Expecting Gama Trade Show Announcement?

By Killerardvark, in X-Wing

Looks like we really do get nothing. Maybe FFG actually listened when a bunch of us complained about getting spoiled too early and too often on future X-Wing releases.

Charts and graphs, no care. I want ships damnit!

I think what you mean to say is more along the lines of "Charts and graphs do not concern me, Danthrax, I want those ships."

Haha, perfect.

Strange how they devote an entire hour to Star Wars without a single new product announcement. Eh, I still don't have all of Wave 6 so honestly I'm good. If they don't announce anything until the Raider drops I'd be perfectly fine. Wave 4-6 all happened so fast it felt like...

They did happen so fast. Here's an illustration:

In an 11-month span (March 2014 to February 2015), we got:

Imperial Aces
Rebel Transport
Wave 4
Tantive IV
Rebel Aces
Wave 5
Playmats
Wave 6

...adding up to $525 in retail product. In the preceding 19 months (August 2012 to March 2014), we got:

Core Set
Wave 1
Dice Pack
Wave 2
Wave 3

...which added up to $272 in retail product.

It was a crazy, jam-packed year of X-Wing after a fairly slow initial year and a half in the game's life.

@gamergallant says he'll stop by the booth and try and see if he can get some Raider info (eta, any new pilots/upgrades, etc)

I believe Dice Tower already swung by. They had a model on display, but no cards. That fits the patterns of previous trade shows, where they've displayed models of upcoming ships, but no stats were listed for players.

Debris in that Raider pic?

Has this been brought up before? The bottom two look like GR-75 debris but the top one sure looks like a Gozanti to me? That's it, Gozanti confirmed as first scum epic ship.

Curious how these debris fields will be classified? Epic debris or just regular? Only three of them like wave 5 ships so when will we get the other three?

/Third/ Huge Ship. Half Life 3 confirmed?!

Also, how the heck has a thread about NO NEW INFO got to nine pages?!

I for one would very much appreciate a spoiler slow down. I've already decided not to read anything more about the Raider cards.

For the same reason we get just as many threads when there's no new info. People have to fill the void in their hearts with speculation and the like.

In our defense... we really expected some new info...

I think the lack of an announcement is proof that the game is dead after the Raider release. FFG have abandoned X-Wing!

Requiescat in pace

Abandon ship and all hope!

I think I'm equally happy and disappointed that there is no news. As much as I love hearing what is coming up, I would be glad for them to slow down on releases. The Raider alone is going to cost over $100CDN, so if there are no other X-Wing releases any time soon my wallet will be a little happier.

Don't hate me, but I would be OK with that! The game's awesome already, I've got all the ships I love, I'd be perfectly happy pumping my money into Armada and IA. I'm not saying I hope it happens, that would be selfish, but it wouldn't personally upset me if they didn't release any more EU ships (although I'd feel sorry for people who didn't get the ships they really love). I don't think we're really there though, obviously!

I can't put into words how much I like this

So do we have a confirmation no Wave 7/LCG stuff was announced today? Anyone that was actually there that can say so, I mean I'd expect to of heard if there was by now but I just want confirmation there wasn't.

I still think it's perfectly okay to keep up the pace - we don't have to buy every single miniature coming out - most people won't ever field things like corvettes, so not everyone will buy the Raider just like not everyone has the CR90.

We're all grown men and women, we should be capable of managing and planning how to spend our money. Especially that mostly it's still what, 13-35$ per ship (no idea, I'm estimating basing on polish prices)? And in the meta it's often just one or two models that actually make the game (Phantom for example).

$15 or $30 in the U.S., with a couple of exceptions (StarViper is $20 and Decimator is $40).

I imagine FFG will try to keep up the pace of releases but may be decreasing how far ahead they announce products. Or possibly the pace of releases is slowing temporarily because of the Pacific dock strike that recently ended (apparently there's such a backlog of ships to be unloaded that it will affect things for months in the U.S.).

But then there's my compulsion to buy everything that comes out for this game despite my limited opportunities to play it just because I think everything they put out is so awesome. By slowing down releases, they save me from myself.

Honestly, I'd seriously doubt any content is announced before the movie releases, because they are having enough trouble with spoilers and leaks as it is. They can't put themselves in a place where people are finding out info about what's in the movie from a tabletop game release. And if FFG were to drop the ball and release any info early, that probably mean instantaneous loss of license. Disney has enough money to sue them out of their contract.

We know they WILL make Episode 7 merchandise. I am nearly certain we'll hear nothing of it until after the movie in December.

I actually expect we'll hear about things earlier.

May will see the first "full" trailer of Episode VII, and that will likely spoil most of the new ships coming in that movie. And we've already got some pilot and character names released by Disney (Poe Dameron, Kylo Ren, BB-8, etc) which is all FFG needs to work the character into the game.

Disney is also planning a merchandising blitz around the movie to start in September, including a number of spoiler-y tie-in and prequel novels.

So, in short, I'd be a bit surprised if FFG didn't get to release details of their upcoming 'wave 7'-supporting releases over the course of the summer. Given the target, after all, of product releases arriving in September (and unquestionably before Black Friday in November) for the December movie release.

We're all grown men and women,...

Who are you talking to?

But, overall, you're right - I think X-Wing is fine for right now. While I'm as eager as a 5-year-old on Christmas morning to get the new stuff coming out, when I do give myself the opportunity to step back, I think they might have been a bit too eager to bring us new toys before we've gotten the most out of our old toys. I'm afraid they'll burn through the game a bit too quickly at this rate.

That said, knowing that they've got stuff for us (Wave 7 complete and Wave 8 nearly so), as well as the prospect of a Scum Huge, has me eager to know what these will be.

When I transitioned my son from a bottle first-thing every morning to having to wait an extra 3.5 minutes for yogurt he basically thought I was murdering him.

We'll get through this, gentlemen.

All fair and likely points. My point was, its still a little early for that. This would have been one of if not the first major Ep 7 product announcement in likely any medium, and that just seems highly unlikely. When Disney WANTS them to announce Ep 7 products, they will come in droves. But not a day before that.

Speak for yourself. I suppose I don't have to get Armada, or an Apple watch, or the next expansion for Zombicide either? I suppose I can just walk past the sweets in the shop without buying any can I? Stop showing off just coz you have free will, some of our strengths lie elsewhere. I, for example, am surprisingly good at Thumb Wars, for someone with small thumbs.
