XXAE, ... and now what ?

By TaGaDa, in X-Wing Squad Lists

For my first tournament, i want to try something a little more dangerous that my last fun-to-play-but-you-lose squads.

I start my squad with 2 rookies. I love them, because they are not so pricey, and can take a little damage, they can arc cover the battlefield, and do a lot of damage. They are often my best guys, do the job when my aces (Tychos, Jake or keyan) died so quickly ...

I want to add something strong, a little scary if possible, and i WANT to kill with it, without been scary of losing an expensive ship. I choose Corran ^^

A prototype A-wing can do chaos , yeahh !

Corran XaX Squad

Corran Horn (35)

Rookie Pilot (21) x 2

Prototype Pilot (15)
A-Wing (17), Chardaan Refit (-2)

all that for 92 pts, here comes my choices for the last 8 pts :

- R2D2 and PTL for Corran, and it's done, 99pts !

Better, stronger, but what a hudge target ! if Corran died, my squad is nearly done

- 1 rookie goes Biggs, R2D2 for Corran

Safer or not ? Hard to kill, but not so deadly

- 2 Red squadron, PTL and R2 for Corran to fly green.

It's look like a clean squad, but the others looks fun too ...

Any advices ??

With Corran, I tend to go R2-D2. I use him as a drive by double-tapper. Get in, double tap and then fly the heck out. If you pull a green, you can regen a shield, giving you longevity to pull your rip and runs. R7-D1 is an alternate (cheaper) choice -- if you use it correctly, you can chain target locks and barrel roll right outside the enemy's firing arc. But more important than droid selection, in my mind, is your system upgrade. I always run either FCS or Advanced Sensors. FCS makes your drive bys even deadlier (and it eliminates the need for R7-D1). Advanced sensors gives you maximum maneuverability -- crucial when you're lining up a shot on an enemy and also dodging out of their arc.

In summary, when upgrading Corran, I would always start with his system upgrade first. Then worry about your automech second. FCS and Advanced Sensors are both far more valuable than a better droid.

I would say FCS & R2D2 on Corran is a must. The amount of times I have taken his second shot and landed nothing. This way you re roll your second shot, sprint out of the fray with some greens to up your shields. Rinse and repeat!

leaves 2 for initiative or something else!

R2-D2, V.I & FCS on corran horn

leave a point for initiative or for upgrading the an X for a B if you don't have a horrible OCD for symmetric lists like I do

If you want to fly a little differently, you can knock R2-D2 down to R7 astromech and then get two B-wings instead of X-wings

Gotta agree with this. As much as I love PtL Horn, VI + FCS is a strong build that doesn't leave you completely up a creek against higher PS builds.

Thank you for all the good advices.

I listen to JamieSpace bad memories, and OMG ! Poor Scarlett who land on an asteroid just for take 5 hit and a crit !

OK so FCS is a must. A second attack that hurt is a good attack !

R2D2 win is place for the tournament, because of the 6 shield he bring back to my Corran. In fact a WANT they shoot to him, so my Xwing can live longer.

OK for R2D2 !

With my 2 pts meft, I add a swarm tactic, because i'm sad to not have PS4 Red squadrons, and i could kill an obsidian TIE, just before he kill my Xwing.

May be i could do a lot of good other things with those 2 pts ... V.I., R3D2, a Red, a Green ?

It was a fun game, I start it with an epic fail in my 3 ships swarm (don't aks me), and lose my 2 rookies turn 3, but I win on the long way !

Now, i'm OK with the ships , Corran, 2 Xwing and an Awing, but I don't know if I keep the swarm tactic.

Any Suggestions ?
