While I am new to role-playing games, I have been a Star Wars fan for years. Recently, I obtained a copy of the Edge of the Empire full book as well as the GM expansion. I am planning on starting a weekly game with some friends who are also into board games, but only one of them has played a role-playing game before (D&D).
I have a couple questions while planning for our first adventure:
1. Should I use miniatures?
- I know that D&D commonly uses miniatures, however, the rules for this game seem so fast paced that using figurines would take away from the thematic appeal. I do have both Star Wars miniatures and Star Wars space battles miniatures, so I could use them if I wanted.
- Also, would a game mat be advisable even without miniatures? That way, all the players can have an idea for combat situations.
2. What are the best resources you can suggest in preparation for this first game?
- Handouts, podcasts, anything that would make the experience better for both myself and the others.
3. Do I need two sets of dice or does one work?
4. What printouts are necessary for the first game which will include character creation?
- Because this is our first time meeting, I will need to explain the rules and the players will create their characters. Does their exist rule sheets that can make this easier. Also, what character sheets do you see as important for printing out to help the players create their character?
Any tips/hints/suggestions are appreciated. Like I said, I am new to role-playing games and some help would be welcome.
Thanks
- Zach
