any new builds or loadouts for the Decimator?

By Grave13, in X-Wing

Just wondering with scum and villany out if there were any new builds to decimator lists or if antone is putting a new spin on building lists with the Decimator? I have yet to use my Decimator that I got for my birthday and want to know if there are any new hot builds for it lately?

I'm not sure there are any new cards that affect the Decimator directly, as opposed to there being some new counters to it. I did watch a game where someone swapped predator for calculation on Chiraneau. He won, but he said he likes predator WAY better on the Decimator.

The new build is leave it at home because turrets are DEAD :D

(I wish)

More seriously, wave 6 has given them nothing to work with and more to watch for. I suspect oicuun Will become much more popular with all the high agility nonsense benefitting from autothrusters. You might not hit soontir, but you can sure as **** ram him.

Also, decivader (patrol leader, Vader crew, gunner)

Turrets aren't dead but rebel turrets are pretty much dead at this point. I saw the final match at a store championship yesterday between a friend of mine running a great dash corran list, not the 58 dash but dash with lone wolf and recon against 2 aggressors with auto thrusters.

Now I don't like auto thrusters 1 bit, they are way too powerful for the low point cost imo. But I can understand the argument for having them on interceptors and a wings. They are fragile little ships and it's a way to protect your investment from being 1 shotted. But on a 8 hit 3 dice aggressor that can take an evade action every round??? That's freaking ridiculous. My friend flew his ass off and even was able to flank with dash and get behind them with them in his arc and it was will still **** near impossible to punch through unless he rolled 4 hits.

Right now the decimator with vader is the only consistent turret that can punch through auto thrusters but you're killing yourself in the process.

Well thats kinda weak...from the sounds of it its like the Decimator is all washed out after wave 5. Are there no competitive builds for the Decimator anymore? Or has it died since the release of autothrusters? If so that sucks.....I havent got the chance to even use mine yet.

we just had two posts listing the power of Vader + Gunner

Sure you "kill yourself' but I'll trade four damage for a basically dead soontir any game

plus, there's still Oicuun. Oicuun's ability completely bypasses auto-thrusters, though it won't be enough for aggressors specifically

also have it on good mention from the local IG-88 enthusiast that he doesn't like engine chiraneau. You have to play it like an arced ship (i.e, actually plan where you're going) but it does some incredible damage and is a massive pain in the ass to keep in arc between large base, boost, and moving after the aggressors

Chiry with VI, engine, gunner, and two tacticians works pretty well. Whatever you get into arc at range 2 (not so hard with PS10 and EU) gets 4 stress and dies soon after.

Turrets are not going anywhere. Just because 1 little upgrade card came out that makes their favorite food slightly tougher to chew doesn't mean they are gone.

But as for wave 5 not to many upgrade cards came out that they can use. Decimators have torpedoes, 3 crew, and a bomb slot with named ones having an EPT.

Wave 6 brought illicits Y-wing specific upgrades, new cannons, a sensor, 3 crew that are Scum only, and a modification that makes natural boost a benefit. The only thing Wave 6 had done that the decimator could have benefited from the the additional proxy mine and seismic charge from the Aggressor and for those who did not get a slave 1 package or wanted to field both decimator and firespray this was a plus as now they both can have proxy mines or seismic charges.

I was never worried about autothrusters shaking up the turret thing.... it makes no matter to me. I eas just curious if any new ideas for decimator lists developed before wave 6 came out. I havent heard much on Decimators in awhile didnt know if people are still running decimator phantom lists or if anyone are using interceptors with Decimators with the new autothruster toys?

I was at at Store Championship yesterday with ten players and not one person was flying a Decimator.

I think turrets are going to be fine, but that Gunner is more important than ever. Top 8 at our 26 player tournament yesterday and at least half were large turret lists: one Dash, one Chewie w/Horn, one Decimator/whisper, and one Chewie/Leebo.

I also think determination is a much better card on decimators now, too, not that it was bad, but with manglers out there...

I fly a Tank with a mini swarm. Kenkirk with just determination and ysanne plus 4 AP's. To increase damage output you can drop an AP for howlrunner and gunner.

YES! I have always like Kenkirk with determination and Ysanne. What better way to keep an already well armored ship to last longer I threw in two TIE Bombers for wingmen because they are well armored. Havent got to play it yet but **** it looks fun.

If his only job is to live determination is great, 25% of crits are discarded. You don't actually take the damage. Realistically it's only going to come up about once a game. But as a 1 pt hull upgrade it is fantastic.

If you have played for a while, and you look back through the waves, you'll see that each wave is a response to the previous wave. The B wing was king in Wave 3 until the Phantom released in Wave 4. The Tantive and Wave5 buffed the falcon and released more turrets. Wave 6 counters those turrets. And so it goes. A big strength of Scum is automatic damage. Maybe wave 7 will have a counter for that.

Maybe the expected fixes for bombs and ordnance in Wave 7 will also benefit the Decimator. It does have a bomb and a torpedo after all.

Turrets are counter to ACD more than phantoms themselves.

The Decimator is still cool to me. Im sure it will get cooler as more waves come out. I have noticed that all the ships eventually become better when more waves come out. Personally im going Scum by default

IMO, the decimator was always going to have a limited lifespan as a top dog competitor. It took off when it first hit and was able to prey on the meta at the time, but its counters are many and varied. It was only a matter of time until people took the counters in enough frequency to knock it down a peg or too.

It's not gone, but I'm glad to see it humbled a bit

That's probably because everyone is burned out on the Decimator for a bit. Give it some time and it will float back up to normal levels.

plus, there's still Oicuun. Oicuun's ability completely bypasses auto-thrusters, though it won't be enough for aggressors specifically

If you are in a position to trigger Oicunn's ability, 99% of the time you are in a position where Autothrusters would be useless anyway.

If the pilots was PS 4+ though, they would move away after being rammed, quite possibly out of arc.

True, but then a higher PS Decimator would be called for, my point being that if you're that confident that you can ram someone with Oicunn you should be equally as confident you'd be able to keep someone in arc. :P.

So much this.

I flew with a stress-inducing list against IG-88B and IG-88C, both identically equipped with Autothrusters (and other stuff like Gunner).

I managed to take off 3 (!!!) shields in total over the course of 60 minutes, despite me having almost always 3x 3-Red-Dice ships in good firing position, while one of his ships was almost always not able to fire due to stress removing maneuvering.

The game ended in a 0-0 draw :(
