespray is kind of an almost-as-good X-Wing. Advantage: Lambda.

The Lambda has a kind of wonky dial, it takes some getting used to, and has a major problem when someone gets behind it. The Firespray has that sweet rear arc. Advantage: Firespray.

The Firespray is a good ship- I've run it and had fun with it. But the Lambda simply does things that no other ship can do. If you don't plan on running Scum anytime soon, do your Imperial fleet a solid, and get the Lambda.

Now.....I'm stumped lol

I still think the availability kind of makes your decision for you. Get your Firespray while you can and pick up the shuttle later. The shuttle will still be great when you do get it.

Plus, if you're getting an Imperial large ship for other friends to play when they visit, you have get the Firespray. As others have said, it's much easier to fly than the shuttle. If you were the one flying it, I'd consider the shuttle. If it's primarily for others who don't own the game, the Firespray seems like the safer choice.

Firespray, for the reasons given above : it's much easier to fly casually and it will do double duty when/if you pick up Most Wanted.

Although the Shuttle does have some useful System Upgrades the Firespray basically wins every other reason hands down. Even in the upgrade department the Firespray has VI, HLC, Gunner, and a couple Stealth Devices which many rebel players may find useful.

For Most Wanted goodness (and due to limited availability) go with the Firespray.

The shuttle is a waaaay better ship though... you want 3+ of them.

I see sentiments like this a lot and for the life of me, I can't figure out if it's

a) sarcasm

b) literal

c) exaggeration

I mean, it's a good ship, but I can't really see how the normal X-Wing player would be able to use 3+ of them. One? Definitely! Two? Possibly. Three? Seems a bit excessive unless you are an Imperial player playing lots of epic games maybe.

Remember, the basic model is...what, 21 points?

Some folks run triple Bounty Hunter. It shouldn't be a shock that some other folks run, I dunno, quadruple Lambda, I guess. Four Lambdas is just 84 points, that's four points per ship worth of advanced sensors, fire control systems, cannons, engine upgrades, etc, etc...it could be kind of nasty.

I mean it... three shuttles gives you build options that you otherwise wouldn't have, and epic is a good format to be able to build toward. We play it fairly frequently at our local club.

Now to be fair we also have a club member that wants to run 7 Rookies vs. 7 OGPs in a single game.

2 OGPs with Engine Upgrades, Fire Control Systems, and Gunners

Capt Yorr with the same, and also Intelligence Agent.

Sablegryphon's Amazing Void Bison herd.

I like both, but if i have to choose one, I go with the firespray hands down.
